I did Avent and loved them. Can you get away with less bottles. If you stay at home, you'll just have to wash more often. I usually only had 4 bottles at a time.
Hi ladies,
I am about 2 weeks away from having my second child and I just returned all of my old bottles (Avent) to Babies R Us for a store credit because of the whole BPA issue. I was planning to just purchase new Avent bottles, but I could not believe the price! It is $10 for ONE 4-oz. bottle! I don't remember them being that expensive when I had my daughter 2 years ago. I turned in 10 bottles and got a credit for $27. I was floored at the price difference and am having a hard time justifying buying 10 bottles for $100.
Anyway, while I was there, I looked at Dr. Brown's bottles - I know some people that swear by them, but I guess my main concern is that I know cleaning them can be a little more time consuming (because of all the extra parts) than the Avent bottles.
Anyone out there have anything to say about Avent vs. Dr. Brown's? Or maybe another brand of bottle? Also, if you do use Dr. Brown's, can you get them clean enough by putting all the parts in the dishwasher?
Thanks!

I use the plain old Evenflo bottles that are 3 for $3. They are BPA free. I was using the drop-in bottles because the cleaning was very easy and they deflate as the baby drinks so the baby gets less air but we had to switch because of medical issues with my son (long story. He does just fine with the plain old cheap bottles and he doesn't seem to have an issue with getting too much air. I wish I would have saved all the money I spent on the drop-in bottles and just started with the inexpensive one.
Good luck and Congratulations. The 29th is just around the corner....
I didn't know you could return bottles from 2 years ago? Can you share more information?
I used the Dr. Brown's also. I bought a couple of the gift sets when they had a 15% of coupon, so I had upwards of 20 bottles. Worked well since I would take about 3-4 each day to daycare, and then have the next day's bottles already loaded up. That way I would only have to wash bottles every 2-3 days. Usually Tue/Wed and then Fri/Sat.
Regarding cleaning - they would quickly rinse them at day care and then I would bring them home and dump them in a container of water. Then in the evening (or the next day or two) I would hand wash them in batches. They are a bit more time consuming due to the extra parts, but my daughter never spit up or had a gas problem, so I think it was worth it. I never tried the dishwasher, but I did sanitize them about once a month in a pot of boiling water, just to be sure.
I also never had them leak, like some people complain about.
Congratulations on the new baby! I have twins (which used a lot of bottles) and used the Dr. Brown's bottles until they finally let them go when they were around 2 1/2. We loved them and didn't have any difficulty with cleaning. We rinsed when they were done and then ran them through the dishwasher. We bought a couple of the baskets that go on the top of your dishwasher and put the pieces in them. Really no trouble.
I used glass bottles for our baby. Just a sugesstion... Good luck to you!
Hi Katerine. I've used Dr. Brown's for about 8 months now and I really like them. I don't think the extra parts make it hard to clean and they do fine in the dishwasher. the only time I've had trouble is if you forget to clean the bottle out for a while and then, like any other bottle, takes a little scrubbing. Also, my baby burps really quickly afterwards and has never had a problem with trapped air. Make sure you use the Dr. Brown's nipples with the bottles becuase other ones make the bottle leak.
Congrats and good luck with your new baby!
