Do you have to state the required question again if you used it as the subject? :D
I have spent days uploading upwards of 5000 pictures from various memory cards to Shutterfly. Now someone asked me what I will do if Shutterfly gets hacked and I lose my pictures. So of course, now I am panicked and paranoid. Thanks a-freaking-lot, lady.
What websites do you use to store your photos, and do you back it up anywhere else?
Help ease my mind, ladies!
Thanks for your help! I do have an external hard drive, but I wanted something that was outside of my home. Unfortunately, I have a friend who lost everything in a house fire. She had pictures in albums, scrapbooks, her PC and an external hard drive and everything was lost. I am a foster parent, so I have tons of pictures that I can't post on facebook. I appreciate your suggestions!
Oh jeez, some people know how to turn your "I completed a project" high into nothing don't they!?! ;)
I use Snapfish for most of my storage, although I do have some on Shutterfly as well. It is backed up on my computer, but that's it. I consider Snapfish my back-up actually so I really hope they don't get hacked!
Snapfish, by the way, has a feature that you can download on your computer that automatically uploads your photos to their site every time you plug your camera into your computer. It's awesome! It's only for PC though. We just changed over to Mac and I can no longer use this feature! :(
I only ever upload pictures I am sharing with people, the highlights of all the pictures I take. They are all backed up on a Terabyte drive and I burn CDs of them as well. I never trust anything online enough to be the sole keeper of my families memories.
If anything, if you do want to continue to upload your pictures online I would order their CDs occasionally so you have a physical copy in your posession were anything to happen. Like Grandma T said, Kodak closed their site and unless you bought their CDs or moved them to another online site they are now completely gone.
Not worth the possible loss to me!
Two external hard drives for everything. Once we edit and pare down another folder on the hard drives and shutterfly. We have been using shutterfly for about 8 years and only have good things to say about them. They have some of our pictures that are no where else besides the printed ones, because we lost two hard drives. I'm sure they have things backed up too.
I know Kodak just recently shut theirs down, I had a LOT of stuff there. Now I just figure my pictures I post to FB should be there a while, I don't see FB leaving anytime soon.
We have our photos on the computer, backed up with an external hard drive, as well.
I only... upload photos to an external vendor, IF I use those photos for photo gifts or books.
I never upload ALL my photos, to a storage website.
All of our pictures are on our pc, then backed up on thumb drives and an external hard drive. I upload only what I use for projects to Shutterfly. We started using an external hard drive because my pc crashed....thankfully I was able to save my pictures. Won't ever let that happen again!!!
My pictures are everywhere. :)
I have them all on Shutterfly because that's what I use to share them with my MIL and I print them and make gifts there.
I also use Picassa just because I like the program.
I load most of them onto facebook.
The main way I back them up, though, is through www.sugarsync.com . I love it! I needed a way to back up all of my school files (I teach high school), and my home files, and be able to access all of them from school and home, and sugarsync is a cloud that allows me to do that. It also automatically adds everything to sugarsync, so I don't have to remember to save things there. Absolutely everything I have electronically is on sugarsync, including pictures. It's great!
I can access all of my files from any computer that has internet access, too. So if I'm at my mom's and need to do some school work, I can.
I upload my pics from camera to an external hard drive and then to shutterfly. I have several external hard drives...personal, business, etc... I also back up all of these external hard drives (about 3 times per year) to another larger external hard drive.
I use exterenal h/d to store my pics, and also in the PC. Don't store photos on the net at all. I share some from time to time, with friends and family - use Picasa and FB.
I use Snapfish, and I SHOULD be backing it up on an external drive, but yeah...doesn't really happen.
