I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow, and the last couple of weeks I've been having pressure again my pubic bone. Today it has gotten really really bad, so bad I can hardly even get up, and when I do I'm right down to my knees. Also having lower back pain... its tolerable, just ur normal pregnancy back pain. Anyone else had pains this bad against their pubic bone? Should I be worried?

What can I do next?

I had the exact type pain when I was pregnant with my son. I was miserable the last month. I was carrying him low and he was a large baby (I am petite). I tried several different pregnancy girdles that supported my lower abdomen and that gave me some relief. When my 9lb 3oz baby was born, the pain was gone!

call your doctor and relay your symptoms. You might be able to go to the labor and delivery hospital you are going to deliver and get checked out. You could also call there (labor & delivery) in the middle of the night and see if they think you should come in.

i don't know if you should be worried, but you should seek medical attention since your pain is so bad.

Yes , I just had a baby six months ago and I had pelvic stiffness ever time I moved or walked my pelvic bone popped I barely could walk and my baby only weighed 6lbs and 14oz but everytime I had a ultrasound he was head down even when I was 12 weeks he was head down I think that had something to do with it. You might want to ask your doc what position he's in.anymore questions let me know

Hi Steph, I had the same pains against my pubic bone. My midwife called it the hormone "relaxin" setting in. Those muscles start to relax before birth. She was able to examine me and feel the exact spot. She suggested Arnica which is natural pain relief med. I got it at Cupboard food in Denton. You can take it in pill form or there is a cream. Some days were better or more manageable than others. Hang in there...my baby was due on Friday..he is now 3 days late :)

Hey S.,
Does it feel like a bowling ball is sitting right "down there"? and about to drop out? I have had that pain with my 2nd and now 3rd pregnancy. It hurts really bad! I have noticed the best thing for me is to just lay down. I comes and goes, and I notice it most when I have been up a while and having to hold a child. I have asked my dr. many times if it is okay, and he always says it is perfectly normal. I hope everything goes well. You might still call your dr. this morning for piece of mind. Good luck with your baby!!!

I had this with all four of my pregnancies. I finally found something that truly helped me the last pregnancy. I was refered to a chiropractor that specialized in pregant women named Chandra Crisp. I felt so much better. She has a true heart for elevating the extra pains that don't have to be there in pregancies. Let me know if you want to use her and can't find her number. I'll have to look it up. Of course talk to your doctor for your particular situation. I hope that you can be helped this way.

It sounds like your little one is putting pressure on your back, probably dropping some, this is what back labor feels like (I always described it as a knife stabbing me in the back, well that is how I would think a knife would feel). I only had it when I was "in labor", I felt like it was worse than the contractions. I would call your doctor and see what she/he says.
God Bless you and your little one!

Hi S.,
Is this your first pregnancy? I was in preterm labor with my first pregnancy and had no idea!! You should absolutely call your Dr. tomorrow, but if the pain becomes worse, I would go to the hospital tonight. I don't know where you are going to deliver, but I know at Harris downtown they have a Maternal Observation unit. Is the pain constant or at intervals?? You may be in labor. If you are having pains (like five minutes apart) you should go to the hospital. I hope it is just growing pains!! Best of luck!!

That is perfectly normal! It is a good sign of everything relaxign , softening and spreading to make room for baby to come down. Of course, call your doctor if you are concerned but I bet it is just your body preparing. I had it really bad and I thought my pubic bone was going to snap in half. It was a lot of pressure and almost a burning. it was worse at night when I slept on my side because that increased the pressure. Something I would strongly recommend is seeing a chiropractor that specializes in the Webster method. They are trained to work on pregnant women and know specifically how everything relates to pregnancy and labor. Seeing one will not only help with the pubic bone and lower back pain but it will greatly impact your labor and delivery. It can help the baby get into ideal position and shorthen your labor. I have several friends and aquaintinces who have experience with this. I myself ahd to have one come out during my labor (at a birth center) and adjust me several times throught out the labor to help establish strong contractions and bring the baby down. It also helped with my bad back labor. Please contact me if you would like further information. I have the names and numbers of at least 3 who specialize in Webster technique.

Dear S.,
I will tell you what I would tell my daughter if she were to feel really really bad, as you say you feel today. GO to your doctor and have him tell you that this is just normal pregnancy back pain. What is normal for some pregnant women, it not for others. Please go to your doctor today.
Best wishes.

Pain in the pubic area can be normal due to the stretching of the ligaments. But you should never take a chance!!! Call your doctor immediately or get to a hospital. My daughter was born at 26 weeks and was in the Neo-Natal ICU for 4 months. Even at the hospital they were telling me that I was NOT having contractions and that I was NOT in any form of labor!! The monitors were showing everything as normal!!! She was nearly born into the toilet at the hospital!! NEVER TAKE A CHANCE!!! Remember always that you are the one who is the ONLY advocate for your child.

