I everyone! my partner and I want to have a baby, the point is that my hair is white (I paint it on the same color as the original dark brown) and I would like to know if paint it with common hair colors could affect the baby, my hair grows up in an incredible way! after a week the roths are grown, so have to re paint around each 3 weeks otherwise looks terrible. What can I do?
Many thanks in advance!
Cheers, C.

So What Happened?

At the begining I dye my hair with tee, but had headaches, so decided to leave it and bleach to won't have a big shock (among black and white), now I'm 31 weeks pregnancy :) and sometimes get depressed with my white hair, but only thinking on my baby made me strong enough. Even now I'm considering the possibility to leave it as it is, we will see..

again, many thanks dearest friends! warm regards!

HENNA. it is a plant based product. you will need a transition time but yes, hair dye is horrible for babies in utreo. try "rainbow henna" they have most shades that hair dye has from blond to black and in between.

You have to ask your OB. I believe you are not supposed to highlight or dye your hair when pregnant, at least in the first trimester. The only way around this, I think, is if the dye doesn't touch your roots. But, I can't be certain of this. Ask your doc.

I would get rid of the hair dies and hair colors for awhile. Although there is no proof of any harm, you want to be as careful as possible. Whenever you get your hair colored, some probably oozes into your skin.

Ask your OBGYN for sure. I recall not being able to dye my hair for the first three months, after that it was fine I THINK...but for sure, just call your doc. The nurses there should give a straightforward yes or no answer and you'll have better peace of mind :) Oh - and I also went back to my natural color before we started trying so that I didn't have roots. Give it a shot. Nothing wrong with white hair - think Marilyn Monroe, Gwen Stefani! People pay money to get it as light as they can, you are one step ahead! Celebrate!

Hello C.,
my hair dresser and i were having this discussion just the other day, she told me that it is fine to color your hair during pregnancy because the dye does not actually get into your body. the only thing because of the the hormones in your body during pregnancy you may find that the dye turns out alittle differnce compared to now. good luck

I think that dying your hair is okay, as long as you are doing an at-home kit and not going to a salon with all those strong chemicals in the air, but you should check with your doctor to be sure.

I had my hair done during my pregnancy & my son is fine. Just talk with your colorist about it.

Just dye your hair back to your original color before getting pregnant, and leave it natural through your pregnancy. I would def ask your obgyn before continually doing your roots every 3 weeks throughout your pregnancy. Of course your hair dye will somewhat seep into your bloodstream. Your skin is the largest organ on/in your body, and it's highly absorbable. That's why there's such thing as birth control patches and patches to help you quit smoking. Your skin absorbs everything you put on it. So you should be wary of the chemicals in hair dye, especially during the first trimester.

I would speak to your OB/GYN about your concern. I asked to highlight my hair during this pregnancy ( I am almost 8 months pregnant) and the doctor said wait until I was in the 2nd trimester. You shouldn't really do anything during the 1st trimester.

GOOD LUCK!

Generally, pregnant women are advised to avoid any kind of chemicals or fumes. The reason for this stems from concerns about possible physical birth defects and/or genetic defects induced in the fetus. Some chemicals are known to cause birth defects when a woman is exposed to them while pregnant. The chemical interferes in some way with the normal bio-chemical reactions that take place in fetal development. For most substances, we do not know exactly how teratogenetic (the medical term for something that causes birth defects) they are. Obviously, no one wants to try them on a group of pregnant women and find out!
HENNA is a safe way to "dye" your hair - it's not permanent but lasts several months. There are some dark hennas or you could mix henna with black tea.
There are also some natural methods for hair dyeing - just google "Natural Hair Dyes" I did this while nursing - for blonde highlights (I found chamomile and calendula works well, but you would have to look up how to dye brown.)

I'm not 100% clear on your request but I think you are asking if it's OK to "color" your hair throughout pregnancy? If so, then I'd have to say why not just dye it back to your original hair color and not waorry about it? That way you won't have to worry about your roots and you can enjoy (getting pregnant) your pregnancy.

Best of luck!

My youngest is 11, so things may have changed. However, my OB/GYN strongly advised against coloring my hair during the pregancy and breastfeeding.

just last year the american board of OB/GYNs just made hair color safe for pregnant women. just be sure you are in a well ventilated space when having it done. you can google this info if you like.

There's really no reason to not color your hair while you are pregnant. You just have to do it in a well ventilated area. The fumes are the worst thing. Hair dye does not go through your skin. If it did your scalp would be dyed along with your hair. If you feel like it's a bad idea though, why don't you get your hair frosted so that the white will blend in as it grows out. Good luck getting pregnant. :)

There is not really a lot of evidence on this subject pointing that it is good or bad. Either way, every time you did your roots you would be risking the chemicals from the hair dye somehow seeping in and making it to the fetus. My doctor said to use ammonia free hair dye and after the first trimester when I was pregnant so I colored my hair once in the nine months, I felt this was a small risk. As for doing it every three weeks the entire time you are pregnant, I wouldn't take that chance. It seems like a little much, maybe you could go with your natural hair color until after you have the baby? And while you are pregnant and taking all the prenatal pills and eating good, you hair will probably grow even faster.

And another thing to think about, while you are pregnant your hormones change significantly, this can also affect teh color which you dye your hair, so you're also risking a hair color disaster.

Good Luck with getting pregnant!!
