Hi, I am a brand new empty nester. My last one just moved out--the older ones are 12 yrs. apart so I've been parenting 31 yrs and we are expecting first grandchild in a few mos. Am ready to just getaway for a weekend camping with my husband and we need recommendation. Want to rent a popup camper or 5th wheel for a weekend--Does a business rent those? Also--open to suggestions of a nice campout spot within 1 hour of Arlington. Just need a peaceful weekend--we live on a busy traffic corner near Martin High School.Thank you:)

Joe Pool Lake has Loyd Park (Grand Prairie), Lynn Creek Park (Grand Prairie) and Cedar Hill State Park in Cedar Hill. Loyd park is more rustic and smaller than the others. Cedar Hill State Park offers great sunset views over the lake! All 3 offer some good fishing if you like and have swimming areas if you dare! Good luck and happy camping!

The Texas State Park system is awesome! Incredible for relaxing. I'd suggest Purtis Creek State Park in Eustace. You head east on Interstate 20 and take the east Hwy. 175 exit. Continue east to Eustace. It's within an hour of Arlington. You can make reservations online at Texas Parks and Wildlife website, or they have a reservation call line. The website will also help you if you'd like to rent one of the cabins instead of a pop-up or 5th wheel. The cabin rentals are very reasonably priced (usually around $65), but not all of the state parks have them.
Joe Pool Lake is close to Arlington as well, and I've heard it's nice, but haven't checked it out personally. My husband likes to fish the smaller lakes. Joe Pool is around I20 and Hwy 67 south of I20, around Cedar Hill.
Another nice Texas State Park within an hour is Mineral Wells State Park. Just head west on Interstate 20.
Enjoy your empty nest! It's fantastic!

I'm sure you've gotten a lot of responses by now. You can rent RV's. Not sure of websites, we have our own, but you can always google DFW RV rentals and see what pops up. There are 2 great places in & near Arlington to go!! Both are at Joe Pool Lake. You can go to the Joe Pool Lake State Park in Grand Prairie I believe, that's a nice one, and the other is off of 360. I think it's called ....Lynn Park. It's a private day/camp park and it is a very nice one too. My in laws go to one or the other for 50% of the summer. Another nice place to get away is about 2 hours from here, Possum Kingdom Lake State Park!! We went there annually as a child-teenager, and I loved it! At dusk deer come out, and you can hand feed them! The lake is beautiful, and if you like scenic drives, just driving in the hills around the lake is beautiful. Just a couple of ideas for you! Enjoy!

This is about two hours away, but it is a great spot. Turner falls- it's in the davis mountains and is a wonderful place. They have camping sites and cabins if you want to rent one. The landscape is beautiful, and the color of the water is amazing. It costs little, and you can hike, swim or wade. I think it's open year round, but google it to make sure of the entrance fee and cost to camp. Have a big time wherever you decide to go! W.

Hello,

I hear that Mineral wells has a nice state park/camping area. My brother goes all the time. I have gone to Loyd Park, which is on Joe Pool. My favorite place is at Possum Kingdom State Park. It is about an 1 1/2 hour drive but it will spoil you and other places are not as nice. You can feed the deer in the evenings and the scenery is awesome!!!! I highly recomened Possum Kingdom Lake. We are going to buy a camper and have already stated looking. I can tell you that Camping World off of 35 South going toward Waco is outragously expensive! We have litterly looked all over the Metroplex and the best place so far is across the street from Camping world and in Cleburne.Anyway best of luck!

We love to camp with our two kids at the Dinosaur Park in Glen Rose. There is a lovely campground just outside of Cleburne with a nice, quiet lake. Also, Lake Mineral Wells is pretty with LOTS of lake creature noises at night! Check the Texas State Parks web site for lots of information and suggestions - have fun!

Don't know about places to rent trailers but do know that there are places to rent them. Two states parks come to mind for quiet. Meridian, east of Waco, nice small, walsing trails large trees and small lake. They have screened shelters if you can't rent a popup. You would need bedding and an inflatable mattress. And Dinosaur Valley at Glen Rose. nice stream/ river to walk along and trails and there is nice shopping ,antqus etc. in town. My family and I have loved both places. Clser to home is Cedat Hill state park but since the lake is so big don't know about how quiet a place it is. Enjoy and have fun. My husband and I spent a wonderful week this last fall diving small roads back and forth across the 35 cossidor from Dallas to gruene Texas and thne back north thru LBJ country. It was great to back in Texas. Check the Texas State Parks and Wildlife site for other places to camp. TPWD.state.tx.us

I don't have advice on the pop up trailer but if you check out Glenrose Texas on the computer you will find that it is only 1 hour from here and offers many affordable and surprisingly beautiful cabins/lodges and/or camping places. They have dinosaur valley which is lovely and the new dinosaur exibit which just opened. Hiking, camping, canoeing, wildlife park where you can feed the animals. Alot of this may sound too juvenile for what you are wanting but if you just check it out you will be so surprised that all this is so close! Especially with gas prices what they are!

I don't know of any places to rent campers but I would think that there would be...
However, try Tres Rios in Glen Rose...they are a perfect camping ground and they have all size cabins to rent if you don't have a camper. They sit right on the river and it is beautiful down there...they keep the campgrounds in great condition and they are just very nice people down there...
We have had our family reunion down there every year for the last 7 or so years...
I am sorta in your place...my oldest will be 22 on monday and I am expecting my first grandchild with her this summer. She married a great guy about a year and a half ago..my son is 12 and still plays little league baseball which my husband coaches..about the time my son gets into high school sports my grandson will be starting t-ball..and me and my daughter opened a "bounce house" facility in Crowley nearly a year ago...good luck with your business and with finding a peaceful weekend

My husband and I honeymooned six months ago at RV Ranch in Burleson. We stayed in one of their cabins which was very nice, but they also had places for campers. The website is www.rv-ranch.com.

I haven't been there yet, but Cedar Hill has nice campgrounds by Joe Pool Lake (acording to friends)- so close to Arlington it's practically in arlington! Also I hear there are nice campgrounds in Grapevine where dinosaur tracks were found about a year ago.

My brother use to take the weekends and take his camper to Joe Pool Lake. Apparently there is a camping area there. Don't know about renting pop up campers though. Sorry. Enjoy your rest!

Hi roberta, my name is S. and yes you can rent rv or popups. One of the best places is frederiskburg i hope i spelled it correctly. There is lots to do. There is a koa grounds nearby where you can park your rv and go into town and just have lots of fun. There is a wonderful german restaurant in town that we go out of our way to visit. It is near the edge of town on the way out. It has an outdoor patio. And of course there is always glenrose or granbury. But wherever you end up enjoy.
