Hi Momms,
My cuttie pie is 15 months and he is weighing just average (22lb) I am a bit concerned about his growth, One of my friend is strongly recomendeding for Pedisure liquids, Can u tell me is that safe and good for 15 month old child and how much we need to give them if yes?
.
our pediatricians for years told me to put my kids on pediasure. unsure as to what it was i went and got a case of them. i tried giving it to one of my kids who would not go for it. then i looked at ingredients and it was full with sugar. never tried giving it again.
my kids were small framed for the longest time and now they're taller than most kids their age. they're still skinny but we all are so it's genetic. i wouldn't go for it. feed your son healthy foods, a variety of them and he will eat what he needs and wants.
good luck
Why are you concerned because he is average? There isn't a benefit to being above average, the goal is not to be 100th percentile. If your child is not underweight or malnourished, he does not need a dietary supplement. Perhaps you should speak with your child's doctor to get a better understanding of what it means to be of average growth. Your baby is normal.
Hi P.---If your baby is well, doesn't get sick a lot, active and otherwise a seemingly normal, healthy baby, I wouldn't worry. Be sure to offer optimally healthy foods, mostly fruits, veggies, whole grains, nuts and seeds to ensure optimal growth. Your baby will grow the way his/her genes direct.
Pediasure is mostly sugar water, with some isolated vitamins and minerals thrown in. It is not a healthy food. Actually, too many fortified foods in our diets can throw vitamin and minerals out of balance in the body, and cause more problems than we'd have without them. We do not have a mineral and vitamin deficiency in our country, we have a whole food deficiency.
Keep offering healthy foods. He will be find as long as you do that. Good luck, be well. D.
That weight sounds healthy. My son just turned 3 and weighs 24 lbs!!! I do not see a need for Pediasure. Just keep doing what you are doing. He sounds perfectly fine.
Hello,
I have a three year old and a two year old. My three year old has been a picky eater, and when she was a little over a year old, she was a bit on the puny side. Her doctor recomended pedisure as a snack, once a day. It seemed to work, she is now a healthy happy three year old. My two year old got sick just before his first birthday, put him on pedisure and it helped get him back to his normal weight. So I recomend it, but if you are unsure do what I did, ask his pediatrician.
If your son is on his curve with a constant weight then I wouldn't worry about what he weighs. My daughter was only 18 lbs at 1 yr old but her Ped wasn't concerned because I was tall and thin and so was my mother and she was always on her curve. She still is now almost 72 lbs at 10yrs old and is 5'4!
My son was 20 lbs at 9 months old and now at 4yrs is only 37lbs!!
As long as your son is eating a healthy diet and his milestones are on track, I really wouldn't waste the money on pedisure. It is full of sugar and other things your son probably doesn't need at such a young age. Just push the whole milk!
Good luck!

Is your pediatrician concerned? He sounds like a normal 15 month old.
If he is eating and drinking well, he really does not need anything to
supplement him.
Pediasure is only needed if your little one isn't drinking or absorbing fluids- like if they had vomiting or diarrhea.
Otherwise, PLEASE don't let another mom compare your little guy to other babies his age. All children grow at different rates and at different times. It could be that in four months your child will have had a huge growth spurt.
At 15 months 22 pounds sounds very normal, and as long as he is eating a healthy diet (protein, veggies/fruit, calcium etc) and getting a vitamin supplement, he sounds perfect!
If she'll drink it, Pediasure is fine, but the bigger issue is does she eat? Does she have potty issues (not going or going a lot)? If you think she is eating and pottying normally, then your probably ok. She just might be a small kid.
What is her ethnicinty? It plays a factor. My son is a quarter Asian and always measured off the charts after 6 months. We went to a specialist who after numberous tests and minimal weight gain asked me,
Dr: "How much does your mom weigh?"
Me: "89 lbs soaking wet I think."
Dr. "When did you break 100 lbs?"
Me: "um... 15, I think"
So the Doc said that its very likely that his ethnicinty may play a role, and the may have inherited a really high rate of metabolism. The Doc went on to say, as long a baby seems like their eating, and pottying normally, and not normally irritable, then their probably ok. She just reccommended that he take a daily dose of vitamin. My son just turned two and is arround 24 lbs, but is happy, healthy, and energetic. Hope this helps!
What does your pediatrician say? My 19 month old only weighs 24lbs. His height is 32". He falls on 40th %ile for height but only about 10th for weight. My pediatrician is very happy where my son is. He was only 4.9lbs at birth and 17 inches. I would discuss with your pediatrician first. Extra food or liquid isn't necesssarily bad for your child, but don't panic yet until you discuss it with your doctor. I know I feel good about my son's weight and height because how little he started and he eats constantly! He also moves constantly.
I'm reading a book right now titled, "The End of Overeating." It talks about, among other things, how we as a society (and individuals) have become so used to consuming large amounts of fat, sugar, salt, and processed foods. In one study mentioned, rats were given Pediasure, and after that, they became accustomed to the sweet taste, and wanted more and more. After reading that, I decided I will NOT give Pediasure to my son! I was considering it, but as another mom mentioned, it is not a natural food, and it is high in sugar. I agree that you should offer a range of foods, and your child will get what is needed. My daughter is also 15 months, and is starting to get a little picky, but I went through that with my son, so I know she'll survive too! Good luck.
He is just fine !! Do not give him ANYTHING. If he is developing fine, he is fine. Did your pediatrician say to you there is something wrong ? If not he is really doing OK.
Lets not get pediasure mixed up with pedialyte
Is there a reason you are worried about his growth? Is he developing normally? Does he eat foods from each food group? If so, don't bother with the Pediasure! My daughter was born average size, but was always tiny and still is. She was only 20l lbs. at her 2 year apt.!!! She eats a variety of foods and was always developing normally so there was nothing to worry about! I am sure he is fine!
