Hi my name is M. and I have been dealing with them for years. You will be in pain for a while after one has ruptured. But the pain will get better I have found laying on a heating pad helps with the pain. Don't worry things will get better and hopfully you won't get anymore more but if you do youlearn what helps to make it less painful. Good luck

I've had endometriosis since I was 12. When I was about 28 I started getting cysts that would rupture. Painful. I wanted to have more kids, but couldn't get pregnant. Doctors weren't much help. I got looking online and found out more about natural progesterone cream. That decreased the pain and problems that I was having monthly.

When I was 12 they put me on Birth control for the endometriosis. But if I had a daughter that had my same problems I would tell her to use progesterone cream. There aren't any bad side effects. You just feel better. It's worth a try for anyone with any kind female problems. That way you have the same results as birthcontrol, without the yucky side effects.

I had ovarian cysts as a teenagers, and I'm sorry that you have to go through that pain, I know first hand how much it's hurts. Just like the other ladies have already told you there isn't a whole lot of options out there. I opted to go on birth control when I was 15 because of the cysts. Once I started taking them I stopped having the cysts rupture. (Every single women has ovarian cysts, they are completing normal, we're just the unlucky ones who's body don't get rid of them properly, so they get so big they rupture) I didn't do any kind of surgery at all, the birth control pill took care of it for me. I've now been off birth control for the past few years and haven't had a recurrence (although I've also been pregnant most of that time, I have a 18 and a 5 month old). If you do not plan on having any other children soon, I would recommend trying birth control pills, otherwise surgery is always an option if it's a real big problem. I wish you the best!

I've had several over the years. It's excruciatingly painful, but there's not much that can be done, or at least that's what I was told. I was also told that being on the pill would reduce the occurrence. As a more drastic option, they said it was possible to remove the portion of the ovary that produces the cysts, but I was in my early 20s and did not want surgery. They only give that option if you get them all the time. I'd had 5 in 7 months. Yuck! The super potent ibuprofen helps with the pain without all the side effects of the stronger narcotic stuff. I'm sure your doctor would be willing to write a prescription if he/she hasn't already. Best of luck to you.

Hi there! Long story short my doctor told me that every woman gets them but that they usually rupture every month when a woman is menstruating and the pain can be mistaken as cramps. Some get them worse than others. If your's aren't rupturing that's when there can be complications - they may not be rupturing every month. Yours may not have ruptured for a while and that's why you're experienceing the pain for such a long time afterwards. The pain from a ruptured one can last quite a while. If you happen to switch doctors just make sure to alert your new one that you do suffer from them. If they don't rupture that's when you want to be concerned. I unknowingly had one that hadn't ruptured for 3 years - it was the size of a large grapefruit AFTER it ruptured. When it did rupture I wound up in the hospital for a week with emergency surgery to see why I was bleeding internally and that's when it was discovered. I almost had a blood transfusion becuase I had lost so much.
So as long as you're aware of them you're good to go. I go in every six months for a pap because of them just to make sure that they are rupturing. As for the pain afterward i just use heating pads and extra strength tylenol.

I have been dealing with ovarian cysts since I was a young teenager. I had to have emergency surgery on my ovaries, and my right ovary actually hemmoriged during the surgery. When I was pregnant with my son, I had a cyst rupture, and they thought it was a tubal pregnancy. I'm not sure as to any other problems you may be experiencing, but I have PCOS, and am frequently in pain.

I had them during my first pregnancy, though they never ruptured. I think that you still be tender and in pain is probably quite normal, and you could have more than one I suppose. But rest assured, it did not affect my daughters birth in any way, and was more scary than anything for me. Also, just as an aside, I found that the pain from the cyst itself was a tad worse than recovering from my c-section, so you shouldn't be too hard on yourself for the pain.

I have had this myself. When my cysts ruptured I had a high fever and severe pain. I also had pain a few weeks later. One thing I have noticed since they ruptured is that when I am on my period I have more cramping and pain on one side every other month (that is the side that had the cysts). I am not sure if that made any sense. I am curious what has your Dr. said about the pain? My Drs. told me that I could get the cysts removed if they come back, but that would be mean scare tissue and I would still have discomforte at times. I have been lucky that I have not had another episode of the ruptures. If you have any further questions feel free to contact me.

