Nip Pain

Mamas & Papas-

Any thoughts on what I might use/ do to help with early preg nip pain? Nips are hard, pronounced, and sore. Breasts are heavy, but not generally achy, just the nips. I'll get to my health insurance nurse line this evening, but meanwhile, if there is anything you suggest that I could pick up from the pharmacy during my lunch break at work, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
F. B.

So What Happened?

Tried the cursing under my breath. Proved surprisingly effective.
Nurse suggested hot compresses and to go to my GP if I have fever.

For me, I found that bandaides helped!

I think it was that my nipples were getting chaffed on my bras. You might try it. I found that breast pads chaffed more, but the bandaides helped unil the baby came, milk came in, and they toughened up.

Best !

Ugh - I remember feeling like I had rocks inside my boobs! I found a tight exercise bra helped - but not much else... At least you'll get a beautiful baby out of this all one day! Congrats!

I've only found padded bras and under-breath cuss words to help. Mine hurt through the whole pregnancy. If you find something that works, I'd love to know!

Congrats!! Happy news!

When I was preggo and would take my bra off, I swear I would expect my nipples to burst into flames! Luckily it only lasted a few weeks. But I do hear that cabbage leaves work. I'd think anything cool would feel good. You might want to get a couple of ice packs for your office freezer.

Again - congrats!! What number is this??

Cooling them may help. I used Ameda ComfortGel Extended-Use Hydrogel for the first six weeks after birth for soreness. I'm not sure that they're sold at a pharmacy. I usually get them on Amazon or Babies R Us.

I would think anything that keeps them well stabilized and doesn't rub would be fine...?

Maybe a good sports bra, or a bra with molded cups so anything brushing the outside doesn't come into contact?

Worst case scenario, you could use some of those absorbent pads for nursing in your cups for an extra layer between your nips and the fabric.

Cabbage? Maybe some cooling gel/cream of some sort. I have no real suggestions for you other than to continue on with the cursing under your breath!

I do want to say congratulations on your pregnancy F. B.! How exciting! When are you due?

Do let us know what the nurse line has to say. Good luck.

During my pregnancies, mine became like that (and to a certain extent they stayed that way unfortunately).

I was given a lanolin product (I think it's sheep's oil) to use which worked really well. It was a cream in a tube. Almost like a paste.

I had to buy my first ever padded bras because friction caused me more pain. That did the trick. I got cotton bras with lots of support and built in pads.

Good luck :)
