When I found out I was pregnant my doctor had me wait until I was ten weeks before they wanted to see me. At that appointment we had our first sonogram, so maybe that is why they wanted you to wait, anyways good luck!
I just spoke to my doctor's nurse regarding my "morning sickness" and then they realized they scheduled my first appt. w/the wrong doctor. So they wanted to reschedule me with my regular doctor. This is the kicker, it's not until my 10th week...this would my FIRST appt.!!! I feel really upset and not knowing what to do...help me..should I be okay with this (I'm a bit hormonal so I don't know if I'm reacting) or go elsewhere???
Thanks so much for your advice. My mind is at rest knowing all this! Thank goodness for you girls!!

10 weeks is pretty standard. Some won't even see you at that point -- only the PA sees you. I wouldn't sweat it. It's not like they would really be doing anything other than some preliminary bloodwork, etc.
Hi L.,
Im just 13 weeks pregnant and had my first appt on Monday (mine was a little later because I had just had my annual exam when we discovered I was pregnant). Everything was great - got to actually see the baby's heartbeat and everything looked good. But I have to admit, I was uncomfortable, nervous, and paranoid up until I saw the baby - what if Im not really pregnant (although I had horrid morning sickness), what if something is wrong, etc. Normal hormonal stuff (and reading too much of what is on the internet! :-)). Its normal to be nervous, and I think you will get a lot more out of a 10 week appointment then you would anything earlier. Take note of what you want to talk to the doctor about and call the nurse whenever you have concerns.
I hope this helps. Congratulations!!!

I wasn't seen until the 10th week with my third pregnancy. I had some bad m/s so they did prescribe something for me before that, though.
Actually, 10 weeks is a pretty good time to go in....they might even be able to find a heartbeat around then. I understand that you are feeling sick though, so if it is serious, meaning you cant keep anything down for more than a day or so, you should insist on being seen. Otherwise, there really is not much that they do in those first check ups anyway. You can request a prenatal vitamin be called in for you, be sure that you let them know you arent feeling good though, so that you can get one that is easier to take. I tend to wait to make my appointments until I am 10-12 weeks anyway, so I am sure that you should be fine. But as always, if there is something specific that you are concerned about, insist that you get in!! Good luck..I am on the other end and about to deliver, so I can feel for you!! ~A.~
I am also pregnant and have my first appointment tomorrow, which is at 10 weeks for me. They did, however let me go in a few weeks ago just for the blood draw. It was only with the nurse and the doctor just said Hi. Anyway, this is totally normal. As you already did though, be sure to call them anytime before if you have issues. Congratulations.
Unless you are high-risk, I think this is becoming more normal. If you are not okay with it though...say something. Tell them you need to be reassured all is good if you are nervous, and you would appreciate an appointment sooner. Unless there is an insurance issue, there should be no reason they don't see you sooner. Go with how you feel and be seen sooner if that is what you feel you need.
