We are buying a new house and will need to buy a washer and dryer! I have never had to do this before and have no clue what I am doing... So I am looking for some advise from all of you. We have not yet deciced on top or front load style so we are open to either. What kinds of washer do you have and what do you love, like or hate about them??? Also if you have purchased recently where did you go?

Thanks so much

What can I do next?

We just purchased a Kenmore elite front load washer and dryer and I love, love, love them. The clothes come out of the washer almost dry because of the strong spin cycle and the dryer has a sensor so it turns off when the clotes are done. We went to Sears to purchase them both.

I hope this helps!

My set is a few years old now and is not on the market anymore, but it is Whirlpool Calypso which was replaced by another Whirlpool model. I can't think of the name, but it starts with a C. I purchased it at Sears, and Sears will match anybody's price and I think throw in a discount to boot if you prove another store's price was lower to begin with. The main thing is to consider the features your family's needs. I went with a top load that works like a front loader because I use spray stain pre-treaters over the open washer tub. I don't understand how you can control that mess with a front loader?! I also didn't want to have to bend down to the washer door on a front-loader and I don't get the funky smell that front-loaders get. I like the automatic water level feature, that's a good no-brainer! If you do massive loads, or have large comforters, sleeping bags, etc to wash, look for a large tub and an even larger dryer drum. I would not get a washer that has a center post in the tub that limits washing capacity and gets things tangled on the center post. Look for soap dispensers, dryer screens, and exterior features that are easy to clean! Consider the make up of your family and their activites. I have two daughters so I made sure to get a washer that has delicate, hand wash, and quick wash cycles! I have lots of dance costume pieces, gymnastics leotards, bras, dresses, swim team swimsuits, hand wash only and wash seperately items to wash! Sometimes last minute, so that's why I got a "quick wash" feature too! If you have boys, you won't care about those features so much. You'll want something that can wash heavy duty loads of jeans, maybe a good system for running bleach for sports jerseys. If the man in the house or you wear dress clothes to work, you'll want more delicate features. If he does more blue-collar work, you'll want more heavy duty features. Consider who or how you can get repairs done when needed when deciding where to purchase from. I would stay away from Pascal-Fiskar brand. I have never known anyone to be happy with them! I know there are lots of beautiful colors on the market, but hopefully it will last you a long time and white never goes out of style! Hope this helps!

Love my front load. I have a small laundry room and wanted the ability to stack. I highly recommend Warners Stellian. I always thought they were just high end but they carry all ranges and can be very helpful. The only thing you will want to watch on the front loads (and everyone will tell you this) is that you have to leave the washer door open, wipe the seal down when you are done washing clothes and run a cleaner through the tub once in a while. Otherwise you get a musty smell. They are quiet though and some have some really cool features now.

I would highly recommend Kenmore from Sears -- my in-laws bought us a set for a wedding gift 13 years ago and they are still going strong! Sears also offers great financing options.

I'm partial to top load washers for several reasons: 1) they have been a tried and true option forever; 2) they now have more efficient styles (which is the main selling point of front loads); 3) I have heard many horror stories about front loads - i.e. they smell, and we have a friend who had three shirts ripped to shreds by their front load; 4) you cannot add items to the load once the cycle has started because (for obvious reasons) the door locks in place on the front loaders; 5) I love the soak cycle of top loads and haven't seen any front loaders with that.

Good luck! It's a big purchase. Someday I will have to replace my beloved old set, but they will definitely be Kenmore from Sears!
