Hi! I posted this request a while ago and received one response-which was great-but wanted to see if there were any other opinions. I need to lose weight and try as I might I cannot seem to stay on a diet. I am looking for a weight loss doctor or if anyone has tried any of these so called diet pills that work..I'd love to hear about it. My husband and children are all really thin. Not that we shouldn't eat healthy...but right or wrong they still love the good stuff. It's just so tiresome to cook 2 different meals every day. Anyway...anybody have any suggestions? Thanks so much for you help.

Hello I don't know of any doctors or pills but I can tell you I know it is hard. I have a 18 month old son and I still haven't lost my weight either. And I refuse to buy new clothes so I look at my close that I don't fit into everyday. Well my advice is stop making two meals, just eat healty. I know about loving the good stuff but it really is all about portions. DO NOT eat a full plate of food and insead of eating fries eat fruit. I did take some pills I found at walmart that seemed to help a little I forget exactly but they had tea extract in them. Sorry I could not be more help. But remember eat small portions, you can do it. I am 5 lbs away from my prepregnacy weight and it has only taken me so long cause I don't stop myself when I should. But know I am pregnant again so here I go again. Good luck

I just wanted to suggest Weight Watchers, because it's REALLY helped me... I joined online about 5 months ago, and in the beginning it was hard to stick to the points system because you have to record everything you put in your mouth. But, I was determined to stick with it, and to do that I bought a 3 month membership and made a commitment NOT to waste my $65 and blow the diet. It's totally changed the way I eat, and I can still eat whatever I like, I just don't overdo it anymore. I was 210lbs when I started, and I'm now 182. That's 28 lbs in less than 5 months, and I've gone from a size 16 (squeezing into 16) to a size 10/12.

I've also started working out as much as time allows, because I am a single working mom of a 19 month old. But now that my DD is at a daycare closer to home, it's much easier for me to drop her off at daycare and hit the gym before work. So now I have no excuses. I do about 20-30 minutes of cardio and then split up the remaining 20-30 minutes between weights and abs.... I alternate days to work on my upper body and lower body, and do the abs every day that I'm in the gym.

But the key is really to watch what you're putting in your mouth, and how much. Also, planning. Planning your meals is essential because then you're not scrambling around trying to find something at the last minute and end up scarfing down a bunch of food because you're starving by the time you get it. Also, I've learned that planning a weekly dinner menu helps. It helps not only with weight loss, but budget-wise as well. You only shop for what you need and don't end up roaming the aisles (I do that alot)....

Good Luck! :)

Hi, I just started the figure 8 diet plan with Arbonne. I'm a representative for them and was trying to lose weight. I felt great with it. I lost 6 pounds my first week and didn't feel hungry. It wasn't hard at all. Really, I found a great way to incorporate the shakes to make me feel really full. If you would like to learn about it, you can visit www.arbonne.com. I'm an independent consultant, so if you would like to try it, you can order from me. Just contact me back and I'll give you an idea of what I did. I wouldn't suggest it if it wasn't good, but I've tried a lot of diets too and it really has been working. Another thing you can do is weight resistance or weight training. Both are supposed to be great for losing weight.

Hi A. - I feel your pain! Trust me!! My kids are each a few months yonger that yours. It is so hard to find the time to think about your health in any way. Recently the results of my cholesterol test scared the "you know what" out of me...I tried to cook two separate meals for a while, but decided that their health is as important as mine.

So, we started small...Grilling more with light marinades, veggies, brown rice instead of white, whole wheat pasta instead of the regular. Lots of fruit and whole/raw foods. I've been slowly modifying one part of the meal at a time so they get used to small changes. I've been amazed at how presentation has so much to do with it all! Especially for kids like making faces with the food or using cookie cutters...etc. Then you don't feel left out and your kids think they are getting treats all along.

Luckily a Lady of America Gym opened on my corner, they have free child care, lots of classes (puts you on a schedule so it's harder to back-out), and circuit training (this makes your time at the gym much shorter). I'm enjoying it so much, and I've NEVER liked to excersize!!!!

Please let me know how it goes, and good luck!!! A.

Hi A., just saw your post and thought I would share what is working for me. I did two 9 day detoxification programs and went from 176 to 158 in 24 days, that is 18 pounds. I had been on phentermine on and off over the years, but it did raise my blood pressure, made me short-tempered with everyone and it can be addicting. It also stops working after a while. I then tried this detox program that did wonders for my husband's boss' wifes father who I had met 3 years ago. He was very overweight. They got him on this program and he has lost a lot of weight and has energy to burn. His doctor said it saved his life and he was taken off 3 of the 4 blood pressure meds he was on. If you want to try a natural way with natural energy that works, let me know. It is a healthy approach and getting rid of toxins allows your body to function so you can lose weight. ____@____.com

Hi A.,
I understand your frustration. However, I worked for the American Heart Association for 5 years, reading all sorts of research about diet and nutrition. The fact is that the keys to losing weight are increasing your metabolism (exercise), making sure your calories COUNT (cut sweets and empty calories, replace them with foods rich in nutrients and fiber), and burning more calories than you consume (again, exercise, or at least modifying your diet to your current activity level).
These lifestyle changes are hard, but taking it in small steps might make it more doable. You can start by cutting out sweets and watching your portions. Personally, when I practice portion control, I can drop 3-5 pounds pretty quickly. Cutting sweets is hard, but replacing the bowl of M&Ms with a bowl of grapes is a start. Or have just one scoop of ice cream instead of 2 or 3.
Exercise is the hardest thing to add in, but you probably have 30 min somewhere if you look hard enough. You could take a walk before your husband leaves for work, or hit the door after dinner while he spends time with the kids.
This isn't to say that supplements or pills aren't helpful -- they might help you drop a few pounds at first and get you motivated to continue -- but many diet pills are dangerous. In lieu of pills, there are some great programs that promote healthy weight loss. Weight Watchers is probably the best program around. You can work it into your current lifestyle without having to cook separate meals, etc.

I prepare veggies by blanching them and freezing them so it's super easy to make dinners, I just grab a bag out of the freezer. I'll also make a turkey or chicken and freeze the slicings for quick snacks later. (This equates to one day in the kitchen... but it pays off throughout the week) Search the internet, it will tell you how to blanch each veggie. Plus, instead of snacking on junk food (like I used to b/c it's so easy) I keep a bowl on my counter with fruit, preztels, granola bars... and I keep cut up veggies in zip lock bags in the fridge. Oh, and lots of string cheese and yogurt! And when I need my "medicine" I have a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips, I grab a couple of morsels throughout the day (i eat the whole bag in about a week) Or, I melt some and dip preztels in it! This is better than eating candy bars and stuff. Snacking on healthy food throughout the day cuts down on the "portion" problem around mealtime, and it keeps you energized. Plus, it may help the rest of the family learn healthier eating habits too, so it's easier on you.

Hi A.! I have many friends that are on a program with a doctor in Kingston,Ok and they are seeing amazing results. This doctor chooses one of the three prescriptions that he thinks suits each individual and also gives B12 injections with them. You go in twice a month and it is $60/visit. If you cannot go twice a month then you can opt to get a month supply for $30 more which would run you $90/month but with that option you would only get the B12 once per month. I have three friends who have all lost 22-34lbs each in one month. It has really worked when nothing else would. I am currently trying to find a local doctor that does this same program. If I find anything I would be glad to share the info. Who knows? Maybe I'll see ya there one day. Good luck! I know how hard it can be. It is a daily struggle for me. I just LOVE food TOO much!!!
