Need Ideas for How to Protect Teething Babies from Chewing on Their Cribs

My twin boys are 10 months old, each with 6 teeth. They are chewing on everything now. I am able to keep them from putting inappropriate and dangerous things in their mouths all day long - except for when I put them down to sleep. Their cribs are made of a lovely cherry wood and they are chewing the heck out of them. The other day, we discovered one of them had been working on eating a railing when we thought he was napping. He had a mouthful of wood and had created a rather large split-ery mess on the rail. Since then, I sanded-down the severly chewed area, and I have tried putting them to bed with chew toys, but now I'm afraid to leave them alone in their beds for fear of choking... We need to solve the problem quickly. Any ideas on how to protect teething babies from chewing on their cribs?

What can I do next?

We bought a plastic guard to go over the rail that is made for cribs. I think we bought it at Babies R us.

Try taking a washcloth (the ones for babies because they are lighter weight and small) get it wet and stick it in the freezer until frozen. Try given them to the twins before you lay them down. they will be able to cram them into the parts that really hurt and it may ease the pain before nap time. You can also use the Hyland's teething tablets and their oral teething gel. I swore by this stuff when my daughter was that age. It works in seconds and no harmful chemicals because it's all natural. It was perfect right before bed especially when she was having a really hard time with her teeth. She would zonk right out! I never had to use those plastic rail covers. Good luck!

many stores carry some plastic rails you can put over the side rails of the cribs. If you pick up a few of these, that should solve your problem.

I got fabric (with velcro) rail covers at Babies R Us and then a "breathable" bumper to go around the crib (because my kid was chewing everywhere) which I think I ordered off Ebay, but you can find in online stores. Good luck!

Just like the other mom said, they sell thick plastic sleeves to put over the rail. Babies R' Us sells them for around $10.00. I have them on my crib, you will need 2 - 1 box for each side. They do come off, but it should take them awhile to figure that out! Good Luck with the teething!
