Where to Camp with Small Children?

I have two and four year old boys, and would like to start introducing them to camping. I'd like our first few experiences to be some place with conviences - showers, sites with electrical and water, etc. I'm buying my husband a tent for father's day and hopefully his parents will ship most of his camping stuff out here (he was an Eagle scout), so we should be pretty well off as far as equipment goes. Because of the unpredictable nature of small children, I'd like to stay within 5 hours of Fort Worth. I was looking at Dinosaur SP but while it lists river swimming, I couldn't tell from the map if it actually had swimming available (and swimming is a must). We like to hike too, but nothing as challenging as Mineral Wells SP (which is primarily our reason for NOT going there). Does anyone have some tried and true suggests for campgrounds or tips for camping with small children?
Thank you!

We camp ALOT and usually stay close to home and go to Cedar Hill State Park at Joe Pool Lake. Very nice and very clean! Their bathrooms and showers are probably cleaner than mine at home! LOL! We used to tent camp there, now we have a travel trailor but all 4 kids usually would rather use the showers there instead of the camper so that tells you they must be nice! We also like Loyd park on Joe Pool but the state parks are always a little cleaner and they are stricter about the noise and alcohol so you really feel safer with your kiddos! As far as Dinosaur Valley, we went to Glen Rose 3 wks ago and stayed right down from there. It was called Oakdale Park. When we 1st got there I was a little scared at the way it looked but the next morning it was fine. They had a huge swimming pool there, bathrooms and showers(not the cleanest but served the purpose)We were in out trailor but they had plenty of tent camp spots and cabins. It was about a 2 minute walk across the street to the river wich was really cool for the kids and adults. Swimming and fishing were good there and there is a snowcone stand AND no alcohol is permited(the had a sherrif watching the whole wknd) Our kids said that was their favorite camping spot so far! Have fun!

You can try Dinosaur Valley State Park. It is a beautiful park. However, I don't remember if there is a swimming pool. Good Luck!!

I forgot the name of the place we went, but it had like small shed type places for us to sleep in and just walking distance to the restroom. It had running water and electricity at the campsite. Now here is my mishap that happened while we were camping. I said it had a shed type building well me 21 month figured out how to open the door. Well the morning of our last day, my sister and mom went to the RR and apparently woke him up but didnt notice. So they went on the RR and didn't wake up me or my husband, so my son got out of the bed opened the door and started walking around the camp area. It was 40 degrees out side and he was just in his pj. Luckily my aunt and uncle were camping with us too and they saw him and came pounding on the door, it if wasn't for my uncle my son would have probably walked to the little creek behind our camp ground. So if you are a sound sleeper I would recomened either sleeping at the door or locking it or pulling the zipper way at the top! But have fun, I am sure its just my crazy kids who are always trying to give me a heart attack!

We just came back from camping at Oak Park. It is at Navarro Mills lake by Corsicana, Tx. It doesn't have much for hiking, but has a great swimming area. They offer campsites w/water & electricity hookups. Each site also has a covered picnic table (concrete) They have two shower/bathroom buildings that are pretty clean. It is also heavily wooded so the shade is great!

Ray Roberts Lake (Pilot Point side) is a beautiful lake and has a beach w/swimming, playgrounds, electric, water, showers, ect. We have camped there many times and have enjoyed it tremendously. It is located just north of Sanger (about an hour north of FW).
