I know that ONE or more of you wonderful mom can answer this question.........I use a lot of ink for printing and I think the prices that Staples and Office Depot charge are ridicilous! Anyone know where I can purchase Lexmark ink at a reasonable price. Doing the refill thing does not work. I think I pay $24 for black and if I need black and color it costs around $49
Any suggestions???

What can I do next?

Here's what I do... When my husband is heading to the store, I hand him a piece of paper with the ink cartridge info on it & say "Hey--we're out of ink."
He gets it. Lol
The knock off ink isn't an option, so we pay for HP ink.
What you're paying sounds about typical.
Print less maybe?
Or look into knock off ink.

I've recently made the switch from Office Depot to Staples because in our area Staples is cheaper on the HP ink that I needed.

I'm wondering if you are using this for work or personal use? If it's for personal use, there is way to disable the color cartridge if you just want to print in all black and white, especially if you are printing something off the internet, when things are in color. That might help save on your color cartridge.

I would try Costco for ink cartridge, where you can buy cartridges in packages of multiples. You should be able to get packs of all black, all color, and a combo pack.

Good luck!

I know how you feel - that's how they can see those printers so cheaply, because they make it up on the ink! And home printers are just not designed for heavy use - you may do better with a real copier or even using a quick printer. I have not been happy with our local Staples' printing department - I think they're expensive. I've done better with a local printer.

I know Staples has some kind of an ink "club" you can get into for some discounts - not sure if it's all the time or a short-term promotion, but sometimes you can combine deals and so well. Over time, we've gotten a lot of coupons and rebates back from Staples that we can use on ink and anything else.

Good luck - but be careful on the knockoffs because sometimes they cause more problems.

I do a lot of printing with our company business and I stick with the namebrand ink for my printer.

Any screwup of the printer itself by trying a knockoff isn't worth the potential issues I could have. That's how much of a priority my printer is... Payroll checks, accounts payable, invoicing, etc. I do not replace my cartridges very often.... They yield high use.

I've heard of places that refill and if I were just doing odds and ends at home and not related to business, I might try.

The price you say you pay at Staples is a "STEAL" compared to what I spend on ink, as well as many others. I don't buy it often but when I buy a full set, I pay upwards of $100 to fully replace each cartridge. I currently have an HP printer and I love it.

We recently replaced an Epson Workforce ($200 printer and appx $125 for ink). with the HP ($400 printer including replacement ink) The Epson was a very good printer for 5 yrs.

How old is your printer? Check it and make sure you have all the heads cleaned and aligned properly as well.

Good luck!!

ETA: Megan is right - for documents that DO NOT NEED to be in color - you can choose - when you go to print - the monochrome option. Prints in black and white.

Go to Amazon or ebay....if you have a Costco or Sam's Club membership you might get it cheaper there...and the prices you are paying right now? Sounds normal/typical. You can also check CVS, Wal-Mart and even Lexmark on-line....

Consider making the move to laser - yes - it's more expensive at first - however the toner doesn't dry out like ink and lasts much longer than ink as well.

Costco will refill your empty cartridge. Very cheap. They do it at the photo center.

Well, depending on whether or not you are willing to buy a refurbished name-brand and/or a "no-name" brand - I've been using InkTechnologies.com and SuppliesOutlet.com for several years. Just depends on who has the best sales going on at the time I need ink. The cartridges for my Konica-Minolta printer can run into the hundreds and I've saved a lot by buying from these two sites. I've never had any problems. Additionally, they send mailers so you can return empty cartridges to be recycled.

Good luck!!

A salesman at Office Depot told Lexmark has the most expensive ink out there. And it's just going to get more expensive because the company is going to stop making printers. So their ink will cost more and be harder to find. So I switched and got a really good deal on an HP Inkjet Pro 8600. I got a Costco membership so im buying my ink there. Im now paying much much less for ink AND I'm getting three times as much ink. I used to run out of ink every few weeks now its every few months. My advice? Get a new printer. HTH.

I was at one of the office supply stores and the cashier who is a friend of mine told me to get the laser/ink jet paper. The paper is a big factor on how much ink goes onto it. Then I shop at online for my printer ink. try LDproducts.com or others like it. It's huge savings and I get the ink overnight. Good luck!!