Please call your doctor. I had similar pains in my pregnancy and was going into preterm labor. The good news is that they were able to stop it with medication and gave me meds to strengthen the baby's lungs. I went on bed rest and went to full term. Take care.

while i wouldn't be "worried" per se, if i were you, i would go have it checked out.
my ob told me the pressure i was feeling was normal (and that the contractions i was experiencing were braxton hicks. a first-time mommy, my concerns were dismissed as being naive and paranoid. a week later my son was born after premature rupture of membrane (prom) with no known reason other than he was really low.
that pressure and pain you're feeling might indeed be an indication for extra caution and concern, at least for a week or so -- just making it to 32 weeks can make a *huge* difference in how your baby does if he is born early.
no mean to alarm you -- just urging you to tap that mommy instinct & listen to it!

I did--it was horrible. Couldn't sleep. A friend of mine told me about a a physician trained to work on pregnant women. Similar to manipulation done by chiropracters, but under a more controlled circumstance. He trained while his wife was pregnant because he wanted to help her find relief for her pain. Dr. Niraj Mehta, ###-###-####. He's in Fort Worth next to Plaza Medical Center.

I got immediate relief. I can't tell you how much pain I was in--but he really helped me out. I HIGHLY recommend him. You will be glad you went.

Although I can't really tell you if your pain is normal or not, since everyone's pain tolerance is different, I can say that with my third pregnancy, I experienced really bad pelvic pain in my last month or so. There were times that I just had to sit on the couch, leaning back with my legs bent up on the couch(kinda like when you're in the doctor's office with your feet in stirrups). I remember one time my husband saying "Do you really have to sit like that?" :-) I can laugh now, but I will tell you it wasn't so funny at the time. I also experienced not so much back pain, but tail-bone pain, as well as a lot of Braxton Hicks. I don't know if this is your first pregnancy or not but I remember my doctor explained to me that, with each pregnancy, all of this increases, because your body has learned from previous pregnancies to prepare earlier for delivery. All this being said, you're most likely fine and normal, but I would still call the doctor and let him/her know what you are experiencing, and remember, it will all be over soon and you'll have your new precious angel to show for it! Good luck and blessings to you and your growing family!

Probably not something to worry about. You can go see your chiropractor and they will show you some EASY stretches to get rid of both pains plus it will make delivery later on so much easier!

To say not to worry would be silly! Pain hurts and you do worry! You need to just go the the Dr. or Hospital! FYI, I delivered at 32 weeks, and my child is perfect! Somestimes, they are just ready to come into the world!

Hi S.,
Sorry to hear you're in pain! Not sure if this is the same, but the last month or so that I was pregnant with my daughter, I had a lot of pressure and pain in my groin area. It was just from the weight of the baby dropping. The doctor said that it was just round ligament pain and to keep off my feet whenever possible. Said it was totally normal and would subside after I had the baby (and it did!). It never brought me to my knees, but it was definitely uncomfortable.

I think it just indicates that the end is near. Best wishes for a happy remainder of your pregnancy and a smooth, pain-free delivery! :)

Hi,
I had some minor pains due to tightens/stretched muscles in the pelvic area during pregnancy.
Make and appt with Patricia at the Muscle Therapy Clinic for a massage/stretching session. She is really good and took care of the pain from the stretched/ tight muscles.
Muscle Therapy Clinic is at Coit and Park, NE corner, in Plano.

Towards the end of my pregnancy, I went every two weeks. She does take insurance, so you may want to ask the front desk and bring your insurance card.

Hi S.

I had (and still do have) pain like that. Feels like a knife shearing through the pubic bone, and can spike very suddenly, on top of the dull pain that is always there. Or another description: I feel like I am the wishbone in a turkey and that someone is holding on to my legs to rip me apart, and the pain centers in the pubic bone itself. For me it started in week 17, but got really dramatic in week 36. My diagnosis was Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction. For me, it also caused severe lower back pain, right at the joint where the spine and pelvis meet, in addition to the pubic symphsis. It is caused by the hormones loosening the ligaments in the pelvis (which is normal), but for some women it causes severe pain. I have known several women who ended up on crutches because it was so difficult to walk.

I delivered 4.5 months ago and still have severe pain in the pubic bone, so I had an MRI and x-rays done two weeks ago. Another diagnosis, which is not common on pregnant women, was found: Osteitis pubis. I am now taking physical therapy in a heated swimming pool, which will help for both conditions.

In my experience, the SPD is not very common in the U.S. (I live in Norway and it is very common her; nobody knows why) so your doctor may never have heard of it. It most often disappears within two weeks of birth, but some women are plagued with it longer. (This was my third pregnancy and first time to have it.) And the Osteitis pubis, well, I had never heard of that myself, but have read up on it and found out is most common in Australian football players and is an injury that happens over time. I have no idea when I will be able to walk normally again.

To me, your pain does not sound like labor pain since you specifically mention pain in the pubic bone, but it is always best to get checked out to rule out labor. I have also had preterm labor in week 26, and that felt more like the most horrible menstrual cramps ever, with the pain focalised just over the pubic bone (about 1 inch over it). Got hospitalised for that until it was under control.

Hope you feel better soon and that you deliver a healthy baby in 9 weeks. :-)

S.

She treats alot of pregnant moms and is skilled in the Webster technique. Her website is www.handsforhealthchiropractic.com

Also, I would go ahead and call your OB just so you can have peace of mind.
