We just had out 3 year wellness visit. The pediatrician has recommended we get physical & occupational therapy for our son, along with help for sensory integration. Our son has low muscle tone along with some delays. I am totally lost. His office did give us a list but I need to go with referrences. Please help. Are there other Moms out there who have been through this? Any suggestions on doing stuff at home to help our son, any recommendations for facilities that take care of ot/pt/sensory issues is appreciated.

What can I do next?

I'll third Our Childrens House! We go to the one in Coppell and have learned so much and my son is doing great. His sensory issues are more auditory/vestibular but it's a wonderful place.

Also, read The Out-of-Sync Child by Carol Stock Kranowitz. It's a great book that really spells out what you are dealing with and what to do to help. She also has an activity book called The Out-of-Sync Child Has Fun. She breaks down the activities into groups for specific needs. And, it's lots of fun for the kiddos!

Good luck!

Hi A.
Both my boys had this. I went to Our Childrens House but it was not covered by my insurance. My son still has some issues but is getting much better. Depending on your school district, they may offer some free services. My son goes to Grapevine/Colleyville ISD 1x per week, completely for free for speech. My youngest is in ECI where I have a speech, occupational and specialist out at least 1x per week to help him catch up. This is really for kids under 3 so your son is too old at this point but you could talk to them to find out more services that could be available to you. If you have more questions, you are welcome to ask me...since now I am going through it times 2!

Our first one has sensory issues and also had low muscle tone (upper body). We took him to Our Children's House Baylor for both the evaluation and therapies (occupational and speech). I was very impressed with them and all that they offered for him. They have offices in several cities, so you can probably find one near you.

Good luck!!
