Need to Get a Safety Mesh Net Around My Pool in the Backyard

Hello Moms! I have a pool in my backyard and my twin boys are beginning to walk now. So I would like to take precaution and put a safety net around my pool. Do you have recommendations for company names who do this? ALso, someone mentioned to me about safety covers over the pool. So, either of the option should work...would prefer the one that costs less!

What can I do next?

Google Katch-a-kid. I just had one installed and think it is great. The 800 number will give you the name of a local installer. They also have fences but we opted for the net. After a couple of times, it will take you 4-5 min to take it off and about 7 to put it on. It gave me enormous piece of mind. I now have no worries when my son is outside by the pool.

We also used Katchakid and are very pleased. They do both nets and fences so you can get bids on both. We went with the fence, mostly because of ease of use. I didn't know how I was going to get the net back on every time we were done swimming when I had a then 1, 3, and 5 year old running around.

They were so professional and even ended up saving me money, by figuring out a way to reroute the gate. My twin girls have tried to run into it with their trikes and it still holds up. When they are older it can be taken down and they gave us plugs that match the concrete to fill up the holes. I highly recommend them and getting a fence!

We had a Katchakid net installed on our pool recently. We are still getting used to learning how to put it on and take it off but it only takes 5 minutes or so (for us newbies). It does work, my 2 sons were feeling the water one evening while we were outside and the 3 yr old fell forward and went face first into the pool. But the net caught him and saved him. He was wet, but he didn't fall in. Our neighbor said their daughter used to crawl across it but she stopped quickly as it hurt her knees.

We installed a Pool Guard fence (for our now 19 month old daughter), and I was so impressed with their product that I started selling it in DFW. We have a great removable mesh fence product with a lifetime warranty. If you are interested in a free estimate, please don't hesitate to contact me. ###-###-####.

My children are grown now, but we had a pool when they were little. Please take your children to swim lessons. No matter how much safety precautions you have there are always accidents. We took our boys to Richland Junior College - they offered "lessons" starting at 6 months. They taught the children/babies to turn around and come to the edge and climb out. The last lesson the kids went into the pool in their clothes - including shoes. The instructors said when accidents happen, kids are normally in clothes and the weight surprises them and they forget what to do! The lessons saved my middle son -there was an accident and he fell into our pool in the winter - through the cover (above ground pool, the spot had ice damage we couldn't see-sure things are better today - this was 23 years ago) He came to the edge of hole in the cover. He was 3. His 5 year old brother was crawling around the ledge of the pool with the scimmer pole when I spotted them. (I had gone inside to check dinner - thinking they were safe since we had a cover) Using a scimmer pole was in the movie that was shown at the last lesson. It was aimed at parent's but obviously he had paid attention. Our son was fine and went on to swim on swim teams so no emotional problems either. Just don't let your guard down because you have "safety precautions".

I cannot tell you how safe and secure we feel with our pool cover. We have twins as well and had this installed right before they started walking. This net works with tension so there is no way a child can even get their face in the water if it is installed correctly. It takes a few practice sessions to learn how to get it on and off, but is easy once you do it a few times. it literally takes my husband 8 minutes to take it off.

We have the mesh fencing around our pool - it is great - keeps our son and dog out but can be taken down very easily if we have a party. We actually ended up buying it on ebay and doing it ourselves (well - my husband did it). We paid about $500 for the fencing and rented a drill from home depot for the day - was pretty easy to do - just took some time. Our fence is 5 ft high and the catches are on the inside - we love it.

Hi - my little guy is about to be 9 months and is moving like crazy - we also have a pool and have been taking precautions - I haven't made a decision on which fencing option we are going to do, but we are installing chain locks on all the doors leading to the pool, and our son is in the 4th week of Infant Rescue Swimming - I would recommend this program hands down to any person with a child, much less with a pool as well - www.infantswim.com - if you want to email me directly, I can send you video of my 8 month old floating face up in the water - they teach babies that if they fall in the water, they should immediately turn to their backs to float and breath - it is truly amazing and I can't say enough about it - Our instructor is Sheri Phillips - she is in Plano and she is great. Congrats on your twins!
