yeah my other question today was pretty heavy.. i dont want to sit and stew all day.. so heres another question .. do any of you use any shampoos/products that say color shield or color protector that actually works... the past few tiems iv dyed my hair ive dyed it dark red/brown .. and everytime i shower i sware once my hair dries the color is more faded out the first few times i shower after i dye it i can actualy see the dye in the water running out of my hair .. i used garnier color shield shampoo and conditioner.. obviously its not doing anything .. it stinks because i found a shade that i really love but a week after i dye it its not even close to that color .. i dont want to fry my hair by dyeing it too often .. any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Instead of using a color shield, try a color enhancing. for example, I am an **ahem** blonde ;) and I use a purple shampoo to keep it looking that way.
I think for brunets and auburn hair it is a chestnut or red color shampoo.
I have never looked for it at the drug store or grocery store, I buy it at a beauty store like Ulta.
Multiple brands to choose from - Redken, Joico, Paul Mitchell, etc.
They make shampoo and conditioners. since they can be pricey you can alternate between your protecting and enhancing shampoo/conditioner regimen.

Maybe try a better brand, like biolage or aveda color conserve? Drug store brands tend to have more sulfates or detergents. They strip hair more because of their sudsing quality. Go to a beauty supply like Sally's, Harmon or ulta. Or the aveda store at your local mall. Aveda also makes some great color retaining shampoo in your color. Good luck.

Hi! I used to have hair color inspired by the color of wine so it was a reddish/fushia concoction that my hairdresser and I came up with. Here's the problem: red dye has larger molecules that do not adhere to the hair as well as other colors, so it does fade very quickly. Unfortunately, you can apply color sealer or whatever, but you will still be able to see the color literally course down the drain after a shower. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings as I loved my hair the wine influenced shade, but long term, it was a battle that I didn't have the energy to wage. I hope this helps a little and good luck to you!

I use an auburn color. Fades quickly, very high maintenance. But I love the color and people compliment it often (it works well w/ my skin tone). So I do root touch ups about every 2-3 weeks and I don't shampoo it every single day if I don't have to. My hair style/length allows me to pull it into a basic updo that actually works well on the days I don't shampoo. And it can also mask the roots if they're in need of a good touch up, but I haven't had the chance. :). This approach probably wouldn't work if I had bangs or a shorter more layered style.

I don't dye my hair, but I thought the color always fades to some degree. It seems in order for dye to stay in the hair, it would have to absorb the color. So when I put lotion on my hands and wash my hands within the hour, some of it washes off. If I wash my hands two hours later, I don't notice the slimy feeling of lotion and water. So my skin must have absorbed it or it must have been wiped off on everything I have touched, perhaps a little of both. Then there is that other chemistry issue. A pregnant woman's hair does not take to dye that well. Not that you are pregnant, but what are the hormones doing right now or right after your hair has been dyed.

Your question also makes me think of my hair stylist/tech. He has one bottle of shampoo that he keeps by his sink and seems to use on everyone. It feels so wonderful and my hair is always so shiny when he is done. Is the shampoo for color or non-colored hair? I will have to take a look now, but I think it will be for non-color or more so, non-specific.

Sorry not much help. Now to ready your other question.

you could use ARTEC which is a color enhancer shampoo..... after a few washings, it does build the color.. but just keep in mind that although you are washing it, you are also adding color.. The other thing,,,, have you tried Naturtint? it's not as harsh as some of the other dyes out there. You can get it at Whole Foods.. (right now, on sale for about $15.00 .. and IF once you find a color you like, order it online for even cheaper.. So far, I have found that it covers the grey and the color is pretty.... (at least the ones I have used so far) I have saved so much money by dying my own hair....
Also, I don't find the Naturtint to be drying, this after leaving it on for about 45 minutes.. (I do that because I have a lot of grey)

Also, if you have a nice natural base color to your hair.. then you may not even want to dye it... just try the Artec shampoo and color enhance it that way... there are other color shampoos as well.. you have to shop around..

good luck
