Outing Ideas with Toddlers

I am taking my friend's kiddos for the day on Wednesday. A 1 yr old and a 2 year old. I've gone to local nature centers (Burgess-Shadybush (sp?), Sterling, Metroparks) and local bounce houses and climbing/activity places (i.e. Jungle Java, Kiddie Klub) and of course, gone to the mall but I was wondering if any of you ladies have any other ideas that might be fun to do since it's supposed to be raining the entire day.

What can I do next?

Here's what we did all winter long on my snow days... (son will be 3 next month)

-Bake cookies
-Play doh
- Indoor obstacle course (made out of your household stuff)
- Children's museum
- Tent inside and read stories (indoor "cam-out")
- Popsicles in the bath tub
- rain gear on and splash in puddles
- library (call ahead and see if they have a story hour planned that day)
- check the newspaper or your neighboring towns' websites and see what's going on!

Local library kids' section is a free, fun place to go. You can visit another library if they have a better children's area and no one will care.

Try the library, ours has games and puzzles. My girls even at that age loved to go to the library.

Does your local public library have toddler story times? (I'm drawing a bit of a blank here since my kids are 9YO)

Not sure where you live, but Urban Toddler in Saline is wonderful for their age. It's all hands on kind of play....train tables, kitchen, puppet theatre, firehouse, etc. There is also the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum. They have a room just for toddlers that includes a water table and a bunch of other age appropriate things to explore. It's also an inclosed room with doors so they can't escape!

Oh, and one more....the Detroit Science Center also has a wonderful kids area. Has similar things to explore that the Ann Arbor HOM has.

What ever you decide to do...have fun!

Kiddie Klub in Rochester is really fun. It's at the corner of Crooks and Auburn Roads. On Wednesdsay it's $5 if you come between 10-12. It has an indoor play set and little rooms like kitchen, dress-up, train table. Plus you can pretty much see every location from anywhere in the place.