An Ovarian Cyst is just the same little sac that holds your eggs just before they are released into your tubes to be fertilized. If the sac doesn't go away after releasing the egg and reforms into the sac, it is called a Cyst. When they rupture, it's just them breaking. It will be tender for awhile. Many women have them and never feel anything. My sister is pregnant and has one. It's nothing to worry about.

I get them all the time. It has been years. Now I have pain on the left side all the time. The nurse said there could be scar tissue on the ovary which is making me uncomfortable and conscience of that ovary. I have an appointment next month to talk about removing it. I don't need it. I have had all my children and I am done being in pain. I have a bad thyroid and I had to have another blood test. Not sure what that has to do with the ovary, but that is what my dr. said I had to have done by the next app't. I haven't found anything to really help. I have tried the heating pad and pain meds, but nothing helped. Good luck!

How are you and Hope all is well but I was just going to post an request but seen yours first..Anyways I had my first experience just last saturday afternoon5/19/07 and as everybody else said it's like you were in labor it was alll throughout my left side towards my back....Anyways they kept me overnight in ER because i couldn't get to Ultrasound till the next morning so I mean I was on those pain pills alot it did help but the side effects were kind of manageable..When zi finally got my ultrasound they said yeh it was Ovarian cysts and I never heard of it so they didn't tell me much but all I asked if i required surgery but replied no its that it'll pass away itself..But they wanted to keep me overnight just monitor the pain and I refused becuz they was going to have on pain pills at home so I did...Till this day I'm still feeling pain off and on and they gave me Ibruprofen and Vicodin so it helps but I'm kind of wondering and researching how long....So my follow up Apppt is next week so I definitely keep you posted or if anyone have any suggestions please feel free to respond...I hope this has been a bit help ...God Bless...

I used to get them all the time as a teenager, but wouldn't know it until they ruptured. Being on a certain birth control pill seemed to help (unfortunately, I don't remember which one it was). If you're still feeling pain, I would call your doc again. A couple of weeks seems like too long.

i'm C. and i have ovarian cysts. the first time i experienced the pain of one rupturing i was driving back home and omg it felt like i was in labor. i had to pull over and have my cousin come pick me up and his girlfriend drive my car home cause i was in such pain. after i stayed sore for about the next day. i went to see my pcm at the time and he referred me to another quack doctor who wanted to remove my IUD, because he said that it was causing an infection, all this was diagosned without any kind of x-ray or ultrasound down..well anyways i switched pcm's and he sent me to get an ultrasound and found that i had one big and a few smalls ones on my right side and the left side was all littles ones. after my pcm reviewed the ultrasound he put me on a medication called metmorfin? (not sure on the spelling) anyways its a diabetic medication but there is a 50% chance that it works in shrinking the cysts. he also prescribed me some viacodins for when they would act up cause the meds took about 2 weeks to 3months to work. that was about a year and half ago and haven't had an episode since. i hope this helps.

I had ovarian cysts and my side was painful. Some burst on their own and others by surgery. My advice, is to contact your doctor, because maybe you had more than one and that is why you are still in discomfort

Yuck right. Not the funnest thing to go through. I get them almost monthly. If I'm lucky...I'll get a month off. They always burst, they always hurt and the pain and sensitivity always lingers. The best thing you can do to help with the pain is talk to your doctor about pain medications. My doctor has been really amazing at allowing me to have a stocked perscription for when I feel one about to burst and to manage the pain in between. I'm not sure if it's the same for you but I can't touch my stomach near my ovary when I have one so pain before rupture is an issue for me to. Also, allow your body time to heal. There will be swelling, building of fluids and you may even notice sensitivity (pain) on the other side. That's normal to. Heating pads help me as well.

The pill is supposed to be a suggested aid to preventing these but then you have to take on the pill side effects which I almost think are worse than pain...even as frequent as I get them. I can't take the pill due to a blood clot issue so I have to tough it out. Good luck with this. It's common but not fun at all.
