I had my daughter 11 months ago... well lets go further back in middle school when I first started having periods they were terribly painful (like in the hospital) and after about the age of 15/16 they started to easy up pain wise. Now the past 3-5 periods or so have been horrible! The first day I have it I'm in bed with heating pads and more tylenol than one person should take! I was just wondering has anyone been through this and what was it if you have?? thanks!
Thank you all again for all the information I saw the doctor and she has put me on birth control so we are going to give it a few months and see if it helps!

My periods were very heavy after having my daughter. It sounds like your hormones & your body is trying to sort itself out after having your baby. I think a really good Homeopath could help you better than a conventional Dr. I had menstrual issues all my life & did not start to get sorted out until after my 1st visit w/ a homeopath at the age of 34. The only person I could recomend is Susan Delaney in carrboro, she is a Naturopath. Conventional Dr will put you on hormone therapy or perform a "procedure" to "fix" you. All that will only lead to more issues down the line. The answer lies with in your body, don't suppress it! I went that rout for 15 years before I got real help. Good luck to you.

i feel your pain. i never had much trouble with cramps or anything like that until after i had my children. after the 3rd one was born though i found myself in bed with the heating pad just like you. i saw my doctor and after a lot of trial and error he's decided that i have endometriosis. but there were lots of options before that. if you're having enough pain to interrupt your daily activities then you should probably see a doctor imho. fixing the pain might be as simple as a new birth control pill.

Go see your obgyn...I have the same problem...but my monthlys last about 3 weeks now...my doctor did a transvaginal ultrasound and found adenomyosis. Birth control can alleviate this some. Also, have you checked the symptoms of endometrosis. I would get it checked out and don't settle for anyone saying its "normal"

I have a natural supplement that normalizes estrogen in the body. It works no matter what age or reason for the problem. I have many teens taking it for PMS and Menopausal women for hot flashes as well. This product normalized my estrogen which caused a huge fibroid tumor to shrink and disappear with 8 months, saving me from a hysterectomy. The product is called 'Psycles' comes as part of a 'WellPak Female' supplement system or you can get it separately. Monsy back guaranteed. I would give it three months to rebalance your system for total relief. Read a little about it here: http://www.ailaspeaks.com/vitalityandhealth.html then click to go to company pages to order. I know what you are going through. After I had my first son my periods actually got better. They were shorter and not as heavy, but I have a 6 month old, and ever since he has been born, it is back to high school all over again too..actually it might be worse than high school. I got my tubes tied with this one, and I recently started taking birth control to regulate my cycle. I was bleeding a lot and having two cycles a month. You might want to consider talking to your GYN about your concerns, and the pill is always a good way to get it under control. Hope that helps!

I've had some painful periods in my life, and I used to deal with them like you're doing--pain meds, heating pads, lying around in bed; but I've found out that there are other ways of dealing with it. In fact, if I'm active (go take a walk), then that helps a lot more than lying around. A friend of mine usually has painful periods but one time didn't have the first twinge--she had been refinishing her floor and thinks the activity made her pain go away. But the best thing I've found for pain is calcium! It's possible that your body is low on calcium, which is why every period is painful for you now. I usually take a couple of calcium (with D) whenever I start to get twinges, and it never progresses into full-blown pain. I'd suggest taking calcium daily for a month and seeing what happens.

I've always had incredibly painful periods....they just get worse with each birth...
I don't have endo, cysts, or any other deformity, although I would recommend you get checked. I think some people can just have more painful periods than others...
and I would definitely recommend ibuprofen/advil if you don't have liver or kidney problems. It works SO much better. Midol works too, but it has caffeine, thus it's something I can't take...
Good luck!

I experienced the same thing you are describing years ago. I was diagnosed with endometriosis. It is a very painful disease. There are medications that you can get from your doctor. You do need to let your doctor know the pain you are suffering, it may be something very simple. I ended up having surgery and that was 13 years ago and I have never had anything other than normal cramps with my period.
Contact your doctor and there is a website in you can look up, I am not quite sure the name but you could google endometriosis and see if the symptoms they list are the ones you are having. Good Luck.

