They can determine if you are premenopausal with a blood test. It is hard for us to know whether you are. PreM symptoms can start 5-10 years before Menopause. I have had some PreM symptoms, but just irregular periods....everyone is different.
I have always been very regular until the last 2 months. Last month my cycle was on time but only lasted 2 days. So far I am 5 days late, and I do not feel like it is on the way. I have been having headaches, & some cramping. I have also been a little more tired than usual. I was going to wait until I am at least a week late before I take a test. I was wondering if anyone had perimenopause symptoms that mimicked mine or will I be pleasantly surprised? BTW I am 44 years young
I took a test this morning and it was negative. Next step is making an appointment with my doctor. Thanks for all of the answers.

I was supposed to be in menopause, (ovarian failure at age 37), they told me I had no eggs left. Had terrible hot flashes and irregular cycles. FSH level indicated menopause. Well, lo and behold, 6 years later, I was surprised with baby #2! Didn't even know i was pregnant until I was already 22 weeks. He is a blessing and we believe, a true miracle. I had him this past January at age 43, and he is perfect!I I am enjoying every minute w/ him. So you may have a surprise too! I would take a pg test and if neg, I woudl go see your gyno and have them test your FSH level and thyroid.
Good Luck!
How old are you?
My aunt and uncle tried for 15 years to conceive and had given up on having a child. She was "late"... then missed a month... crampy, emotional... and at 41 assumed it was perimenopause. Eight months later my beautiful baby cousin was born! She was shocked and thrilled!
If you expected your period 5 days ago a home test would be accurate, so take one and find out! Either way you will need to schedule a doctor's appointment, so you might as well do that too!
I was TOTALLY convinced I was in perimenopause at 39. Nope, wrong as HELL. We now call our "menopause" Alexander.
I was 5.5 months before I figured I was preganant. SO much for the cold, ear infection and possible Whooping Cough I went in to get taken care of.
Wow.. Hope it's what you're hoping for. =D
I have girlfriends who are menopause and I'm in my early 30's.
Could go either way!
Best wishes!
I thought I was perimenopausal and I ended up being pregnant. I was almost 40. =D I told my hubby not to worry because it was menopause. He believed me until the morning sickness kicked in. We decided that this wasn't a premenopausal symptom...LOL Good luck to you!!
The average age for menopause these days is 51. I am 50 and have had barely any signs that it might be coming some day.
Take a test.
Hm... have a friend who is 43 who thought she was starting menopause early. She is 4 months pregnant. Surprise!!!
So, yes it is a possibility... though her period stopped completely.
I too had a brief period which only lasted 2 days and light. Nonetheless, I blew it off because I had taken a pregnancy test (don't remember if it was before or after my period) and it displayed a negative result.) I failed to get my period for the next two months before I figured out, I'm either pregnant or something is really wrong. Took another test which was around my third month, and this time it was positive. I guess I put a lot of faith in that first pregnancy test, so I would recommend you make an appointment with your GYN so there won't be any question if your pregnant. Good luck.
The dollar store sells pregnancy tests, so if you are waiting because it's a big expense... If it were me, I'd want to know one way or the other.
I would take a pregnancy test, because I was the same way, My periods were never regular though, n my period was late 2 days and i took a pg test, and it came out positive,, and I had the same symptoms you were having.
