I recently asked a lady (at the hairdressers salon) how she like her kindle. "Love it!". She added that you have to be careful since there are several brands of these "books", and the systems are not compatible with one another.
I've been thinking about getting the Kindle reader. Has anyone tried it? How do you like it? Are there enough books out there & are they expensive?
I got the Kindle for Christmas & I love it. I have found there are many free books out there. I like the fact that you can change the font, so I don't need my reading glasses. Thanks for all the input!

Love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it love it. My mom loves hers too!
I used to love my Kindle. Until:
1) alot of books that I enjoy are not available on the Kindle
2) the price has gone up on the books. I just bought 2 books for my Kindle....they were $14.98.....the hardcover is $15.98. SO what is the purpose?
I am going to start looking for an alternative ereader. After spending alot of money, I am very disappointed.
My husband just got me one for my bday, and I'm returning it. I go through a ton of books (when I have the time!) and get the majority of them from the library and borrowing from friends. New releases start at $9.99 online, though I think older books are less. I know if I had to buy all of my books, I would spend a ton of money and probably not read as much. I don't think there's any way to share books with another person either!
Just to let you know if you have an iPhone there is an amazon kindle application. You can download/application. There are plenty of free books to choose. The price of the other books are about 9.99 as the previous reply stated. I have always wanted a kindle myself but I am too cheap to spend 200 to 300 dollars to do it. Since I already have paid for my iPhone I can essentially do everything that the kindle can do pluse talk on it. Good luck.
Love it!!!! So easy to use! Does not take up space like Books do!!!! Downloads are easy. Great investment. I love mine..I also accidently deleted a book and the help desk was great in helping me do a restore on it.
My dad just got one for his birthday and LOVES it! He's an avid reader and can't say enough good things about it. I set it up for him and it's really neat. So convenient and most books are 9.99 or less--including new releases. If you look it up on Amazon there's a number you can call just for kindle questions. My best friend has one also and loves it as well.
Ditto to everyones comments. I love my kindle! I have the first one - got it $50 when oprah had it on her show. Kindle books are cheap and sooo convenient. You can even find some free kindle book downloads. Throw it in your purse - use it while you're waiting somewhere because you're early. I took mine to dr's appts with my 2nd pregnancy. Download free samples then decide. Take it overseas - you have to download all your reads before you leave the usa though. Saves all the paperbacks piling up. They were trialing email on it - not sure how that has gone...i used it several times. You can upload your books anywhere/anytime...not like some readers where you need wi-fi., either using your computer or from your kindle.
You won't regret your purchase - worth every dollar, and you'll enjoy your reading freedom....must whip mine out again!
I've had mine since February 2008 and have the first generation. I LOVE IT! I wouldn't trade it for the world. I have traveled with it and it's easy to read with it. I have found that reading it is easier on the hands and eyes. I tend to fly through books.
They have reduced the price on it. I originally paid $400, they are now selling for $299. It is worth every penny.
There are so many books to choose from and even more FREE books on outside third party websites. So easy to download from them and easier on Amazon....
When I first got it, there were only about 7,000 books to choose from and now there's about 350,000 books. New Bestsellers are $9.99 and alot more for less. I have bought for $2 and alot for nothing
If you're a voracious reader like me, you'll appreciate it and carry it with you all the time. I'm only speaking of the first generation, I have heard that the newest version is so much better.
I love it. I got it recently and take it with me everywhere. Very convenient and easy to use. Great to use when reading in bed too!
I know someone who has one and LOVES it. It fits in her purse and if she has a few minutes she can pull it out and read. She puts it in a zip lock baggie to protect it if she is going to be by water. I though have a hard time reading print on a lit up screen, eye issues I've always had, so I don't think it's the thing for me.
She also said she went on vacation and instead of lugging 10 books in her suitcase she just had the kindle to take with and it had all those books on it. That does sound convenient.
