I am now having my 2nd period after giving birth to my 7 month old daughter. I feel like I am bleeding to death and have really bad cramps. I have a history of endometriosis, and thought that after having children it is supposed to get better not worse. Is this normal, is this how my periods are going to be from now on? I don't think I can handle this if it is. Any advise would be good!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well after 2weeks of my period it finally has stopped. My doctor did not seem to be too concerned, so we will see after my next one how it is. Thanks for all your input.

My periods always came back with a vengenance also. It takes a few cycles, and then they get better and go back to normal. If you were on birth control before and not now, that also may make a difference. Welcome back to the exciting world of being a woman between pregnancies! YUCK!

Talk to your doc to rule anything out, but it's not uncommon for cramps to get worse after having kids. Mine have gotten alot worse after each child but there's nothing wrong. I was just told it was normal and common (after a few tests).

I also have a history of endometriosis and had the same problems after having my son. I had to have laparoscopic surgery and have the endometriosis removed and take lupron shots for six months before I could even become pregnant with him. My son is now 9 years old. A year and 8 months after his birth, I had another laparoscopic surgery only to find out the endometriosis had come back. I had to have a hysterectomy. They removed my right ovary and fallopian tube because it was covered in endometriosis. When they removed my uterus and sent it off I had andeomyosis also. I was having a period 3 weeks out of the month when I had surgery and I was on birth control pills. I had severe pain and very heavy bleeding. You should have yourself checked out.

I was diagnosed with endo after my 2nd child, and I have had 3 more since then. My doctor put me on birth-control pills to help keep it under control, and it really helps a lot. Without them my periods are extremly heavy, but I haven't really had cramps since the birth of my first child, so I don't know if the pills will help with that. Ask your doctor if it's ok to start taking them.

I, too, had always heard that the pain would get better, but my doctor told me the opposite:( I only had 1 period when my son was about 8 months old and then I *oops* got pregnant again. lol...so I don't know if mine would have been worse than before or not. Second son is 7 months, so I expect as soon as he starts to sleep longer stretches at night and doesn't nurse quite as often, I will get it back and see what it brings.
Good Luck:)

I have never had endometriosis, but I have a repeat c-section with my daughter and found out that I have developed not one, but two hemotomas from the birth. Since it was a repeat, they scheduled it and she didn't have time to drop on her own so they had to physically push her down while they were delivering her and the dr had to push so much and so hard that I had hemotomas on the top of my uterus. One was 9cm and the other was 7cm. They decided to let them "dissolve" back into my body rather than drain them and while doing so, I had some really bad bleeding in the process. I had to call my dr at midnight one night because it got so bad. I was getting leg cramps and abdominal cramps so bad that no medication would touch the pain. They told me that I was basically hemeraging and he called in a RX to a 24-hr pharm to help the bleeding. Not sure what kind of delivery you had or if any of this might be possible for you, but I would DEFINITELY get ahold of your OB/GYN and tell them what is going on. Don't wait until it gets too bad and the pain gets unbearable like it did. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.

I had the same problem. Mine got much better. Your body's hormones are still adjusting. It should work itself out within the next couple cycles. If not talk to your Doc about Birth control.

When my priod finally came back after each pregnancy & nursing, they were HORRIBLE! It lasted about 4 or 5 cycles before they were managable again. I had never been laid up with menstral pain before, so it was really concerning to me, but fortunately it was temporary. Use lots of Midol, heat pads and rest. Good luck!

B.,
I do not have endo, but I too experienced very heavy and painful periods after my daughter. So much so, that when I had my first period at 4 weeks post, they had to run tests to make sure it was my period and not a hemmoragh from my c-section. It took about a year to get back to normal (I noow don't bleed like that or for as long, only 5 days now), but my cramps are still much worse. My Dr. told me that childbirth is a toss up in regards to your periods. It can either make them better or worse and there is really no way of telling which way it will go. I know I too at first felt I couldn't handle it. Just stay in touch with your Dr. and see what he/she says.

I had endo as well before and after my 1st child it is not as bad after my second and he is 13 mo now. I would try menstrual PMS Midol for the cramps those things helped me A LOT and a heat pad. I would check with the dr at your next appt and see if it has come back. I hope you get better I feel for you big time.....

I do not have endometriosis, but they thought I did because of my painful periods. I was told birth control would help - no such luck. Had the laparoscopy to determine I didn't have it, and I was told that might help. No luck again. Then I was told childbirth would likely help. After 2 kids, my periods are more painful than ever and that is even with being on birth control. I hate to go off birth control for fear of longer, stronger periods too. I think my only hope now is menopause or getting a hysterectomy. I take Darvocet each month for my period, along with muscle relaxers. I had one doc suggest a procedure called "LUNA" but I could not find it anywhere online. It is where they laser a nerve that runs from the back of the uterus to the spine; about 80% of women have relief and no cramps. I am convinced I would be one of the 20% with continued pain. I say if I'm going to do surgery, I should just take it all out.

I know that's not very helpful, but I do want you to know you are not alone. I am convinced if men had periods and cramps, they would have found a way to eliminate them altogether! Good luck to you and I hope you can find some relief. Keep talking to the doctors until someone hears you and really listens. I will go in again early Nov. and try to find a way to manage the periods more productively, but at least I get a little relief with the meds.
