Need to Replace Vacuum and Im So Lost

I had a water filtrations vacuum that i loved (Hyla- very expensive that i got persuaded into buying) for the last 10 years. Its not working for the last few weeks, hoping the next time i turn it on, it will magically be all better. I bought a clearance once from Bed Bath & Beyond and that is being returned. I have a 4 bedroom house (only 2 are occupied and the 3rd is a playroom). The whole house is tile, and no stairs and I like to vacuum once a week.

I would like an upright, so i dont have a canister following me around (the thing i hated about the hyla- and the adding water to it) so its easy to get going. I only need 1 attachment, so once a month i try to get all the corners, cobwebs and ceiling. There are thousands of vacuums on the market and Im SO Confused.

From what i have read so far, I like Oreck from what i have read and it has good warranty. Right now you can get an upright and an additional handheld canister for dusting and cobwebs for $299 and get 15% off. That is max max max what i want to spend, but i will on a good quality one. I dont need it to look pretty (why oreck doesnt bother me) and dont need alot of extra bells & Whistles. What about Hoover, Dyson, Shark, Dirt Devil, etc. What has worked for you?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I looked at Consumer reports for the last 2 years. According to them, several $100-$180 Hoovers perform just as well as the more expensive ones and much more inexpensive, for my needs. The winner is T-Series™ WindTunnel® Rewind Plus Bagless Upright (UH70120) on sale for $99. I like to see the dirt im picking up and throw it away than hididng it in a bag haha. Now to find it in a local store. Thanks for your help!

I went through like 3 cheap vacuums in 3 yrs. until I finally broke down and bought a dyson. IT is the best. I have the Dyson ball (small version) I live in a small space and have carpet and lynoleum. It works well on either and you don't have to change settings or anything to go from one to the other. Also to add the "wand" attachment for cob-webs etc takes about 2 sec.
What I really love is that is picks up so much dust etc. We moved into an older apt. several months ago with some pretty terrible carpet. Anyway, this thing just sucks everything right out of it. Amazing.
My mom has a large house and 3 cats and she has the dyson pet, she loves it. It is much heavier though they my little ball, but they drive very easily and dumping the canister takes no time at all.
Worth it.

The Oreck worked very well. In fact, I used it over A Kirby that was supposedly retailing for $1600, but sold on Ebay for $300+75 shipping. My elderly neighbor's cleaning crew use the Oreck at her house and refuse to use the Miele canister with all the attachments because it is heavy and bulky.
I bought a Shark navigator for $150 at Walmart. I hate how it wiggles and I hate emptying the cup. My husband uses it now.
I did see many almost new vacuums at the place that repairs vacuums.
People who don't pay for repairs and pick them up forfeit them after 30 days.

I had an Oreck for over 10 years and never had to repair it once. I own a golden retriever that sheds so much and no matter what I did the bag would smell. I tried washing the cover and the smell would come back. I decided to try the Dyson and I cannot tell you the difference. I was an Oreck lover until I used my Dyson and you would not believe what it picked up. I had just vacuumed the house with the Oreck and used the Dyson the next day. I had to empty the canister twice with all of the dog hair that had been left behind. So I have to say I am a huge Dyson fan now. It is expensive but sooo worth it.

I have to add another vote for the Dyson. I have two dogs and have to vaccuum daily. It is amazing how much the Dyson still sucks up each day.

I have an Oreck and LOVE it. Mine is one of the higher end models, 10 yr warranty, free cleaning/maintainence once a year, HEPA filter, SO lightweight and it came with the smaller canister for cobwebs, etc. I LOVE the canister as well.

I have about 4000+ sq feet and before Oreck, I had a Hoover upstairs and a Hoover downstairs so I didn't have to lug something up and down. The Hoovers are not bad, still in working order and my backup if something happens to the Oreck.

The Oreck works great on my steps, tile and wood areas. I love the canister because I just put the strap on my shoulder and go through the house with it.

Both have decent cord length so there is no a lot of stopping to re-plug so you can finish everything.

My Oreck does a great job, I have very long hair as does daughter plus we have 3 dogs and this thing continues to run very well.

I got mine about 4 yrs ago, paid around $1000 and the salesman threw in the bags.

My mom has a Dyson and althought she says it works well on her mostly wood floors, she says it is very heavy and she hates it.

My upstairs vacuum is an Oreck and I love it for getting under beds since it can lay almost completely flat. My downstair vacuum is a Dyson which I like because of the attached hose. This comes in handy to clean my wood blinds and under my kitchen cabinets. I love how light weight the Oreck is and I don't like the heaviness of the Dyson but they both serve their purpose.
Also, I got the Oreck handheld canister for free with the Oreck purchase and I never use it. It is not a great vacuum and it is inconvenient for me to use.

Since your whole house is tile have you checked out the Oreck Orbitor? I love it for scrubbing my tile floor although it does not pick up water so I have to steam mop or use a regular mop to get up the dirty water.

I LOVE my Dyson! Easy to use, no bags to replace and hasn't given us one bit of trouble in the 6+ years that we have had it. When my friends are in a dilemma over which vacuum to buy, I let them borrow my Dyson and they get hooked too. :-)

Love my Dyson. Wouldn't trade it...I have carpeting, tile and wood floors and I use it everywhere.
