We just moved to Manhattan Beach at the beginning of May and used Gentle Giants. They were great. Professional. They came recommended to us as well. Highly recommend them.
We are moving and need help. Please recommend any reliable movers you know in the area. Alternatively, (my husband isn't so keen on this idea) what are peoples' thoughts on renting a truck and hiring day laborers at home depot or something? Is this safe, fair, less expensive, etc?
Thank you so much for the suggestions!!!!! Clearly, we should use professional movers, and we will! My husband will be relieved.

We have used Redondo Van and Storage to move several times. They are competitively priced and did a great job!
I have used Moovers everytime we have moved. They are great. Good prices and really nice, hard workers.
Hi K., any of the movers are generally good, no matter how short or long it costs about $300 for the couple of hours it takes. I've used a couple of companys and their all the same.
good luck Deb
We are in the process of moving, too. We chose to use Diversified Movers -- Mike Campos is located in Redondo Beach. The phone numbers are -- ###-###-#### and 310- ###-###-####. Mike comes highly recommended. Friends who have used this company say they are outstanding, neat, careful and well priced. Good Luck!
Hi K., when we moved a couple of years ago we contracted a mover through ServiceMagic.com.
I can't remember the name of the moving company now, but it was the best thing I ever did! We packed everything ourselves and the movers loaded it on the truck. The best part was the ease of which they moved our big furniture. Then they drove to our new home and unloaded everything. It only took a couple of hours total! And I barely had to think or do anything.
I'd say it's definitely a better idea to hire someone that moves professionally, because it will go much more smoothly. The movers will have all the right equipment (dollies, and quilts to wrap the furniture, etc.). Also you don't have to coordinate the logistics of truck rental and getting the day laborers and trusting them with not damaging your stuff. Which you don't need with a 2-year-old.
I've used ServiceMagic also to find contractors and cleaning services, and have had a good experience every time. I also hear Angie's list is good (angieslist.com), but you have to pay to join.

Noteworthy Movers for sure! I used them years ago and recently was back in touch with the owner about helping a client of mine who was moving. Mark, the owner, told me that they don't advertise anymore -- it's all word of mouth and repeat business. I wasn't surprised to hear that. They are awesome! www.noteworthymoving.com. Tell Mark that T. recommended him and he'll take extra good care of you.
You will be taking a big risk using day laborers. Did you know that if one of them gets hurt on your job/property, that you can be sued? If money is an issue and you have to go this route, be very involved in the process and watch what's going on.
K. - I've been a Professional Organizer for 27 years and ONLY use one Moving Company - Gentle Giant. They are responsive, respectful, efficient and have handled all my local, National & Int'l. moves without a hitch. Never a problem. You're asking for problems when you getguys from Home Depot who don't know what they're doing. If you want your furniture in one piece, hire G.G.
Mention my name - M. Abrams.
