Hi A.
I take out the cartridge and shake it and put in back in.
Try it ! You will get more printing time and this can be repeated until eventually it won't work.

One of my homeschoolers loves to print things and, as most of us know, you can almost buy a new printer by the time you replace the cartridges a few times.
Do any of you frugal super-star moms or dads have any suggestions on how I might save money in this area?
Thank you!
PS: I have an HP Officejet 6000.

I buy the ink and refill the cartridges-by the way-wear gloves!
Do you have a Cartridge World in your area? We have: you simply bring in your own cartridge and they will sell you a refilled one of the same type at a discounted price than brand new. We had good luck when one of our obscure cartridges ran out; even though they didn't have one to sell us, they refilled ours for a reasonable cost. Best part is we aren't throwing the cartridges right into the landfill!
I bought the XL cartridges and then have them refilled at our local grocery store. I had Walgreens do it once but my color cartridge printed funny like they put black ink on by mistake. I haven't went back there since. Shop around for the best deal. Sometimes the grocery store has deals like refills for $2.29 no matter what the size plus they typically do it within an hour.
Refill cartridges at Costco for Bout $8. They refill HP 6000 series too.
We get them refilled at Costco. It's not very expensive and you can get each one refilled several times before they won't do it any more at which point you take them over to Staples to turn them in to recycle and they give you something like a $5 gift card to use in the store or something like that. They just changed it so I might be slightly wrong on the details. It used to be you turned it in and you'd get a ream of multi-purpose white paper.
I know other places refill ink but I've never used them.
amazon.com is where I usually order ink from. Very cheap when you order refurb ones!
I take my empty cartridges to Staples and about every 3 months Staples send me a check. it is not a big check but it's $$.
We use Epson and a set of cartridges runs about $100. We do not do a ton of printing so we don't replace too often.
We go to costco and have them refill them. Under ten bucks, and they do most cartridges. Call first to make sure they do the service and they accept your type of cartridge. =)
some walgreens will refill for color $15 and black $10. call and check or look on their website because they don't do every printer, though
I bought generic ink cartrigages off of Ebay, they work great! I bought them from username "bbinktoner"
Get do-it-yourself cartridge refills, there are many companies that sell the compatible refill kits for a fraction of the cost of a new name-brand cartridge.
laser jets are very expensive, but if you do A LOT of printing, it can pay for itself in the money you save on ink. i have an HP also so i buy the ink on the HP website because they usually have a lot of good discounts. one time i got like 4 cartridges for 20 dollars and free shipping! im a college student so obviously do a lot of printing, but one cartridge has lasted more than one semester...pretty affordable to me!
