Peas and Gas

My 6 month old son has been passing gas for days now. All day and all night long. So much so that he has woken me up at night the past few days. I introduced peas to him this week. I am wondering if peas are considered a gassy food. Sounds silly, but I don't eat peas myself, so I have no idea!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for the ideas and advise. I stopped feeding him peas, but it seems that the gas has not stopped! I am trying to narrow down the causes and think it could either be something I am eating,(he is breastfed still), the rice cereal, or the small amount of formula I use to mix the rice cereal. Hopefully we will be sleeping through the night again soon.

It could be the rice cereal. My son has really bad gas all the time but if i give him rice cereal he screams from the gas. My 8 month old lives on mylicon drops. He has gas no matter what i feed him or what i eat! So good luck. I know how you feel

J.,
Peas are a very gasy for a baby. I would stay away from them for now. They can cause the baby to have pain in its stomach from the gas. Green beans are better source of fiber for the baby. Maybe you can do a google search to find out what foods are gasy for infants. I also know that barley is another one that can cause gas in babies. I am a 47 year old woman who has raised my babies and have only have a 15 year old son left at home. I am now onto helping with my grandchildren. Good Luck with your little one.

Hey!!! I just started my daughter on veggies 2 days ago. Yes, peas are very gassy. Green veggies are gassy in general. I was told to start with the orange ones..carrots, squash, sweet potatoes.

Good luck!!

My son is 6 months old, I wish it was peas that gave him gas. At first we gave him Mylicon drops like 2 times a day, when he was like a month old. All kids respond to different foods differently. I think my son gets his gas from his father, because between the two of them they can blow me out of a room when hes there. If you notice too the diapers will smell differnt too, with different colors. My suggestion is get the Mylicon drops. Hint: Cheepest place is Babies R Us, believe me we had gone threw atleast 4 bottles of it already - yes dr told me to get it.

Give him babies magic tea to soothe him from gas and other tummy troubles. It's a herbal tea formula that has no preservatives and sugar at all.

Good question! I think some veggies especially green ones can give us and children gas. Try giving him some gripe water after his meals to ease his gas. I still nurse my son and he is 5 months. I have to watch what I eat, like broccoli (which) I love and onions beans collard greens etc.
Try the gripe water, it waroks for my son. You can give it to him by a dropper or put it in some water.
You should be able to find it in any pharmacy or ethnic grocery stores carry it as well.

Hi neighbor...(I live in LaGrange)

I honestly don't know if peas is considered gassy but you never know, it very well could be. The only sure way of finding out is to stop feeding him the peas and see if he stops passing so much gas. (My daughter is almost 7 months) eats peas...[she LOVES peas] and it didn't seem to affect her the way it's affecting your son...) So I just don't know..all babies are different....GOOD LUCK! :)

peas are a starch.... same as corn... they could not agree with him. If he's having that much gas, I would probably stop them and talk to your doctor about it. Little Tummys makes a good gas relief....

Dear J.,

I think vegetables in general tend to give babies gas. I wouldn't be too worried unless your son seems to be in pain while passing the gas. Hope this helps!
