Hi everyone - We have an almost 8 month old daughter who has been an amazing sleeper up until now. She still takes GREAT naps but when we try to put her down at night, she has a fit! If it isn't immediate, then it is within 2 hours and it is really hard to get her to go back to bed. She has just started crawling and eating lots of solid foods, but those are the only changes we have seen. Anyone have advice for us??

What can I do next?

I also have an 8 month old who just started waking up several times at night. I'm so confused and exhausted!! I think he might be going through a little separation anxiety, but I don't know. After reading some of the other posts, maybe it's because he just learned to crawl and stand up. I just hope it passes soon.

It's actually typical for this age, between 7-9 months. It doesn't mean it lasts all three months but for my 3, there was a good month around month 7 or 8 where they slept HORRIBLY and I thought I was going to go insane. Then it got better. Then it got worse again, but not for as long. It's because they are learning new things and their minds are racing. Also, teething really kicks in and makes sleeping more difficult. By three...we seem to have much better sleeping consistently. But they go through a lot of ups and downs. It can be hard, especially at this age when they do it potentially for SO long!

I've noticed with my third, who is currently 12.5 months, that her sleeping pattern will change when she learns a new skill. I say her sleeping pattern will change; what I really mean is she is HELL to put to sleep at night & doesn't usually stay asleep. I just keep at it, try to keep my patience & in a couple of days she begins to sleep well again.

It's exhausting, isn't it!!! Chances are it is either a little seperation anxiety or learning the new skills, but if it continues more than a month or two, you may want to check with your peditrician. It could be acid reflux. My now 5 year old had been sleeping just fine but around 6 months stopped, waking up every 2 hours crying. After several months of it we started him on acid reflux medication and within a few weeks he was just fine and sleeping much better. Now he has trouble every now and then but is old enough to let us know that his stomach is the problem.

She might be teathing, all 3 of my kids slept through the night early and did real well until teething. When the tooth is about to come through we have issues. She is about the right age to start getting teeth so look for that, when she is not hurthing she will go back to sleeping solid. Good luck

Depending on how long those "great" naps are it is possible she just isn't
Sleepy when you put her down for the evening. You might try cutting
her nap time down by 30 minuted and see if that helps. If it helps just a bit,
then you might try 45 minutes..good luck!
