Online Photo & Video Storage

I have tons of digital pictures and videos! I have been backing them up on removable storage (FreeAgent). However, the purpose is to protect the photos incase of fire / weather damage - not just computer damage.

Our area has been getting a lot of severe weather and tornado warnings so I'm thinking about this now more than ever!

So I'm wondering if you can recommend a web site that will store LOTS of photos (for free) that is reliable for the long term.

TIA!

Be careful with online storage! My husband was uploading his pictures to the icloud from his iphone. Something happened. They are all still on the cloud but we can't get them off anymore. No idea why and no idea how it happened. We've got a couple months worth of photos lost in cyber space now. We now back all his pictures up on the laptop.
With all of our photos I store them on an external terabyte drive and burn a physical copy onto disc (although I'm behind at the moment).
You can upload pictures to Costco for free and only have to make a single purchase yearly to keep them for free. You can simply print 1 photo a year or get your holiday cards there even.
Drop box is another cloud based service that family and friends of mine use. It's very reliable.

Have you considered getting a large capacity flash drive and keeping it where you can grab it and throw it in your purse if you have to bug out?

There are many places to store pics and stuff. I have them on my laptop BUT I also have it set in sync with Google. SO what I download goes there automatically. I have used Picasa but I wasn't too impressed. Many of my friends love that program though, I think it's beyond me.

I also have my cell phone set to sync with FB. I know that my account can be deleted by them at any given moment but I always have FB pictures backed up on my hard drive and that backs up to Google...vicious circle huh?

Sorry, if they are valuable to you? I wouldn't choose something "free".

I would make sure I have them on a thumb drive and labeled and stored in a fire proof safe....

We use a Terrabyte External Drive - we update weekly. It's easily stored and easily accessible - you can take it with you as well...

Good luck!

The trend is the cloud. Any kind of hardware can malfunction on you. I use Google drive and get about 15 GB of storage for free. I have a sync app that automatically uploads any picture/video I take on my phone to Drive. I also took all my home photos and important files (tax returns) fro my home computer and put them up on the drive, as well. It's all safe and secure (and I can access them from anywhere).
If 15GB isn't enough for you, you can pay the monthly $1.99 and get 100GB of space. It's still a pretty good deal.
