I am planning my daughter's 4th birthday party and we're going w/ the princess/royal celebration theme. I have the favors and other supplies but am trying to decide on what food or snacks to have. I don't want to go overboard but would like to do something cute or themed. The party is from 2 - 4 pm so a meal is not required. Any ideas ladies?

Great ideas, please keep them coming.

Invitations are already sent (make them myself every year), supplies purchased. We have a picture of her in her mermaid costume w/ a tiara on (Ariel is her favorite) placed on the front. They will be decorating their own tiaras/crown and their own goblets with sequins, girls can make their own wand and the boys their own shields. We also have "pin the lips on the frog/kiss the frog" game. Also some cute decorations.

Just down to the food items. The only thing about the sandwiches is I feel like there is a lot of waste when you use the cookier cutters for shapes.

So What Happened?

I had a few ideas but was really trying to keep things simple and keep the costs down. I ended up asking my daughter what she wanted...she said cake, icecream, cookies and cupcakes. I nixed the cupcakes because we were having cake and asked her is she wanted "little hotdogs". She said yes. The pary was @ 2 PM so no lunch or dinner was required so we had little "pigs in a blanket" and cookies and later cake and icecream....along w/ pink lemonade. Thanks for the help ladies.

Perhaps you can make it a princess tea. You can serve juice in teacups (even plastic ones) and have little sandwiches and cake. 2-4 is exactly tea time in countries that serve tea.

I like the ideas of the tea party, maybe use cookie cutters to make sandwiches and cookies in the shapes of castles, crowns, etc. Sounds like a great party for your little princess!

Fancy mini-sandwiches, fruit kebabs, pink lemonade, chocolate fountain? Silver foil trays and hot glue "jewels" to them?

We had a royal tea (so the boys could come), We made fruit cups in goblets and had pink lemonade. Made Pretzel Wands (dip the end in white chocolate and roll in jimmies), unicorn horns (crescent rolls filled with ham and cheese)...and of course, little sandwiches shaped as stars and hearts.

We also got crowns from Oriental Trading Co that have peal-off stickies in patterns on the crowns. They had multiple colors of sand that you put on the crowns to color them, and played pin the crown on the princess.

we had a fancy nancy party for my 4 yr old dd last year so we made "fancy" food - fyi check with your 4 yr old as your definition of fancy and her definition of fancy may be different :)

we did sugar grapes, chocolate covered strawberries, mini quiches, cheese and crackers (with the cheese cut into shapes with cookie cutters), sut up veggies and fruit (again used the cookie cutters to make shapes), and dd also wanted pigs in a blanket (told her the definitions may be different!) - that and the cake and ice cream seemed to be enough for our crowd :)

Love the ideas, but just wanted to add, you could make custom Stamped invites with the princess these on them. Check out Micheals or JoAnn Crafts for princess and/or castle themed stamp to create them. Also the girls could make their own stamped designs using the stamps you get. Make sure you have the washable ink. Be sure to write on the invite Wear your princess attire if you have it.

Well, you're already doing a lot of crafts, but kids really get a kick out of a 'decorate your own cupcake' setup - sprinkles, squirtcan colored frostings, etc.

In addition to sweets, I'm always a fan of healthy kid nibbles - cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumber slices, carrot sticks, etc.

While you sound like you're doing a great job and having fun, don't stress that every single thing has to be 'theme' - sometimes it's enough that it's tasty, healthy, fun and easy to eat!

Good luck!