I have a friend that had very painful periods. She had ENDOMETRIOSIS (I don't know if I spelled that correctly). Do I little internet research on that. The bad news, is she had to have a hysterectomy. I see you are young and only have 2 children. If this is what you have, one of the NATURAL ways you can "fix" it is to get pregnant. Again, that's what my friend told me, so do your research and DEFINITELY see your OB-GYN. My friend couldn't get pregnant because her husband is "fixed". And just to add to it, my period changed after I had my second child. Mine is painful for the first 2 days and I get more headaches during. I used to be on the DEPO shot, I didn't have a period for 8 years. This may also be an option if it's not endometreosis. Good luck and stay healthy.

My painful periods started at the beginning and got worse over the years. The doctor put me on birth control in my mid-20s. Life seemed good. Then I had 2 daughters. The pain came back. I had my tubes tied but the pain kept getting worse. The doctor put me on birth control again and the pain got really bad. I ended up having a total hysterectomy in 2002 (at 40). No one ever said I anything wrong and never gave me any reasons for all the pain. I do understand how you feel. I also know that after my kids the pain was worse for a while and that every time I took anything with any kind of hormones in it, the pain got worse. I wish I had an answer that could make you feel better. Keep letting your doctor know how bad your periods are and keep the heating pad close by.

Take the Tylenol a few days before it starts. Do not take any dairy nor caffeine. Those things seem to irritate it to no end. Ask your doctor about putting you on birth control pills or the patch. That will help balance you out. Understand that you have to find ways to thin the blood so that it will not hurt so much when it is coming out.

Hey there,
It sounds like your hormones are off balance. It can cause all sorts of things to include debilitating pain before and during your period. My best friend would spend the days leading up to her period, sore, in pain and really bloated, then the first day of it she would spend in bed in tears. It was really bad. Someone told her about getting a kit to send off to have your hormones checked to see where you stand and whats off. She did that and when she got her report back and saw what was off, she went online and found thoses hormones.
Long story short- It took a month but she now has NO pain just a little sore before and thats it. She is really happy with how it has turned out. ( The kit she found online as well it tests your saliva - you send it off to have tested)

I know what you are going though. I too had bad cramps to the point that when I had my second child it was a piece of cake my body was use to the pain. Some times I would pass out because of it. What did I have ENDOMETRIOSIS. You need to go see a Doctor preferably your OBGYN. Every person is different and each situation is different, I don't know what you might have? but that is NOT normal.
I no longer have pain they had to remove my uterus and ovaries. I had a total hysterectomy. I am grateful to have 2 beautiful children, a girl and a boy. There is hope for you and it may be something so simple. Don't wonder go to your Doctor.
Your friend that will be praying for you.

Hi E.,
After my son was born, I also had extremely painful and heavy periods which started when he was about 6 weeks old and would last for weeks. I had never had any problems like this before. I just thought this was normal after having a baby, although I was a little surprised that I was having a "period" even though I was breastfeeding exclusively. I finally went to the doctor when my son was 6 mos old, and found out I had a huge ovarian mass which turned out to just be a hemorrhagic cyst (thankfully). I was completely terrified as they were suspecting cancer. I even had surgery scheduled before they finally reached the cyst diagnosis. The cyst finally went away on its own after several months, and my periods returned to normal. Point is, don't let this go! I certainly learned my lesson not to let things go when I feel like something is wrong. Make an appt to see your gyn and get everything checked out. He/she can probably give you some options to relieve you from the pain, as well. Good luck!

Have you discussed this with your GYN? It could be a number of things. I have Fibroids which cause my pain. Some months are better than others. If you have Fibroids you may have heavy bleeding and a lots of pain.

You need to speak with your OBGYN about this issue. It could be anything from endometriosis (which I have) to ovarian cysts to nothing...either way, you should have your doctor check into what is causing your pain. From my very first period I had horrible cramps. 8 years ago I finally had surgery and my doctor found severe endometriosis. She removed what she could and then developed a plan for me to keep it under control. I have had 2 children in the past 4 years (I tell you, contractions to me were NOTHING because my periods had always been so painful) and after having each child, my periods would start out okay but would eventually get bad again. That would be my sign to talk to my doctor.
Please do- don't put it off. It could be a simple little fix for that HORRIBLE pain!!!
Good luck!

