Does anyone have a good OBGYN to recommend who accepts Providence and ideally practices on the east side of Portland? I would greatly prefer someone who is interested in natural childbirth.

What can I do next?

I don't know if he accepts Providence but Dr. David Sargent is WONDERFUL!! I can't tell you how great he is! Not to mention he has an impeccable record, tons of experience, wonderful caring bedside manner and he has delivered 8 of the babies in my family (my son, nephews, nieces and cousins). His office is across the street from Adventist Medical Center and he has privileges both there and at Providence Medical Center. Good luck!

Edit: I just saw the recommendation for Dr. Levin - I wouldn't see her. She has had more than one law suit against her and in one it resulted in the death of the baby (and it was a legitimate case - my law firm worked on it). ((Sorry, I don't want to be a downer, it's just the truth.))

I like Dr. Dina Levin at the gateway women's clinic. I was referred to her by the ER doctors at Adventist hospital. I have heard very good things about Dr. Dyson too (same practice). My naturopathic doctor/midwife said she has seen him deliver babies vaginally that she wasn't sure could be.

I would highly recommend Dr. Brian Drake. My husband and I used a midwife through Providence Portland throughout our pregnancy and were planning on an all natural childbirth, but as we all know, things don't always go as planned. I needed pitocin because my uterus started shutting down after a long labor, and ended up needing an epidural for vacuum extraction because the kiddo's head was 14.5". Dr. Drake was the OB who performed the extraction. I was very, very nervous about having a c-section and didn't want anything to do with an OB, but he really put me at ease. He was totally on board with whatever we wanted to do and respected our wishes to be as natural as possible. He went over all of our options and let us know the benefits and risks of each and gave us plenty of time to decide. He was really amazing. We also had a friend of a friend who ended up with Dr. Drake and said he was wonderful; they loved him too. They said he would even be open to home birthing if they were interested. He has a very calm, yet serious bed side manner and is focused but not in a rushed "let's get this baby out of you asap" kind of way. I would even considering using him as an OB instead of a midwife when we conceive again, which I never thought I would consider- an OB, and a man to boot! I was really that impressed.

I really like my OB at Gateway Women's clinic. There are several there and I Think they take providence. I saw Dr. Levin but I hear good things about everyone there.
