I just found this article online about FREE prenatals:

I can't afford my prescription prenatal vitamins anymore. I need a prenatal vitamin to take while breastfeeding. I would like it to have DHA. Thanks!

My doctor has told me that prenatals are the best vitamins a women can take even when you are not pregnant or breastfeeding. I have been taking the Sam's Club prental's for over two years now and never had an issue. They are also very inexpensive.
I took the Target brand with both pregnancies and my doctor said that they were a great choice. They don't have a "vitamin taste" to them and although they were big didn't bother me at all! The biggest plus was that they were very inexpensive!
Hi M.,
I highly recommnd Rainbow Lite's food based prenatals. You take 6 a day - 2 pills 3 times a day. Being food based and taking them throughout the day really helps with their absorption. You can get them at Whole Foods.
Good luck!

I took the prescription with my first and with my second my doctor actually said one of the other patients brought in a bottle of the Walmart or Sam's brand of prenatal vitamins and they had the SAME ingredients/levels of everything. He told me to just get a bottle of those unless I liked paying $30/month for vitamins! Compare for yourself - you'll save a ton of money and they work just the same.
I use the Stuart pre-natal vitamins - they are in a purple bottle and you can get them at CVS. I think they are around $27 and I have never had a problem taking them (no upset stomach or reactions or anything). I have used them for two pregnancies.

I take Finest Prenatal Complete, Caplets which I purchased at Walgreens for $16.99. It hasn't bothered my stomach.
I am breastfeeding and taking the otc walmart vitamins. I also take Expecta Lipil with DHA.
M.,
Kroger Pharmacy (and probably Walmart too) now carries a generic prenatal vitamin. They are $4 for a 30 day supply. That's probably even cheaper than some OTC brands!!!
These are the two I found:
NATALCARE PIC TAB generic for NIFEREX PN TAB
and NATALCARE PLUS TAB generic for STUARTNATAL PLUS TAB
Call your OB and ask for a prescription for either of these. We have our Rx's filled at the Mansfield Kroger, and they are really good about calling your Dr FOR YOU in these instances. You might stop by a Kroger pharmacy and talk to the pharmacist.
M.,
No one really needs a prescription pre-natal vitamin (unless they are anorexic or way lacking certain vit/min, etc). You can find a ton of OTC pre-natals at places like GNC or Vitamin Shoppe. There really are a million of them for sale and many (if not most) will have DHA. However, if you are super concerned about DHA, you can always just increase your intake of Omega 3's...fish (tuna especially), and many others will help. But check out a vitamin shoppe.
Hi M.,
I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have been taking One Source prenatal vitamins that I found at Walmart.
They're not expensive, I believe around $6 is what I payed.
Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy.
