Need Suggestions for Facial Creams Please

Hi. I was wondering if any of you could suggest a good facial cream that isn't too pricey. I haven't normally put creams on my face, as I have sensitive skin. I can't use the ones that have acid in them- it burns! But right now with the heat running and all this dryness, I have patches of dry skin on my face and neck, and it's not pretty! Also, I'm 35, so I'm sure the age factor is not helping me. Please let me know if you have a favorite cream that seems to work without making you break out, etc. Thanks!
R.

So What Happened?

Wow! Thanks to everyone for all the great information! I had spent long periods of time reading all the ingredients/promises on the different lotions and I was completely lost. I'm so glad I asked for recommendations. I picked up a bottle of the Neutrogena Oil Free lotion, and I've only used it twice, but it's working nicely. I don't "feel" it on my face, yet my skin feels much smoother already. I will keep everyone's suggestions in mind. Thank you for your help!

I have pretty sensitive skin that can also have a tendency to break out, and I tried erbaorganics baby lotion. It works great - not heavy and very soothing. You can get it at Target (in cosmetic section) for about $8-$9 - it's in an orange tube.

I've always had good luck w/Aveeno products. They aren't too pricey (plus there are coupons in the paper every couple of weeks), and they have a few different formulas, including a Sensitive Skin formula. When my dry skin gets super bad, I also use plain old Cortaid on the dry spots before going to bed at night.

Hi R.!
My post will be lengthy but hope that what I share will help you (and other readers) as much as it's helped me.

I picked up this book called "Beauty Secrets of the Bible" by Ginger Garrett. It's wonderful!

She give recipes in the book for the most natural and cost effective skin care available. I have always had dry skin as I'm bi-racial and have literally spent hundreds of dollars on products that haven't worked including Mary Kay & Avon, no offense intended. I experienced dramatic results within a week! I will NEVER EVER buy another commercial cosmetic product again that is how convinced and happy I am. It's been a month and a half and my skin has never felt this soft and smooth and flake free!

NOTE: Ginger offers her recipes on her website so I'm not scared to share them here publicly. www.gingergarrett.com

Step One: Wash and Exfoliate
1 c. powdered goat's milk (any powdered milk works really)
1 c. quick-cooking oats
Process in a blender or food processor until VERY fine. I actually put the oatmeal into a coffee grinder because it makes it finer. Then I mix it into the milk powder.
*If you have dry skin like I do...add 1/2 to 1 c. ground flaxseed to the mixture. I buy a big bag of whole seed from the bulk bin at Whole Foods...very cheaply too I must say. Then I grind them in the coffee grinder and stir into the powder.

To wash, simply sprinkle a quarter size amount into you hand, mix into a paste with warm water, massage onto face, and rinse. Keep face damp for the next step.

Step 2: Nourish and Plump
Apply 1-2 drops honey to wet fingertips and massage onto wet face. Do not rinse. You can pat dry if needed. Amazingly enough...This works WONDERS! and no.. no stickiness either.

Step 3: Moisturize and Protectt
Put a few drops of extra-virgin organic olive oil onto your hand...rub your hands together and then pat the oil onto your face. I rub it into my face 'cuz I love the moisture. This is good for your hands too.

That's it.

It takes so little ingredients that I am anticipating the extra money I'll save in contrast to spending $30 a bottle on this, $20 a bottle on that.

Ginger has a few more wonderful recipes & tips in the book so if you want them....buy it. It's worth its weight in gold.

P.S. I'm editing this message to add another tip.
Feel like splurging on some 'mommy, quiet, me time'? Then take the wash mixture and make yourself a milky, creamy, hot bath. It's LOVELY! and my skin loves it too.
Oh, and I simply must add that I do not miss the pain of accidentally getting soap into my eyes or mouth. Rather, I intentionally sometimes lick my lips after the honey...yummy!

I had to go to a dermatologist because I had such dry skin and I am 50 yrs. old. He said I had allergies. But I was watching Oprah and she had Jaqueline Smith from Charlies Angels on and she suggested Albolene skin cleanser instead of soap since it dries your skin. I have been using it and the dryness has actually improved 80%. I never use soap on my face now. I hope this helps. It did for me. I purchased it at Walgreens...B.

I love Burt's Bees face creams. They're all-natural, so no nasty chemicals (which may be great for you since you have sensitive skin). I've tried several different types and they all have worked well and I've never had any breakouts. They're priced around $7. I get mine at our local co-op/health food store, but I've also seen Burt's Bees products at Target.

I use Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin. It feels great on my skin, and it's not too heavy under make-up. Best of all, it's available anywhere (Target, drugstores, etc.) and it's less than $10/bottle. Here is a link to the Neutrogena site so you know what to look for at the store.

I use plain old Oil of Olay--cheap yet moisurizing. I think they make a fragrance-free kind. Otherwise, you may want to go to a health-food store (Nature's Bin, etc) and see what they have--Alba and Burt's Bees are good brands.

