Anyone experience night sweats? I'm 38 and this seems to happen more on the winter. It used to happen often after I had a baby four years ago. But it just started agakn and is making me nervous. It happens when I have the heat on or off.

I get night sweats sometimes about a week before my period....I just assume they are hormone related.

38 is not too young for peri-menopause.
See your doctor - he can test your hormones and tell you if they are fluctuating.

Do you wear different jammies in the winter?
Some people get them from wearing non-breathable fabrics, like those soft fleece PJs. Make sure you are always wearing 100% cotton, breathable fabrics.

You've got so many things going on with all these posts - they could be interrelated. You're sick, you have pain below the ribs, and you have a sick kid. I'd stop being nervous right now, just get through this and see what develops - if your immune system is being hit by a stomach bug and whatever the sick kid has, your internal temp can be all off. Get through this, and see if the night sweats continue.

I suggest you go to a doctor. Night sweats can be caused by several different things. I'm having night sweats and will see my doctor. I had a small hormone based tumor in one lobe of my lung. They removed that lobe aND I've been cancer free for 10 years. I think the night sweats are not tumor related but I'm going to find out.

I suggest that night sweats are usually caused by hormonal changes. Our bodies are full of organs that can be out of whack. An example is low thyroid function. See the doctor.

I had them really bad after I stopped nursing my 2nd when I was 41 years old. I was taking the mini-pill while I was nursing. I switch to a different birth control pill and they stopped. It could be perimenopause or just a shift in hormone levels. Go in for a physical.

Unfortunately, all I can add is that I have been suffering with night sweats, or more literally, nightly drenchings of the bed, linens, pillows, hair, pajamas, to the point I cannot make my bed as it needs to dry out during the day.

I have been to my doctor and OB, both, several times. And everything is fine: my hormones, yes are changing, but I'm 54 and still have regular periods, it's not my thyroid, or cancer, or infections, it's just me.

I'm pleasantly plump and sleep with a duvet, and throwing that off doesn't help.

I have noticed that my sweats occur while I'm in my deepest sleep cycle.

I do have to eat a banana every day so I don't cramp from the excessive sweating, as I sweat everywhere. Even my legs are wet and slippery.

I still recommend you get a thorough baseline check up, but for me everything was normal and now I just have learned to manage it.

Oh, and this started when I was 39 after the birth of my 2nd child. And I have lived in many climates since then: Seattle, a damp cold, SoCalif with gorgeous weathrer, Phoenix a horrid dry heat (didn't help at all) and now Calgary, a seriously dry cold and it still occurs in my cold bedroom. So environmental temperature has had no impact on my night sweats.

I had extremely bad night sweats for many years before my hypothyroidism was diagnosed. It went away as soon as I started taking thyroid replacement. I was usually cold when I was sweating, so it had nothing to do with the heat.

Night sweats from perimenopause and menopause are another matter. You are too young for that, so you should have your thyroid tested.

Get all the medical testing everyone here has suggested. I would also suggest laying on a fleece blanket. It's what I do and it seems to help keep me from waking up in the middle of the night in an almost literal pool of my own sweat.

Don't be nervous to get to the bottom of this mystery. It may not be your greatest fear and even if it is at least the worry of not knowing won't be added to the mix.
