I think that I might have pink eye, I woke up this morning with goopies on my top and bottom eyelashes and my eye is all pink. It just doesn't really hurt it feels uncomfortable *burns a little* *only had goop this morning nothing since* so I am not sure if this could be pink eye or just allergies. Please advise. I have never had it as I can remember. It looks like what my son gets but again don't really know what it is supposed to feel like.
I did go to the doctor and it is pink eye. The doctor will not prescribe anything because it is viral. I bought the other the counter stuff at Walgreens and am hoping that will work. Thank you all for your advise.

Upon waiting the eyes will be progressively gritty, light sensitive and the eyes will feel nearly glued shut. Do not share bed, towels,or use contacts wash eyes with distilled warm water, wipe eye glass frames with alcohol. Wash bedding, towels anything that comes in contact with hands and eyes in hot water/bleach if whites. This condiition and any eye infection should be seen by a doctor asap. Some infections start out mild, but can do serious damage. Take care.

New to this, sorry if this is to late. Yes you have pink eye. My son just had it and the goopieness is how you know it is pink eye. Be very careful!!!! It is VERY easy to pass to others. If you touch the goop and touch someones eye they will get it. You need to go to the doc and get med's to get rid of it. I had hand sanitizer everywhere around the house so noone would get it. Good luck! :)

T, there are bacterial and viral type. Many times the only way to distinguish is to culture it and that is expensive. You might call your MD and tell him your symptoms,he may call something in for you. Keep your hands out of your eyes and use papertowels in the bathrooms at home instead of towels, that way everyone doesn't use the same towels until the infection is gone.
Good luck!

It sounds like conjunctivitis to me. It's highly contagious, so you will need to change your pillowcases everyday and wash your hands often, but don't share hand towels for washing your hands. I would use a little bleach in the wash water, too. You'll want to go to the doctor for medication because untreated it could spread and damage the cornea. With doctor treatment, if it doesn't improve in 2-3 days it may be caused by an insensitive bacteria, virus or allergy. At this point, an ophthalmologist may need to culture to determine the cause. If it is a result of allergies (allergic conjunctivitis), you can work toward removing the allergen and will lessen the reoccurance. Best of luck.

It definitely sounds like pink eye. Pink eye feels like you have sand in your eye. The sensations does not exactly hurt but it is really annoying and makes you want to close your eyes. If you call your physician they may call something in for you.

Hi T.,
There is a pink eye over the counter med that just came out. You can get it at almost every drug stroe. It is the same as the one that doctors use to prescribe. You just have to put a few drops in both eyes a few times a day for one week. Your eyes should feel better in a day but keep up the drops for as long as the box says. If it doesn't feel better in a day or so go see your doctor!

Sounds like pink eye. Call your doc. They may call in a rx w/o an appointment (or might not). You don't want to take chances with your eyes. It is also highly contagious so throw all towels, pillowcases, etc. in the wash and use paper towels or separate towels until it is resolved. Good luck!

Pink Eye leeks like that mostly during sleeping. You should call the dr. and get a prescription. I'm sure he will want to see you. Without antibiotic drops, you won't get rid of the problem and it is extremely contagious. You must use different towels, clean sheets and pillow cases. There is some itching or irritation that causes you to rub and some moderate burning feeling. Make sure that little guy doesn't touch your upper cheek or eye. Please, get to the dr. It's better to be safe than sorry. If the little one contracts pink eye, it's almost impossible to keep his hands out of it. Good luck
I think they carry it at Walgreens. Homeopathic remedies work GREAT for this and colds.

According to my doctor, who hates prescribing drops for pink eye, most cases are viral and would go away on their own. But the infections can be dangerous if you just ignore them, plus so contagious. (No school would put up with my doctor's idea that we should treat pink eye like we do colds, but that's what he says.)
My doctor would prefer for me to wait and see if a pink-eye type thing goes away, but I've always insisted on the drops because I have no patience for a return visit. But based on that, it seems like most likely if you aren't horribly uncomfortable you could wait and see for a day or so.

I get pink eye all the time. It is very contagious, but I have found soft contact saline solution (which contains boric acid) to be just as, if not more, effective than the drops the doctor gives you. Just drop two to three drops in each eye every four hours. Keep your hands clean and don't touch your eyes. I have three children ages 4,3 and almost one and they have never had pink eye yet. I honestly get it about six times a year and I have not gone to a doctor for it in about five years.

When we thought our daughter had pink eye we called the doctor's office. The nurse told us to try eye drops. If the pink goes away, it is not pink eye. If it remains pink, it is pink eye. I'd try the everyday eyedrops first.

Pink eye is highly contagious, as you probably know, so you should get it checked out. When my daughters were young (2 1/2 years old) one got pink eye - and we all ended up with it. Then I got it again in less than a month. I would wake up in the morning with one eye pretty much glued shut.

