Just wondering if anyone has ideas on how to control oily hair-instead of washing it everyday? I know it is from hormones, but I am sure there is something possible to do?Any suggestions would help. THANK!

What can I do next?

L.,

I just thought I'd let you know that I just tried the baby powder advice and it worked fairly well. It seemed like it got rid of some of the oil. I too have oily hair and hate washing it everyday because it's just not good for it. Try the baby powder. Good luk!

I haven't tried it myself, but I've been thinking about it for travel days. There is powder shampoo that works like the baby powder but is supposedly better for your hair. You just sprinkle it in and go.

There are also spray 'shampoos' at pharmacy stores - used a lot by people who are in the hospital for some time or folks in nursing homes, etc... They work actually very well. A beauty tech also once told me you can use cornmeal ? I think that's what she had said anyway...There are colored powders at some beauty salons - but kind of pricey. Check Walgreens - :)

This comes from the INSIDE. You mentioend hormones, which is right on. Trying to control it with topical solutions won't get rid of the real issue. You can try going to a Naturopath (check out my resource center at www.healthhabits.com); however, I can say for certain that diet plays a huge part in hormone production. I do nutritional coaching, if you're interested.

Good luck! :)

the theatre and movie industry has been using baby powder at the roots for years, they even have colored powders specifically for this use.

Hello, sometimes when I have to leave the house and don't have time to wash and style my hair, to freshen it up i put baby power in it and it takes the oil out.

Hi L.,
I am a hair stylist, and in my 15 years experience I have learned that some people with oily hair sometimes are not getting a thorough enough shampoo. I have oily hair too, and I find that it helps to use a professional shampoo for oily hair, or a clarifying shampoo and make sure you use enough of it to get a good lather & some days you may need to repeat. This works for me as well as my clients & you may be able to cut back to every other day. Hope this helps! :)

Sounds like you've had some good advice. I just want to say Kudos to you for being a stay at home mom. I am too! It's all been possible because I work from home.

I just read that washing it everyday actually makes it worse. The article was written by a professional hairstylist of the stars in Hollywood. He suggested putting baby powder in your hair. You put the powder into your hair in sections and go! Never tried it, but hope it works for you.
