Hi All,
So my boys (both will be 10 & 8 in October) are addicted to the TV show 'American Ninja Warrior'!!!
If you haven't seen it, it's a great show!!! People compete to finish VERY difficult obstacle courses. Nothing inappropriate in ANY way!

Anyway, they've realized the guys who do the best are Rock climbers & Parkour guys!
We've just recently, last month, moved from the West Coast to Long Island, NY & they have both requested to take some Parkour lessons.
Have any if you put your kids in some Parkour Training classes?? I was thinking this, along w/their normal sports, would help make some friends & build some confidence...as well as be an excellent source of exercise! They've both had a couple years each of Gymnastics when they were 3-5 years old, so I'm comfortable with them trying it.

Just was hoping to hear from others who might have kids/friends/family or husbands even that are into this.
Thoughts?

As always any and all opinions appreciated!
Please & Thank You!

So What Happened?

IsntThisFun, that's right! That's it exactly!! Teaches you how your body works & it's all about using any and all of your surroundings to get from point A to point B while touching the ground as little as possible! Hahaha!
It's *such* a BOY thing (and some girls ;)!!!

I've seen that show and thought it was pretty cool, too.

My kids are 13 and 12 and I think they would like classes like that too but I have never heard of anything like that around here.

Sounds very fun-definitely let them try.

I don't know. I know my teen son has used the term a few times and said what it was but I guess I didn't realize it was an actual thing (sport).
Who knew?
My brother and I were playing Parkhour 35 years ago, when we were jumping from bed to bed to get across the room without touching the floor. HA!

Except back then, our imaginations called it, "Don't fall into the water or the alligator gets you". LOL And we did it in the family room too... we could only play when we were home as latch-key kids, because my mother would've had a fit that we were "jumping" on the furniture! ;)

Congrats on moving to Long Island! That's where I grew up and I miss it. Now I'm stuck in LA!

That being said... my son is also obsessed with Parkour. He does some Parkour training in his Karate class. He takes Hapkido.

Hope this helps.

I know nothing about this, but I just want to say that if they can do all this stuff, more power to 'em! It sounds like crossfit type of training. Unless the folks doing it think that kids are small adults (they aren't - their bodies are still growing - growth plates, that kind of thing), then I don't see a reason for you not to do it!

Our kids love Prince of Persia. They want to do it too but no one around here offers it. I'd say go for it. If they don't like it nothing lost but if they do...wow, what a cool skill to have!

Oh my gosh! I didn't know they taught classes!
My almost 10 year old would go crazy if he could take classes. He is the bounciest I have ever seen. He puts Tigger to shame! He tries to do some of it on his own, something I'm not crazy about honestly.
I might consider seeing if there are any classes close to us.

One of my boys was a guest at a parkour class that his friend goes to (they are both 9) and he loved it! The gym that offers this is out of our budget and is too far away from us, but if it were closer and affordable, we would definitely have him do it.
