Hi. I'm 15 weeks along and have some concerns regarding my nuchal transparency test. I wonder if any mother had the same concerns and if so could share them with me. My baby's test result was quite high and the doctor is concerned. I have an appt for an amnio on Thurs. I just wanted to know if other moms have gone through this as well?

What can I do next?

Hi! I just recentley went through that testing and it came out positive screening for down syndrome and they had said an amnio would detect if the results were true or not, I went in to do the amnio and backed out only because the risk or miscarriage was higher than that of having a baby with downes.... and also the doctors can do a high detailed ultrasound for any birth defects they can see.... I guess its all upto youif you want to go through with it or not !

This brought up some curiosity not knowing what it was, as that I have never heard of this test beign performed while pregnant.. so I looked it up. This is the website I went to:
http://www.acegraphics.com.au/articles/dietsch01.html
and learned quite a few things. You are not alone, and according to this report- your worries are normal. Pray and everything should be fine. I will keep you in my thoughts! God bless ~

I would weigh the cost and the benefit of the test before taking it. I know that next pregnancy I am going to decline most if not all test, cause I am not going to terminate the pregnacny, no matter what, so why do the test? That's waht they're for, right? Unnecessary prcedures only put the baby at risk, create worry and extra stress for mommy and $ in the pocket of the medical community.
I bet you will love your baby no matter what, so reduce stress and enjoy this time in your life.

I hope this post helps E.. We went through the same thing with our second son and everything turned out FINE. It was so scary and we ended up getting the Fish test done to expedite the results for Down's Syndrome so that we didn't have to wait 2 weeks to find out. I have several friends who have gone through the same scenerio and all was well. Keep your spirits high and try not to worry -- it will all most likely be fine.

BTW: Our percentage was 1 in 39 for Downs. Scary! Connor is a healthy happy little guy (thank the lord :))

Best of luck!

I believe that I went through this with my daughter. I was 36 and pregnant with my 4th child. The downs syndrome score was well within normal, but the trisomy 18 score was on the high side of normal. My doctor suggested an amnio as well. I was concerned, to say the least. My husband and I went in for the genetic counseling--we have no history of birth defects or any major diseases in our families. I did go through with the amnio, and everything turned out normal. The procedure was less traumatic than I thought it would be. I did ask why my scores were high. The technician said the hormone levels were too low, but the size of the baby was normal--that's why I was still in the normal range. Typically babies that suffer from trisomy 18 are small--therefore the low homorone count. I was glad that I went through with the amnio just for the piece of mind that everything was ok. My healthy daughter will be one year old next month.

I know it's all so confusing and anxiety ridden. Wait for your amnio. That will be the most conclusive. Pray, and be peaceful in your pregnancy. I've had 2 amnio's.... it's not as bad as it sounds, just try to relax. You will find a lot of comfort here with all these wonderful advice. This site is great. I wish you the best, and you will be in my thoughts. Good luck and hugs!
