Hi Mom's
Do I have to make goody bags for the kids who can't make it to my daughters birthday party to give to them at a later date?
Or can I just not make them one? I just don't know if per party etiquette if i have to make them.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi Mom's Thanks.
Looks like my hubby was right (who would have thought). I am going to make extra bags for those who can't attend but said they still wanted to give a gift. I too HATE getting goody bags but kids expect them so I felt I had to give them. I did not put any food of any kind in their, I only put little Halloween trinkets and bubbles. Thanks for the input. Throwing party's is hard and worrying about if your following the right protocol can be hard.

I don't think that its necessary to make them a bag. It's just my opinion. I think that if you are going to do goody bags at the party then it should be part of actually going to the party.

I don't see why you should make them one.. I only do something like that for someone VERY SPECIAL who couldn't attend the function.. otherwise, no attendance.... no goody bag..

I agree with a previous poster - make a few extra goody bags. Give them only to kids who don't attend but who do give a present. We had a few who knew they couldn't attend ahead of time but gave a gift. And we had two who planned on attending but couldn't at the last minute (illness, and mom in labor!) but who purchased presents and gave them just after. I think it's a nice gesture; it's usually not the child's fault that they can't attend.

Hi tovah-

I know back in the day when my kids had B day parties...I would try to incorporate some craft with the party theme that they could 'do' as part of the party...and take with.

For example...one 'castle' themed party, I had them make a 'code of arms' as well as crowns...Had made a 'castle' out of cut up appliance boxes...and took some cute pics of each child to take home as well...did games like 'pin the tail on the dragon' etc...

Kids still speak of that particular party years later!

Have Fun!!

Ocassionally a child who can't make it will give you a gift at a later date. In this case, when possible, they should get a goody bag. For the other ones who simply can't attend, sorry no goody bag.

P.S. - I HATE goody bags. I wish my kids would have never gotten them.

No you do not have to make them or give them if people do not attend.

When I did them I always made a few extra in case surprise people show up.. I always had way too many and end up going more than on to some kids that had brothers and sisters.

The thing right now is to NOT give out goodie bags any more.. like when we were growing up..

I am old school...goody bags are not a necessary item for a birthday party. Also, if someone can't come...oh well, they missed it.
