I am newly pregnant...is it safe to put low lights in my hair. My hair is currently highlighted blonde and the roots are growing out. It is making me crazy. Is it safe to do lowlights? Thanks

What can I do next?

You'll get both answers on this one for sure. I got my hair colored and high and low lighted after 12 weeks just b/c I figured it was (like many things) "safer" then. I also drank caffine (my doc told me it was ok to have 300mgs or less a day.) AND (GASP) drank a glass or two of wine once my kids were close to being due...my sister-in-law literally tried to pry the ONE glass of wine I was drinking at a wedding out of my hand when I was in my 8th month with my first - she was horrified I would do something so awful to my baby. I love her to pieces (despite our extremely different opinions) but it's just an example of how worked up people get over this stuff...decide what's best for YOU and YOUR baby and just do moderation - check with your doc on stuff and enjoy your pregnancy - it's awesome!

As long as you do it in a well-ventilated area it is considered safe. If the smell bothers you then you need more air. You can ask the person doing it to avoid putting it on your scalp to minimize absorption if that makes you feel better. Personally I would wait until after the 10th week when the organs are done forming, but that is not supported by science- just a personal hangup.

I agree with Courtney, wait until after the first trimester (I know if may seems like forever) and do it in a well ventilated area. I am currently PG and have been waiting too.

There's nothing more important right now than "cooking" a healthy baby. Your hair can wait. It probably is more noticeable to you - so try not to stress about it.

Also, from one M. to another - consider going more "natural". You're already realizing that life is no longer "just about you". Your blonde hair will seem less important, especially if you have a dark haired baby - LOL!

You're beautiful and taking care of someone else. Let them be the priority.

Best of luck!

When I was pregnant, my doctor told me I could get hightlights in the last trimester. I would check with your doctor. I hope this helps!

I have dyed my hair with all three pregnancies and painted the house.
They all came out fine, and are still very healthy.
I wouldn't worry,but than I'm no expert,either.
But I really think there is no harm.

I too would wait for as long as you could. But I have found a salon that uses much more natural hair coloring products called BG Salon in Chicago on Northwest Highway. SHe just revamped her whole salon. Now these are not 100% organic products, but they are so much better than any other salon you will find.

I am into health and wellness myself and it is so true about what you put in and ON your body. Your body absorbs skincare products and in 27 seconds - it's in your bloodstream. If you would like more information about safer skincare and personal care products, just email me. Ask for Bonnie at the salon and let her know that I sent you. I'd love to hear from you!
