Hi everyone.
My husband and I are looking to add a patio to our backyard. We have no idea where to start looking for a contractor. Do any of you have any recommendation for a patio contractor? I think we are going to do stamped concrete. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
K.

What can I do next?

Have you tried the website angieslist.com? It is a referral and feedback site for contractors of all kinds. At the very least it will let you check out a contractors reputation. I would also suggest meeting several concrete people and getting AT LEAST 3 quotes. More expensive doesn't mean better and cheap doesn't mean bad. Definitely ask to see previous work. If they can give you actual addresses, even better. We recently had a deck built and a patio laid and stoned and my husband did all those things and still had to watch them to make sure they met the standard we expected. I wish I had the concrete guys name for you, but my hubby is out of town and doesn't know where he put it... If I find it I will come back and post it. He did a great job. HTH

Hi K.,

Be careful of contractors - 60% of the cost of your job is contractor overhead. That's a LOT!

My husband is a master carpenter who does every bit of the job himself. He is unusual in that he does NOT use subcontractors, so you don't have to worry about subs not showing up or not doing their jobs in a manner that is compatible with everything else you're doing.

Exceptional quality is my husband's trademark and his pride.

Contact me off list and I can send you a brochure and give you his contact info.

Alanes advice is good and the other thing to do is NOT pay in advance. If they are a reputable company, they should be able to complete the work and then receive payment. I would also try to see the work they have done in person and not via pictures. We had stamped concrete done by a guy in the neighborhood that does it for a living and we ended up tearing it out and having it redone because it was so bad. Also, don't do it on a hot day as the concrete drys to quickly and the stamping comes out bad. Make sure you know what a good job looks like and that they finish the sides (like frosting a cake on the sides) and not leave it to look unfinished. Good luck!

We used Gutierrez Concreation. We have a large patio and they did a fantastic job in 2 days. that included all the work of packing the dirt for the concrete to be on so it doesn't sink.

They are located in Longmont.

Hi K.,
Yes, I know an excellent contractor- He has finished my brother and sister-in-law's basement (1000sq ft), done an antire remodel on Elmwood Baptist Church in Brighton (work's for non-profits) and so many other jobs all over town.

I've known him through a business relationship for over two years now and every job he has been referred has turned out excellent with the clients loving the price and results. I would recommend talking to him.

His name is Jason Telitz. He owns Dreams Construction and he is a full service contractor so he can do it all!!
He is a Christian, don't know if that matters to you, and is just an all around kind person.

He will give you a free estimate plus names and numbers of references if you want to check his work.

P.S. I will call him and let him know you may contact him as well.
