Opinions About Delivering at Centennial Medical Center

Just wanted to get opinions about the whole labor, delivery and post partum at Centennial. I was unaware until today that I would have to move from a Labor and Delivery suite to a post partum room. I am expecting my third child and my OB only delivers at Centennial.

Thanks so much for all of your help.

S.

I LOOOOOOOOVE Centennial. They really are great there. I highly recommend them. My first two were born at McKinney. The last one at Centennial. Wish I had them all at centennial!

I don't know anyone who has given birth at Centennial but I know that they have the top (Level 3, I think) Neonatal Unit in this area. When I had my 4th at McKinney hospital, they said if there were any complications that the baby would be sent immediately to Centennial. That should make you feel better! Good luck! Also, my daughter had her adnoids out and tubes put in at Centennial and we were very happy.

Hi S. -- I delivered my daughter at Centennial and was really happy with the service and attention that I received. The nursing staff was incredible (I had a VERY difficult labor) and so attentive. The nursery was also great, and they did lots of gushing over my daughter, so that always makes a new Mommy happy too. I was in such a daze after my delivery that I didn't even notice when they transferred me to post partum, and the room was just as nice (bigger, actually).

The staff is top rated, there's a NICU in the hospital if complications occur (heaven forbid, but at least you won't have to deal with being transferred somewhere else in addition to worrying about your baby), Daddy gets to go to the nursery right after baby is born to video her first bath and get weighed and measured, etc.

If your experience is like mine, you'll be quite happy. If you have any questions, you should talk to your OB. There may be good medical reasons why he/she only delivers there. Best of luck to you!

I delivered my son there in 2006. I had a wonderful experience, far better than when I delivered my daughter at Richardson Regional Medical Center. The nurses have their act together at Centennial, coming in at night only once to let me rest. The breastfeeding help was much better there too. As for transferring rooms, I just stayed in my bed and they wheeled me to the new room. No big deal.Good luck!

I had our son at Centennial. We had a terrific experience - even moving for the post partum room. The nurses were great, our doc loves Centennial and they let us keep the baby with us. We will go back there if we're lucky enough to have another baby.

Centennial Medical Center is the Best! I had the option of delivering at Baylor Frisco, but chose Centennial. When I went to Baylor Frisco for the tour, it was no doubt like a 5 star hotel. However, it was all about the money at that place! If you look closely, you will see that their "emergency room" is simply a token that has built to comply with hospital laws. I spoke to a doctor friend and he told me that if you were to go there for an emergency (like a car wreck) they would put you in an ambulance to another hospital! They can't handle any type of higher level care. Anyway, I chose Centennial and it was the most pleasant experience ever. The nurses were friendly, my epidural was awesome and the 3 days I spent afterwards went by quickly.

If you have any complications before 20 weeks DO NOT go to this hospital.
Centennial's policy is...less than 20 weeks you are treated in the ER by doctors that don't know anything about OB.

I've delivered at both Medical Center of Plano and Centennial. I had an amazing experience at Centennial. It's nice, clean, the staff is great, and the food is great for hospital food. The only thing I would keep in mind (this may not even be an issue but I thought I would throw it out there anyway) if you are considered high risk for preterm labor I would not deliver at Centennial. It's not the delivery part and care for mom you are concerned about it's the NICU. Both of my kids were born pre mature. My first one was born at 26wks and the other one was born at 35wks. Luckily, they are both very healthy and strong boys now at the ages of 2 and 10months. I didn't know what preterm labor was with my first so I was lucky for delivering at Medical Center of Plano. When I was pg with my 2nd my doctor had moved offices and was now at Centennial. We talked about the possibility of preterm delivery again and she told me if I go into labor 34wks or earlier to go to Medical Center of Plano...their NICU can handle anything...if I went into labor 35wks or later then I would be ok to deliver at Centennial b/c their NICU can handle it since you are not as likely to have as many complications...you can still have complications but the older the baby is gestational the better off the baby is expected to be. Good luck!

I recently delivered at Centennial in June and had no major issues. I thought the nurse staff could have been more personable. But that was only for a few of the nurses. Everyone else was fine. The labor and delivery was uneventful. The food was good, my epidural went fine, the accomodations were fine also. If you have any questions let me know.

I delivered my youngest daughter at Centennial in May 2006 and had a wonderful experience. The nursing staff was great and very laid back, which I like. At the time they were a lot more lax about what could/couldn't be done during your delivery than some on the other hospitals I visited. One of the nicest (non labor related) things about Centennial is the parking. I knew I had family coming in from out of town and it was nice to know that there is plenty of free parking. My oldest daughter was born in The Woodlands and there you Labor, Deliver and Recover in the same room. I was concerned about moving rooms at Centennial because I didn't have to the first time. But for me it turned into a non-issue. They don't rush you and let you move at your own pace. Honestly, after being in the same room for so many days with my first I enjoyed the change of scenary. I had a friend who delivered there in March 2007 and also had a great experience.

I delivered both my boys there, and each time had a great experience both times. I promise you transfering rooms is not a big deal at all. In fact, I was glad to transfer rooms, especially after my first time to deliver, and how messy it can all be. The room they will transfer you to is a bit smaller since you won't have a team of staff in there. The staff was also very friendly and answered all my question I had. I hope this helps, email if you have any other questions.

Also, I did not deliver there, but have 2 good friends that did. One is a PA and the other has very high standards...they both loved it. One even drives from N.Dallas to a ped. because she loved the place so much. I think, to my very limited knowledge, that most places move you from an L/D room to post partum after delivery. I know I did at a different local hospital and it really was not a big deal at all. So, don't let that stress you out.

I didn't deliver there, but I have spoken with three different women who DID, and they all loved their experience at Centennial. They said the staff was wonderful, the care was great, and all agreed they would be repeat customers if they were to have any more children.

I delivered both of my sons at Centennial most recently in August. I had a great experience both times. This last time they brought my husband and I a steak and lobster lunch the day after my son was born. The food wasn't as good as it sounds but it was so nice to have a sit down dinner alone with my husband. That's something we don't get very often and it was nice to be able to sit and talk about our newest addition. You can't go wrong at this hospital. The staff is amazing. Good luck to you!

I can say, without hesitation, that I could not have asked for a better first-time delivery experience than the one I had at Centennial. My OB, Dr. Greenberg, is based at Centennial, so it was a no brainer for me and my husband - who also worked there at the time. The L&D rooms are very large, great for accomodating guests, and alsoo for not feeling cramped by your "stuff". As for moving from L&D to Post partum, it was totally smooth. They packed my stuff, wheeled me about fifty yards away and then brought my precious daughter in when I was settled in bed. They did all this while she had to be in the nursery for her exams/bath/etc. after we had had our bonding time and her first meal!!! It was wonderful!!! If your are as blessed as I was, Lori will be your delivery nurse!! She was a gift from God. Good luck and have fun!!