I know how you feel about having sensitive skin. I felt the same way. What I found to be my absolute favorite is Daytime Protective Emulsion from the Sense skin care line. What you'll love about it is that it's the first of it's kind to be a patented self-preserving line that has taken out all of the "Parabens" which are preservatives that can make sensitive skin much more sensitive, and added healthy ingredients such as nutrients and antioxidants.
Keep in mind though, your skin is a direct reflection on what is going on inside your body...

Hope that helps!

I am a huge fan of the Sephora shop at Franklin Park mall. The salespeople are very friendly and helpful. If you tell them your needs they will really try to find the perfect product for your skin. The best part is you can take home samples of anything in the store for free. (I swear I don't work there!)The products can be pricey but if you tell the salesperson your price range, they usually work with you. Plus if your skin is really sensitive, it would probably be worth it to spend a little more (and use a little less) since most over-the-counter skin care products are loaded with water or alcohol.

I have always used Oil of Olay.(for about 19 years) It is the only moisturizer that doesn't make me oily and leave me with dry patches. I use the regular formula even though I have sensitive skin. (but they do make a sensitive skin formula.)
Compared to department store moisturizers it's very inexpensive(I think the bigger size bottle is $8 or $9)My old boss uses the same thing, in a quiet moment while chatting, we discussed how fabulous it had been for both of us!!!

My kids get that patchy dry skin in the winter. Their pediatrician recommended Aveeno Baby. It works well without irritating their sensitive skin. I know they make products for adults too. They are very gentle (especially the baby versions) and are supposed to be very natural. They may even have a cream especially for faces in the adult line.

They are department store quality and drug store prices. They also, have over 400 other consumable products that are non-toxic (so safer for you, your family and the children you watch), they work better and are less expensive than traditional store bought brands.

The best facial skin care system is Mary Kay. The Timewise system is just right for a mom who is experiencing what you and who has to be on the go with 3 kids. As far as price goes, it depends on what you mean by pricey. If you go to department stores to buy your skin care, then Mary Kay will seem like a great price, but if you shop at discount stores, it may seem to high. The basic set runs $54 for a 3 month supply and that INCLUDES foundation. You use them morning and evening and should feel an improvement the first time you use it, but over about an 8 week period you will have the smooth soft skin you love. Mary Kay has top dermatologists that develope the products and do not put fragrances in the skin care system to help stop from sensitivites. If you have a consultant that you know who is a friend or relative, call her. Ask her to give you the complimentary facial. It's free, and you are not obligated to buy. Plus Mary Kay has a 100% guarentee, so if you don't like it, or it doesn't work out, you can get a full refund, or trade for one of the other formulas. Mary Kay has 5 formulas to choose from so that any of the problems you might have with your skin, can be met. If you do not have a consultant that is a friend or family member. I can take care of you. Just write back or check out my website www.marykay.com/ksalmen.

It is not expensive and you know, I've tried all the creams in Drug Mart and Walmart, etc. The good ones ARE expensive. You have sensitive skin, so I would recommend trying SAMPLES of our face cream. I'm an OLD mom, my baby is 35. And that puts me in my mid-50's. So having the right cream on my face is just as important to me now as it was when I was younger. This cold blast would have my face look like worn out cowboy gloves...but I protect it. Please let me know if you are interested, ok? Remember, you can buy makeup anywhere, but Mary Kay is all about skin care.

Hi R.. I also am in my 30's with a 10,7,and 3 year old. I also have a 9-year-old thrown into the mix as well. Keeps life fun!

I have always struggled a little with my skin feeling red and irritated by most of the products out there. I liked Arbonne alright, but it was too pricey for me. Mary Kay didn't clean well enough and the foundation was too heavy. I was complaining to a friend a few months ago and she told me about a skin care line called Timeless that she has LOVED. She used to be a model and has only ever used the top-of-the-line products and said this is her absolute favorite and the price is about half of most of the others. I gave it a try and love it too. I was also so impressed with their health care line that I actually joined the business.

You can read about the products on my website if you're interested. It's www.marketamerica.com/rebeccahill. I use the Timeless Prescription Anti-Aging Essentials 3-Piece Kit. It's so simple, smells great, doesn't contain any soap, and I just can't say enough about it! You can find it by clicking on Anti-aging on the left side of the website. Then on the right scroll down to Face Essentials. It's $123.95 for the kit and is worth every penny! I have been using mine for almost 2 months and all the bottles still seem full. I think it will easily last 6 month to a year. And if it helps me look better and younger, I think it's well worth the investment.

I hope this helps!

First off what products are you using to wash now? You need to read your labels. Somethings give you a quick fix but then they have ingredients that are acclusive to the skin. Which put a layer on the skin and it can't breath. I have very dry skin and excema (sensitive!). So I can relate!! I have some great info but I would love to send you a sample of Arbonne Intelligence too. Email me at ____@____.com we can talk over what you are using and what products would be best for your skin. I personally just love arbonne as it is the first product I can use, is botanically based and when I heard the benefits and research WOW! I don't want to over load you so email me!
