My 2 1/2 year old boy decided that his father's freshly laundered pants would be a lovely canvas! What would be the best way to get rid of the blue and red crayon he used to color them? I have Zout, Oxyclean, Spray and Wash and Shout on hand here at the house. It is so nasty out that I would not be able to leave to go get anything.
TIA!!!

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all your input. The Zout actually took the crayon right off with a little help from my fingernail. I appreciate everyone's response!

Here is what the Crayola Company recommends: Place the stained surface down on a pad of paper towels, spray with WD-40, and let stand for a few minutes. Turn the fabric over and spray the other side. Apply liquid dishwashing detergent and work into the stained area. Replace towels as they absorb the stain. Wash in hot water with a laundry detergent and bleach for about 12 minutes (use "heavy soiled" setting if there is no minute timer on your machine), and rinse in warm water.

I would try to do a heat transfer. This is one of the processes we do to carpets when they have candle wax, so I'm assuming this might work the same way. Take a damp, white, terri cloth towel and a warm iron. Place the towel on the crayon marks and over the towel apply the iron with a little pressure. Make sure to not get to aggresive with it and create burn marks. Be patient with it. Again, never tried this on clothes, but it could work.

try ironing it out. put a cotton cloth that you don't care about and put it on the crayon stain, and apply the iron to the cloth, so that the wax is transfered to the cloth.

Check out Martha Stewart's website, I've seen stuff posted by her for all types of stains and how to treat them. Remember crayon is wax as well as dye based. The Crayola may have a website you could contact for help too. I would start with scraping off the wax with a dull butter knife.

And from the Crayola website:
How to remove Crayons (Regular) from fabrics-fresh stains/heat-set stains(melted):

Cleaning Materials
Laundry detergent
Liquid dishwashing detergent
WD-40® (car part lubricant)
Bleach for colored clothing (Clorox 2® or Biz®)
Paper towels
Amodex® ink & stain remover

Stain Removal Tips
Procedure using WD40:

Place the stained surface down on pad of paper towels, spray with WD-40, let stand a few minutes, turn fabric over and spray the other side. Apply liquid dishwashing detergent and work into the stained area, replacing towelling as it absorbs the stain. Wash in hot water with laundry detergent and bleach for about 12 minutes (use heavy soiled setting if there is no minute timer on your machine) and rinse in warm water.

Special Note:Heat-Set Stains-Clean the drum of your dryer to remove any remaining wax residue. Spray a soft cloth with WD-40, and wipe the drum. Clean the WD-40 residue from the drum by washing with liquid dish soap and water. Run a load of dry rags through a drying cycle to ensure that your drum is clean.

(Optional)-Amodex® ink & stain remover

PROCEDURE: Use on fabric according to directions on container.

Purchase Amodex by calling 800-624-7367 or visit www.fahrneyspens.com.

Before attempting the stain removal method, test each procedure on an inconspicuous area of the material or surface to be cleaned. Please be advised these stain removal methods involve hazardous products and are intended only for adult use. Crayola does not recommend children attempt these procedures.

In many procedures, specific brands of products are recommended. These are brands that performed most effectively in our laboratory. Always check individual containers for recommended procedures and warnings. Competitive brand products may work equally well.

Hope that helps...