I had the same problem after I stopped nursing and my periods came back (and I've never had painful periods). It didn't last though, and they got better over a few months. Take what you can for them and take heart...
I haven't read the others' posts yet but I also recommend drinking a cup of raspberry leaf tea (make sure it has actual raspberry leaves in it - most teas that say raspberry are just flavored) at least twice a day, preferable three times. It'll help tone the uterus. (Also good for sore throats).

You may be interested to know that just recently I spoke with a young woman who claimed that as a rawfoodist she experiences no pain but as an cooked food omnivore she has terrible pain with her periods. She did stop being an organic raw foodist for a while because it was hurting her social life but soon decided that the raw organic food life was easier on her body. I am myself 95% raw and can vouch for the tremendous benefits. I wish that I would have learned of this years ago as it would have saved me from endometriosis and dsymenorhia.

Hey E.!
Our hormones have gone through some great changes during and after child birth. This is the reason your periods are so painful and heavy. There are some herbal remedies that may be of some relief. Drinking red raspberry teas, helps to strengthen the uterus muscles and supplies high levels of iron. Iron is necessary during our moon time due to the lost in our bleeding. Also cramp bark and chaste tree are great herbs to relieve hormonal stress (cramp and bleeding issues). Hope you find comfort in these remedies.

I suffered from painful periods my entire life also....vomiting from the pain often. After having kids, it got even worse. I could barely leave the house for two days. I just had a procedure done; it's called Novisure. It's a ablation that basically burns your uterus lining. You can't have it if you want more kids, but now I don't even have a period!! It is awesome!!
First, talk to your doctor, I took the pill for years to help the pain and have a prescription pain med Anaprox that helped. I went off the pill when trying to get pregnant each time.
I don't know what the answer is for you, but your doctor sure should be able to help! We women shouldn't have to suffer each month!!

talk to your ob gyn...you want to rule out endometriosis and cysts- and as long as you can take it, I'd take ibuprofen or aleve instead of tylenol as they are anti-inflammatory, tylenol's not.

I have always had painful periods that got worse after I had my daughter in 2006. The cramps were so bad that I couldn't do anything but lay in bed as you describe. I was only getting one every other month and in April of last year it was so bad that I went and had an ultra sound and i have cysts that get bled into with each period. they go away after my period stops. However to be able to deal with the pain I have to take Naproxen to be able to function with little to no pain. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant and I have a cyst that they are wanting to keep an eye on after I have this baby due to all the problems I was having wtih my period after i had my daughter up until i got pregnant with this one.

my first thought is endometriosis. you might want to talk to your obgyn to see if you have other symptoms for it. the only way to diagnose it is with a laproscopic surgery and they can at that time remove some of it, although it is not 100% curable. i have severe endometriosis and have had 2 surgeries, they are helpful, but the thing that helped me the most was doing yoga. i have found reducing stress reduces the pain between the periods (if you are experiencing pain then as well), as for the periods...hot water bottles (my husband actually took my heating pads away because i would burn myself trying to ease the pain with heat), hot baths, massage, and my doctor gives me vicoden (nothing else helps). hope this helps.

It sounds to me like you have Endometriosis. I suffer horribly from it. And mine started around the age of 14, would get better, then worsen. I would go see a doctor and question them on the issue. Also, you can research it and see if it matches up for you. YOu would be suprised at all the symptoms Endo can cause. I have had three surgeries already, then two beautiful girls (3 1/2 and 14 mos). The pain is getting so bad again, I am sure I have another surgery on the horizon to remove the Endo. Hope this helps!

I have had terrible periods, with very heavy bleeding and so much pain I could barely handle it. I was so heavy I thought I might be hemoraging. I went to my OB/GYN and found that I had a cyst. She was able to give me some medicine for the pain and the cyst passed on its own. You should get checked out though to make sure it is nothing more serious.

I hear you. I used to suffer so much and would take 6 alleve at a time and that was the only thing that would get me through. I found later though, that I did not have enough progesterone and once I began a Natural supplement of that, no more pain or fibrocystic breasts. If you would like some information about what I use, please contact me at ____@____.com
