What are some effective or good ways to relieve pain? Preferably not medications.
Okay so this is for two people, myself and my BF. My pain is muscle pain, mostly stiffness. His is a broken wrist, although in a cast it is still uncomfortable.
What would you recommend to alleviate these types of pain?

What can I do next?

Muscle pain (unless torn/ surgical/ etc.)...
- more of whatever you did in the first place
- lots of water to flush out toxins
- massage

Broken Bones (or muscles damaged from surgery, injury, etc.)
- Pain killers (percoset, vicodin, etc.)
- Pain relievers (tylenol, ibuprofedn, naproxen, etc.)

((If a person is in pain they heal a LOT SLOWER, and typically not as cleanly. Pain is a major obstacle in healing. I could go into the chemistry of it, but that's long and involved, although extremely well proven.))

Two things are on my fall-back pain treatment list:

1) Yoga

2) Ice (20 minutes of ice, especially on my back, gives me 3-4 hours of wonderful numbness and mobility)

A hot bath and massage is good for muscle pain, but a broken wrist? Oh man. All I can say is Alieve, Motrin, Advil, Tylenol. Maybe not narcotics, but something!

For the muscle pain and especially stiffness, which causes the pain, exercise and stretching after. The exercise, even just walking for at least 10 minutes, will warm up the muscles. Learn to do proper stretches after. This is what my husband's surgeon told him after he had surgery to repair his back. He deals with nerve damage and his muscles tighten due to limited activity. Now that it is nicer out and he is out more with the kids, he is once again realizing that it does help. You have to be consistent though. I am starting to get stiff in my hips and legs and really need to step it up myself. Stretching lately has helped a bit but I really need to get moving.
For your bf, I would say ice if he can.

For muscle pain I like to use biofreeze. It is kinda like an icy hot I guess. You should be able to find it at most chiropracters offices and you shouldn't need to be a patient to buy it from them.

ICE is my best friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that does not work I go to Ibuprofin. I have hurniated disks in my lower back. I will ICE and sometimes do a HOT bath or shower on the area that is in pain. Biofreeze is great. For the wrist since it's in a cast you can't do much not medicin.
