Ok, so this question is for ME, yes, me, the Momma :(

I have been having horrible nightmares a few times a week, some stick out more paticularly than others, though. The problem is, I can't distinguish if it REALLY happened or if it was JUST a nightmare. I try and replay in my head what went on in the nightmare and then I wind up just making myself believe that it happened, but in reality, I really have no clue? What does this mean? How do I overcome these terrible, vivid nightmares? Thanks for all your helps, it is greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I have had bouts of nightmares as well. For me stress is the trigger. Add to that dwelling on something right before turning in and you have vivid nightmares.

I would suggest trying to figure out what your trigger is and removing that. In the mean time try clearing your thoughts before you go to bed. Think about kittens and puppy dogs, just not something you are actually being thoughtful about.

Here's a website that talks about drug-induced nightmares http://www.macalester.edu/psychology/whathap/UBNRP/nightm...

Also, EFT (emotional freedom technique) is a tapping technique on acupuncture points that helps with things like this. emo-free.com is a website with more info or email me. I am not a practitioner so I am not trying to solicit a client. I just don't want to take the time to type a bunch of info if it is not something you are interested in.

Good luck!

Have you started any new medications lately? I know when I had inner ear surgery this past December they gave me Percosets (sp?) for pain and the first set was okay but when I refilled my meds, they gave me such horrible nightmares! They were vivid and awful. I asked about it and they said that some batches of drugs will do that because you never know where they are coming from.

I hope that your nightmares go away. Try reading a favorite book before bed, with some Chamomile tea and try relaxing, even hop in a hot tub and soak. It will relax your mind and body. They say that a warm toasty bath and then sleep in a cool room will make you sleep better.

Hope this helps. Best wishes!

try not to eat anything before bedtime. i usually stop snacking by 8pm. my mother would tell me, she use to eat bananas and other fruit before bedtime. and she would have nightmares about someone sitting on her chest and that she could hardly breath.

A Feng Shui Tip to get rid of nightmares is to place a bowl of water next to your bed. Don't aks me why but it works.

Also get a dream catcher, they work too.

I do agree with others suggesting stress, or food, or medication change can be involved, and looking for triggers. Other things to consider - get a physical, check vitamin levels, and be checked for hypoglycemia, which can cause very vivid dreaming (good or bad). There are psychotropic medications that can help with excessive REM, but I really wouldn't go that route, personally.

I would also try relaxation, and even reading comic books or some such trivia before bed. Perhaps something in this post may help:
