Next Door Dog Leaves Its Business in My Front Yard

Hello,

I really appreciate your opinion about how dealing with a neighbor who lets his dog "poops" in my front yard.
This is being very usual, and the guy or the lady with the dog never picks up after the dog does it! Today, the dog entered to my property (it is not fenced), towards the corner of my frontyard, "my" garden, and did its business right there in front of my window, and when I realized about that I opened the window and I told the guy in a kind way to stop the dog..but, he just ignored me and kept walking, he did not even look at me and say I'm sorry or whatever! How do you deal with this? I have been very patient, but this is driving me nuts because it is becoming so often, and my kid plays outdoors!
I love dogs, I used to have dogs all my life, and I am planning to have another one, but I remember that when I took a walk with my dog, I would have a plastic bag with me or a shovel to pick up after any "accident".
Is there any way to make understand these people that I do not want this happening again? is there any law in Indiana about it?
I'd appreciate your opinions!
Thanks a lot!
Alejandra

Have you tried just having a conversation with the guy to tell him how rude you think it is and that he should respect your property?
Most people are ignorant of the fact that they are morons. Maybe he doesn't realize how big of a deal it is. Squeaky wheel gets the grease...if you say something a couple times and he's really that big of a butt, he might walk the dog elsewhere just so he doesn't have to listen to you complain.
If I were you, and it happened again, I would pick up the poop and place it in his front yard or even on his front porch, with a note stuck to it asking him to please be more considerate. In big bold black permanent marker so he can't miss it...fight fire with fire! Sometimes diplomacy is overrated.

First step is to find out your town's ordinances. Most cities/towns have leash laws... dog off of your property, it has to be on a leash. So right there is an offense (dog not leashed). Secondly, many towns have an ordinance about picking up after your dog - which obviously the neighbor isn't doing. So right there are 2 finable offenses. Start by going over and talking with him. Assume the best (he's clueless) and be nice (so you're the 'better' person). Politely tell him to keep your dog off of your property and/or pick up after him. You don't want your kids stepping in the dog poop. Then tell him that if it continues to happen, you'll have no choice but to get the authorities in involved. Be patient... this tends to fall low on the list of priorities for the police so it may take several complaints. If you live in a neigbhorhood with an HOA, you can file a complaint to the board. They are usually faster-acting than the police in these types of cases.

You have tried to talk to them and they do nothing, so I would be a little passive-aggressive about it. Pick up the poo in a shovel and leave it on their front walk. I'm guessing that if they have to step around it enough, they will start taking care of it. Shame on them for acting like such AH's about it! I always either pick up my dog's poo or use a stick to put it in the street if I forgot a bag.

if this is a graden where people often walk this is not a good idea but if it's somewhere that just the dog would be they have this stuff that itches like crazy the dog will go in it once and never again.... you should be able to get it at lowes.. and if that doesn't work i'd put it on their front door step :)

Definitely pick it up and move it to their property... I'd put it right in front of their front door, but I'm a horrible, mean person. :)

When my neighbors dog was doing this I picked it up and threw it in their driveway so they could see it. It is so frustrating to have a neighbor like that. Does he keep the dog on a leash? I know most towns have leash laws. I would try going outside and talking to him next time they go around. Try and stay calm and let him know you have kids and they don't really like playing in the dog poo! Good luck mamma and let us know what comes of it!

Sounds like he did hear you but acted as if he did not to get away with it. Did it happen again after that? You may not be as bold as me but the next time it happens I would call the 911 NON EMERGENCY line and explain you situation. Maybe an officer can take care of it in a calm matter. DO NOT CALL 911. That number is usually listed in the front of the phone book or yellow pages. Explain the situation and the fact that you have asked before to stop. If you cannot let your kids outside in your own yard that is nuts!!!!I myself would WANT to confront them but since you have kids you dont want to put yourself in possible harm and you never know who is crazy anymore!!!
