Pelvic Pain Two Years After Delivery

Hello - After I had my second daughter I had the normal pelvic/pubic area pain. The radius of the pain became smaller and smaller as the weeks passed. I mostly noticed when I would get up after laying down. After two years it didn't completely go away like I thought it would. I now notice a sharp localized pain in that area. It feels like a bruise or like someone punched me with their elbow. I wouldn't relate it to sex. It's just that pain that never fully went away after having my daughter. Now my thoughts are running away with me thinking all kinds of things. I have an OB appointment on Wednesday. I will mention that I have a 2.5cm fibroid on the top of my uterus but I don't think that has anything to do with it. Not sure though. I can never really tell where anything is.

I will note that she dropped really early at 4 months along and I dilated and had to go on bedrest throughout the rest of my pregnancy. But I carried low that whole time.

Anyone else have this sharp localized pain months or years after giving birth?

What can I do next?

I also think it has to do with those bones seperating and not realigning correctly. I also say do physical therapy and chiropractic. Help me a ton

Yes, but mine was annoying enough that I had it checked out at about 6 months post-partum. The first thing I would suspect is SPD, Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (sp?). The PS is the joint where your pelvic bones meet in front (so your pelvis is two semi-circular bones that meet in the back at the tailbone and in the front at the PS joint). This joint separates normally during the course of pregnancy and labor but if it spreads too far, you can have problems where it's too far apart or mis-aligned. Your OB should be able to feel a separation or masalignment by doing an internal and external exam. If it is SPD, the normal course of treatment is physical therapy but if I were to do it all over again, I would have just gone straight to a chiropractor.

Mine was assumed to be mild SPD (it was my 2nd pregnancy and this big guy was wedged way low in my pelvis for months) so I did PT with no relief. I later was referred to an orthopedist, who did and X-ray and could see that the bones were actually inflamed (osteitis pubis) so I was put on an anti-inflammatory course of ibuprofen (basically 800 mg of motrin 3x a day) for 30 days and that cured me.

Hope that helps and that you get relief soon!

Where is your pain located down there? It could be that your tailbone got strained during the labor which pulls on pelvic floor. This is a common injury during labor. It happend to me when my daughter was born 2 years ago and never fully went away until I had my tailbone adjusted internally. I am a chiropractor in MN and am planning to specialize in tailbone injuries. If you have any questions on this, feel free to contact me at ____@____.com

If the OB doesn't turn anything up consider a trying chiropractor. I had pelvic pain before and after birth due to things being out of alignment.
