Patios and Concrete Work

We are looking for a company to put in a patio and POSSIBLY redo our driveway- if the cost is not too high. Does anyone have the stamped concrete, and could you share your opinion? I have heard it is much less maintenance than pavers, and it lasts longer but looks just as nice. I would also love to have recommendations for companies rather than randomly picking out of the yellow pages. I've called for one estimate so far, and they never showed up! We live in Woodridge. Thanks so much!

Try Mark Tobias at ###-###-#### His company is in Glen Ellyn. I've known him personally for a long time and he does good work. The company name is Professional Paving & Concrete Company, Inc. I don't know if he does the "stamping" but I'd assume so. He's very honest. Tell him "Ron's Mom, K." recommended him.

Hi W.--we had a stamped concrete patio installed right after we closed on our new home 2 1/2 yrs. ago. We really were happy with the process and the company we used. We called around for estimates first 9we knew how large of an are awe wanted to cover). Most companies will have a flat fee for price per square foot. We got estimates as high as $12 per sq. ft. and as low as $8.

The company we used was Emmanuel Concrete Construction and their # is ###-###-#### (cell) and the other phone # is ###-###-#### and the email is ____@____.com

They were very reasonable and did a huge patio in under 2 days. We also had them do 1/2 round steps outside the doors that lead to the patio. Also, we had the concrete colored a tan/grey color.

Good luck!

Well, my expert opinion is that you should order a pizza, but add a salad for those healty ones out there. then forget about your driveway worries and drown your sorrows in orange juice and mineral water. maybe then the people will show up to your house, when your a little less edgy. Then have a lovely night out on the town, be young again, or younger if you're already young. love life. peace my sister! may mother earth be kind to you and your family or future family if you don't have one yet. Finally, remember to thank the trees for the oxygen they provide.

Dear W.,

I can't recommend a company, but we do have a stamped concrete patio. I was not the original purchaser -- it came with our house. I always assumed that the previous homeowner put it in because it was the cheap alternative to pavers. Or, to be fair, maybe because they wanted to do a relatively small area, in a circular shape, and maybe pavers were to hard to make in a rounded pattern. To be honest, if you were visiting us for one time, and were busy doing other things, you might think that it is brick because it is stamped with a brick pattern and stained a reddish brick color. But, most people would know, right away. Plus, with the concrete option, I believe that you will have to paint/stain the concrete if you want it to look less like concrete and more like brick or pavers. I've heard that it can be hard getting a color that you are happy with when picking the stain. If I could do it from scratch, I would go with pavers in an instant. It is a classy, timeless look which is sure to add value to your house. Our stamped brick business is just odd. Good luck with your project!

Hi W.,
We had a stamped concrete patio done in 2004 and we absolutely LOVE it. We have received so many compliments on how great it looks. Our patio is 15 ft x 24 ft and we had it done in the Ashlar Slate pattern (random squares and rectangles large and small pattern). We also had it stained so it has more of a brick/paver look to it. I believe we went to a place in Aurora to see samples of patterns and colors which really helped. The name of the company is K&M Concrete ###-###-#### (I pulled up the old paperwork so hopefully this is still the #). and the man we dealt with was Kent Williams. We had no problems at all and we have recommended this company to others. A
s far as cost our patio was around $4,300.00. For the size of the patio this was a very competitive price in comparison to paver bricks etc.
Good luck to you and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have further questions. I hope this info. helped you. Also, depending on where you live you are more than welcome to come by and look at our patio. Sometimes it's nice to look at a large sample.
Have a great day!
J.

Hi W. - I live in Wheaton, and my nextdoor neighbor, Mike Getz ###-###-####), owns Getz & Allen Construction. He and his business partner do all kinds of concrete work, including stamped concrete. Mike and his wife put in a stamped concrete front walk last Fall, and it looks fabulous. He also replaced my old concrete patio with a new one last Spring and did a great job. Not only is his work good, but you won't meet a nicer guy. I grew up with his kids (I knew them from church), and, since moving into this house, he and his wife have become like second parents to me. If Mike says he will do something or show up somewhere, his word is gold. I read him your posting, and he would love to do this work for you or even be happy to talk to you if you just want advice/information.

Good luck,
L.

We did our patio in stamped concrete last Summer and used Drendel Concrete out of Naperville. My parents are both Real Estate Brokers and say they've never seen a better job in any house in the area.

We looked into pavers for our driveway and the cost was outrageous. Huge cost which added very little resale value to the home, and we realized we would never recoup the cost. Stamped concrete gives the same or similar look at a fraction of the cost, however can still be a pain when it comes to shoveling snow. Pavers however are much worse with regards to snow removal. We do have a stamped concrete patio which I love and looks great, however it is in the backyard and we dont bother with the snow.
