That actually sounds like a lot of fun! I wouldn't make up a fake name or anything. Just post that you are going to have a party to celebrate the restocking of your baby pantry. Then, have all the refreshments, games, etc.
I am in charge of keeping the diapers, wipes, crib sheets etc. stocked in the nursery at our Church building. I'm going to ask the members if they can donate these items, but instead of just asking for the donations I wanted to throw a "shower" I don't really know how i should go about doing this without making it to confusing for the older folks!! Should I make up a fake baby with a catchy name or what???? thanks in advance for any ideas!!!!
Thank you everyone for you ideas!! The building is actually booked until after the new year, but one of the ladies in the Church made a very generous donation that should stock the nursery for a while. I will keep all of your ideas for next year sometime when it needs to be restocked again!! Thank you so much for all of your help!

That is such a cool idea......you could have a "fake" baby, named something like......Anymom's Baby, or something like that. Provide food, and you know they'll come!!!
Here's how one church did it....Invite the ladies of the church to an evening baby shower. Have a list of needed nursery items printed in the bulletin and on the church website. The ladies have the option to donate money instead. When the ladies arrive at the shower, have hors dourves, cake and coffee available.
Then provide entertainment. Could be baby shower games, special music, or a fashion show. This church had special music and games as its entertainment.
We did this, and someone took pictures of all the babies in the nursery, did them in B&W, and made a big sign advertising it. Then we had cake, cookies, and punch in the hall after church one day and people donated money, etc. It worked well.
I think that is a great idea. But I would just do a party more like a get together and tell the congregation that you are stocking up in the nursery so you can be a blessing to other familes that might be in need, in short supply, or just forgot to restock their bag!:) I wouldn't do a fake baby, but thats just me.
A girlfriend just hosted a shower to benefit a local women's organization. She sent out a nice invitation letter explaining that it has been on her heart to serve the organization and that she'd like to shower them with the things they need to help support women with crisis pregnancies. She listed the needed items, requested that they be brought unwrapped, and served yummy snacks and coffee.
What you are talking about is a nursery shower.
Maybe just organize a donation for your churchs changing area in a very nice way talk aout the children and how this will help....I think faking a baby is dishonest
Anothr idea is to have a christmas tree up with cute little tags that would relate to baby things such as a bottle, rattler, baby pin, etc. Each tag that is hanging have on it a item that is needed for the nursery.
Tell the church you will be the one in charge, and what your plans are for the nursery. That you hope they will come to a party but to be able to come, they need to pick a baby tag and bring that ideam to the party.
then play games, have your refrehments, and see whata will be donated to the big baby box.
Also have a big bottle in the entre of the church to take donation for those that cannot come to the party to donate money too,
Have the children do a cute play, skit or sing songs for the party or to help you to adversie the party.
Get the teens in your church to help out in ways too.
Hope it works out for you. Above all pray for this event and allow GOD to show you the way and to allow it to be blessed
I have some diapers that my son out grew that I could donate. I also have a diaper genie that I don't use. Would you be interested in it? Let me know if you would like these.
I like the idea of putting up a small Christmas tree where everyone will pass by it and decorate it with paper ornaments you made or something and on them write the different items that are needed for the nursery. Next to the tree maybe put up a sign on the wall that explains you are having a Nursery Shower and to please take on ornament and bring whatever is written on it to the party. Then of course have refreshments and snacks for everyone. Good Luck!!!
I would not make up a fake name or a baby shower !
Just put a box out & make a sign, saying donation box
for diapers/wipes etc., i am sure you will get plenty !
Good luck ~
