Paranormal Activity Question

Back in June of 2010 we had some strange things happening in our apartment. My young daughter came running out of her room saying a ghost came through her wall and went into the hallway. We had other experiences like the sound of things falling and everything was in tact, breathing through baby monitor, a dragon light lighting up with no batteries, my daughter asking me if I see the man standing by the dryer, and lots of other little things. It was pretty quiet for a long time. The last 2 nights I have been awoken by doors slamming. I get up and look and everything is fine. I thought maybe one of the kids got up, but when i look they are both sound asleep. Tonight when i heard the door slam, the cat raced down the stairs and looked like he was scared to death. We are currently in the process of moving. Do you think that we are making this person angry cause we are leaving? We have been here for 13 years and inherited a house. I was just wondering if any one had any thoughts or experiences like this. Thank you

What can I do next?

You live in an apartment.
I hear my neighbor's door slam, I have picked up things with my baby monitor from their apartments, I have heard their laundry run, their showers, their toilets flush, them having sex, them laughing, them fighting, snoring, dogs barking, EVERYTHING.
That's one of the *beautiful* things about apartment living....it's never really that quiet.
Kids have a great imagination.
I don't think a "person" is angry. I think you live in an apartment.

I don't believe in ghosts. Usually when there's a slam and my cat races down the stairs, he's the one who caused whatever made the slamming sound. The last time I heard a slam in the middle of the night and my cat went running, it was because he knocked the speaker off the wall. Have you checked your speakers?

You obviously believe in ghosts, so even if you are making this ghost angry, you are about to move, therefore you won't have to put up with its wrath for much longer. The ghost can't stop you from moving.

I hope I'm not wrong about ghosts, because hanging around for all eternity slamming doors and switching lights on and off sounds like a pretty boring existence, one that I would personally prefer to avoid.

We had a VERY angry man living in our home. He would come and sit on our bed and poke my husband - he thought it was me - until I was NOT in bed one night and he got poked!! LOL!! I burned sage after he was VERY angry and sat on my chest one night.

I used the sage and stated to him - you are not welcome here, please leave. It's been 5 years and he's not been back.

In my VERY OLD home when I lived in Belgium? We had people/spirits/ghosts and just liked to walk around and knock on the doors. Scared a few of our friends, but they were just "there". No harm.

Say a prayer for your family's safety.
Burn some sage and ask him to leave.

Good luck! Congratulations on the move!

If it were me I would smudge the house with sage while focusing on inviting in positive energy and casting out negativity. The balance in an area can be upset by changes so the sage can help rebalance things.

Without getting into the "real or not real" debate, I think there are two things to keep in mind: there is nothing wrong with praying for your family's safety, and, there is nothing wrong with calmly trying to ask a spirit to leave (just in case it exists). I do not think you should necessarily involve your children in all of that, but you can certainly do it on your own.

I'm of the opinion that many phenomena happen because we *want* to believe something is happening. Maybe we aren't aware of that belief, but it is often there. I've experienced this myself and I'm an extremely skeptical person in this regard.

As others have pointed out, apartments have a lot of noise. I wonder if your daughter has been exposed to other kids talking about ghosts. That's fairly common. Some children have irrational fears of "Bloody Mary" or other supposed entities. My son didn't use the toilets in the bathroom for all of kindergarten because he had heard that the bathroom was 'haunted'. (Thank goodness he only went for half-days.) The point of this is that stories, other kids stories (and boy, do they like to conjure up amazing ones! I've heard several real doozies which would have made my hair stand up had they been real. But they weren't.), and exposure to storylines (either hearing scary movies at night when you think they are asleep or kids sharing about movies their older siblings have watched) all can factor in.

I've lived in apartments. We have a house now, but there are sometimes 'unaccounted-for' noises. The house settling. The cats (we have two) make more noise than one would think. I've seen exactly the same thing with the cat looking scared and charging up the stairs. Our two utterly FLEW off the bed last night when my husband sneezed-- and it wasn't a big, loud sneeze. Cats startle easily. Chalk it up to you situation. Enjoy moving into your new house. What a difference that will be. Still, there will be noises. You have to be okay with life making some noise now and then. It's not ghosts. :)

I am a psychic/medium and work with a group who does paranormal investigations. My advice to you is to keep calm and ask the entity to leave. Explain to him his time on Earth is over and he died many years ago. It is now time to go into the light and move on.

You could google paranormal groups in your area. Contact them and ask for an investigation.

I do have 3 resident ghosts in my house. We leave each other alone and I am fine with them being here.

I grew up in a house that had spirits in it, although they never bothered me or my family. They just were there. We'd here footsteps, knocking, whispers. Nothing frightening. Mostly residual, although we'd have visitors come and go. It sounds like yours are much the same, nothing to worry about. They may be more active during an upset in the normal - a move would shake things up, or renovations, etc.. Sage can be helpful in clearing this kind of thing, but it needs to be done properly. A reiki master can be called if you need help or if it starts to bother you and your family.