Hi T.,
Pink eye is very contagious. Dont share bath towels. There is a natural remedy my mom used on me . Boil a cammomile tea bag in water to make a strong tea, let it cool and soak a cotton ball in the solution. Use the cotton ball to wipe off the sticky infection and then take another clean soaked cotton ball and add a few drops to the eye. Its a natural eye cleanser. Do this about three times a day. In about 2 days it should be gone if not sooner. I have also seen this in a natural health book too! If it doesnt help, you may not have pink eye and should see a doctor.

Sounds like you have pink eye, I just got over it (compliments of my sons preschool I'm sure). It is highly contagious -- call your doctor and get the eye drops and wash all your bedding and towels (and throw away your mascara, eyeliner and wash any eye make up brushes so not to reinfect yourself) so no one else in your house gets it. With a 2 y.o. you will see a lot more pink eye in your house in the next few years. Most moms I know have a standing prescription at the pharmacy. Problem with pink eye is that you don't know you or your child have it until you get the goop in your eye and at that point who knows what you've touched or infected. Good thing is after the 1st dose of drops your eyes will start feeling good again.

With two kids I've been through this plenty of times. Is your eye very swollen and feels scratchy on the inside? It's probably pink eye and it's highly contagious. Practice good hand washing habits and be sure and either use something disposable (soft paper towel or tissue) when cleaning the draining or use a warm washcloth only once and put it in the laundry. If your eye isn't very swollen it could be a sinus infection that is now affecting your eye or you could have an eyelash that's a bit turned around and on the inside of your eyelid. My daughter has very long lashes and that happens rather often. I would strongly recommend you see your health practioner because pink eye or a sinus infection will need antibiotics.

Pink eye will make your eyes watery and redish or pink. It does matt your eyes if your just waking. there is burning. sometimes it is only in one eye, can be in both though. sometimes these things happen and might just be a bacteria settling in your eye/eyes. When any of it first starts that you notice, use Visine eye drops 3 times a day for a day or two and it should clear it up or keep it from getting to bad. IF after a couple of days and it worsens or doesn`t get any better, it is probably pink eye and you should get drops from your doctor. close your eyes for a least 3 minutes when using eye drops. This will also help with the itching. Sound like u got pink eye.
sincerely,
A.

Hi T.,
It sounds like it's likely pink eye and it is very contagious! I'm an R.N. and you'll need antibiotic eye drops if it is pink eye. Wash your hands any time you touch your face or eyes and make sure you change your pillow cases daily. It's very easy to reinfect yourself or your son if he gets it too. It's very hard to get rid of it with a 2 year old that doesn't understand not touchiing his eyes and therefore infects everything he touches as well. Get it checked out right away so it's easier to treat before it spreads. Good luck! J.

Yep, sounds like pink eye. I get it all the time, so I'm a little more familiar with it than I'd like to be. You can spend mega bucks visiting your doc, just for him to tell you what you already know, and he can write you a prescription. Or, if you're not adverse to a little homeopatic care, you can add 1 to 2 drops of lavendar essential oil to 6 or 8 oz. of purified water. Shake it REALLY, REALLY well before each use. Use a cotton ball (different one for each eye)soaked with the solution. Hold it over your closed eye for a few moments, and use it to wipe away the eye goobers. Repeat several times a day. Make sure to dispose of the cotton balls and wash hands thoroughly afterwards. Pink eye is very contagious. Good luck!

I got pink eye last year and I used this remedy:
Raw/organic unprocessed honey (you can get it at any Natural Food store--ie. Whole Foods)
Water
Heat 1 cup of water (do not boil...just make it hot). I would advise using Steam Distilled Water (no contaminants). Add 1 TBSP of Honey to the water, stir until completely dissolved. Allow the water to cool to lukewarm and then get a dropper and use this solution to rinse the eyes 3 times a day. After you rinse, put 3 drops of the solution in each eye. Do this several times per day.
Honey (raw, unprocessed) is a natural antibacterial/antibiotic (it's also great for cuts/scrapes in place of things like neosporin). The only side effect of this can be slightly sticky eyelashes (which you can easily take care of with a warm cloth). If your pink eye does not begin to clear by the 3rd day OR if it gets worse, then you need to go to your doctor. My pink eye was completely clear by the 3rd day, however, I kept doing this for a full week (which is recommended).
Hope that helps!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but sure sounds like you have Pink Eye. From remembering when my 2 kids had it the eye gunk & crusting only happens when you sleep. This uncomfortable feeling you have is another positive sign. Won't hurt you to put pink eye drops in your eye to see if it will help. Sure don't want to pass it on to your son or hubby for that matter & it is highly contagious. Hope you get your eye feeling & looking better soon.

Pink eye typically is very itchy and the "goop" doesn't go away. The eye is usually quite red if you pull the upper lid up and the lower lid down. Pink eye is very contagious but the treatment is quick and easy. It could be an allergy, but since pink eye is so contagious, I would check it out if it continues.

Dear T.,
Please take yourself over to either an Optometrist or Ophthalmogist to have your eye looked at. Do NOT go to an emergency or immediate care center. THey don't usually have an eye specialist on staff and there are so many bacteria (or viruses) that could be causing it. You don't want to medicate it in a way that 's going to worsen it.