They say kids and animals pick up on it more so than adults (at least I think that's what I saw on a medium show). I myself don't discount it entirely, but no - we've never had experiences like this.

get a bundle of sage to burn. light it, then blow it out so it only smokes. Walk around the place letting the smoke "smudge" out the never energy. You can say a prayer/poem whatever you want to call it. Something like - this is a home of light and love, no negative energy is welcome here. Just say it over and over as you smudge the place. You can change the words to whatever you want the point is that you have to believe what you are saying. It's about your intention. If you can't get sage, you can also use incense. You can even just use a loud ringing bell, preferably metal one, to "ring the house out".

I do believe that there are spirits that can get trapped because they don't know how to move on. Throughout my life I've had different experiences that can't be explained. Have you tried talking to it to ask it to stop? If you've ever watched some of the paranormal shows on Destination America channel or Syfy Channel, they usually recommend just talking to them like you would talk to a regular person.
Kids are usually more sensitive to seeing spirits, so I would believe them if they say they saw something, especially since your cat reacted also.
Just say, "Please stop scaring our kids. Yes we are moving, and you should move on too...go toward the light"
Maybe they just need help moving on.

I've seen a photo of a ghost that a friend accidentally took. I was there that night but didn't see it. It was standing in an alcove and the image was caught in a photo of something else. This place is on a registry for ghost stuff so I believe it.

I think there are ways to release the ghost/spirit. Some believe that you can have your house blessed by a priest or clergyman and the spirit will be set free to move on. I think I would be doing that instead of moving out of the house. If I loved living where I was and the family was happy. But if you're set on moving you could talk to someone in the paranormal venue and ask them if the ghost will move with you.

You inherited the house, is it that person's ghost? What about the history of the house? It's worth figuring out what's going on and helping the spirit if at all possible.

Yeah...I am on the fence about ghosts...I'm with ℜ❀$eღud❧, birdsfreakmeout, Nervy Girl and B. I'm not sure what could be at play and I have never experienced ghosts or "uneasy feelings" even at old, abandoned places and while trying to be receptive to it. Heck, I have even visited cemeteries at night, and nothing, also attended a few ghost tours and again, nothing. Every orb I have captured on film can be attributed to dust, or a raindrop on my camera lens. It is fun to read about them though, hear ghost stories and think every little sound and sight out of the corner of our eye is a ghost, unwilling to attribute it to something more realistic or the laws of physics, events like the wind or a storm, because thinking it is a ghost is just more fun.

I do agree with others that living in an apartment, condo, or townhouse will definitely bring about some odd noises that you may have trouble with explaining away, at least initially. I had rattling windows in my condo. The issue? The caulking that sealed out the air was old and so were the windows, so any time there was any kind of gust, the windows would start to rattle. The air circulation coming through the air leaks would make some of my doors slam too, and I'd find pigeon feathers inside my home, because they would get through the cracked caulking. I had my windows replaced with impact windows and all that has stopped. I do hear whistling during gusty days but that's got more to do with the curves of the building that trap the wind than anything else.

I hear laughter sometimes that comes through the a/c vents, the noise of a vacuum cleaner coming through those same vents, stomping (kids running down the hallway), the sound of gurgling water from the pipes, and tapping on my window (scaffolding ropes hitting my window on windy days), as well as a scratching sound on the glass at night (pigeons' claws as they try to position themselves to sleep on the window sills). I sleep with a white noise machine and on occasion, I wake up and the sound is off, as if someone moved the switch. Not sure what is turning it off, but I guess it could have been a brief power surge or an overloading of the grid. My daughter used to say she could see angels/little children in our other place, and she would sing to them. Not too long after, she stopped talking about them and I never gave it much importance. I figured they were like imaginary friends for her. In my current place, shortly after my friend died, she said she saw someone watching us. Same thing after my dad died. I figured it gave her comfort and left it at that. I didn't dwell on it, nor did she. My sister thinks my parents' room is haunted because dad died there. I sleep in that same bed where he died and never had issues.

I am wondering if you may also have some air circulation issues that are causing doors to slam. When my a/c kicks on, sometimes, it will make doors open (if they are closed) or close (if they are open) due to the built up air pressure. I also wonder if you'd be thinking it's ghosts if your daughter hadn't mentioned it. I'm not trying to lessen your experiences or hers but they say you can cause things to happen in your mind with the power of suggestion. Maybe the kids at school have started talking about ghosts after seeing a ghost movie and they have her believing that every little thing that happens is a ghost. She could also be afraid of the dark and rather than admitting it, she could be blaming it on a ghost that is scaring her. She may also have been unhappy at the apartment and hoping you'd move. Regardless, I think the burning of sage cannot hurt, and the fact you're going to be moving to a new place may put these issues in the past, behind you. Enjoy your new home and best of luck!
