Hello, my 2 year old left a crayon on her car seat without me noticing! Next time I went to seat her on it, there it was!! A big old crayon melted into the fabric. I don't know what to do to get it out. Any suggestions??? Everytime the car gets hot it kind of starts melting again, so it stains her clothes. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone for all the great advice. I guess I forgot to mention I don't live in the States, so some of the products you mentioned are not available to me. But I tried the paper towel and iron trick and it worked really great. IT did leave the color stain, but i scrubbed it with some stain remover and it came off, almost all of it anyway... can't even tell anymore. So really, thank you so much!!!

When the car heats up you can use cloth diapers or old towels to take up the crayon wax. Just press the towel or what ever into the crayon and bring the wax up. You might just put an old towel on the seat for awhile until the stain comes off. G.

the crayola hotline has a formual for getting melted crayon out of fabric. It is a hassle but it works. WD 40 was involved. We used it when some nice clothes were ruined by a crayon being left in a jeans pocket and run through the dryer. I'd buy a new car seat cover, if possible (maybe from a recycle kids store)

Dear A.,
Take a brown paper bag, like the ones from the grocery store or a brown lunch bag and place it on top of the crayon stain, then get a warm to hot iron and iron over the brown paper bag, the stain will melt on to the bag and viola it`s gone, do it several times, moving the paper to a clean spot everytime.

You iron over a papertowel and it comes off I believe you should look that up online to be sure!! works for candle wax on furniture or floor so I'm sure that'd work for a carseat mess.

Hi A..
Use a towel that you can throw away. Place the towel over the crayon and start ironing. The melted crayon will be lifted into the towel. Once most of it has come off of the carseat, you can scrub the rest of the seatcover with Dawn (Dawn is THE best degreaser) and hot water. If your seat cover is removable then just throw it into the washer in cold water and Tide. Then just hang the seat cover to dry.

I've heard that you should use a rag and an iron. Place the rag over the crayon, then use the iron to heat the rag. Do this over and over until no more of the crayon comes up onto the rag. I've never done this, but it works with candle wax in the carpet as well.
Hope that helps.

WD-40 works great! Spray it on and scrub it off. It leaves a bit of an oil spot after ward, but that's easy enough to get off with some soapy water afterward. WD-40 works great on wax.
What you will need is a warm iron and a terry cloth towel or parchment paper. Then heat the iron to warm (not too hot or you will burn your fabric). Just enough to melt the crayon. Place the terry towel over the crayon and then the warm iron. As the crayon melts, the towel will absorb the wax. Continue to manipulate the towel to absorb the wax as the crayon melts. It will take a while, but it works. I had to use this to get an entire box of hair removal wax that my daughter "accidentally" left.

All you need is a hot iron and a lot of paper towels to clean it up. Use a dry iron (no steam) and cover the crayon with paper towel. Gently press iron(do not move iron around, just put down on spot)remove paper towel and repeat process until all the crayon is removed. I've had this happen with a lot. It works on candle wax as well. As for the stain if it's a colored crayon, sometimes rubbing alchohol works or try spray and wash and rinse

if you can remove the seat cover take it out and take some paper towels and your iron to it... just keep switching out the paper towels//// if there is no seat cover then bring it in the house and use a curling iron or some form of heat to melt it into the paper towels... I spilled a candle on my carpet once and this worked really well...it is a bit tedious, but it works!!! good luck!

Take an old cloth and place it on the area where the crayon is, then turn the car seat cover over and iron on the backside of the stain. The wax will melt onto the old cloth and out of the car seat cover.Oh and to keep he wax from melting through to the iron use a dryer sheet in between the iron and the car seat cover.

If you are able to get the seat cover off the car seat try turning it over and putting a rag down then put some wax paper over the rag then the seat cover on top, then iron the crayon into the wax paper it works for candle wax so it should work for crayons you may have to change out the wax paper often untill its all ironed out good luck! :)

I am assuming the car seat cover is some type of fabric.
While the wax is cold and solid use a butter knive to scrape off as much as you can. Using a WARM iron, layer several paper towels over the remaining crayon and "iron"
over the waxy spot. As the crayon melts it will be absorbed into the paper towel. Keep moving the iron and
turning to a clean spot on the paper towel until you get as much out as possible. If there is a residue left and the cover is removable/washable pre-treat with something like "Dawn" that works on oily stains and wash. If the cover isn't removable or washable try using "Hot Shot" spray on carpet & upholstery cleaner (follow directions on the can).

So one time in college I flipped hot candle wax on me on accident and got it all over my favorite sweater. My friend's mom told me that her mom use to take a old damp towel, place it over the wax and iron the towel it will pull the wax out onto the towel. I had to do it a couple of times but it totally worked. The candle was dark blue and the sweater was cream colored and you couldn't even see it. I would assume it would work with crayon as well since crayons are made of wax but you probably want to test it first. But be sure your carseat is a fabric cover and not vinyl because vinyl will melt - D.

Hello, Get out your iron and paper towels, you may need a long extention cord to plug it in. put a couple layers of paper towels over crayon and iron til crayon melts and is soaked into paper towels. It may take several times with clean towels til it gets it all. It will leave a stain from the color then you can work on that with stain remover.

I don't know if it works or not, but I just bought some stuff from the Kirby vacuum store in Plano (at Custer and W. Parker) that is supposed to be amazing on crayon. I haven't tried it yet, but it if it's as good as all the other Kirby stuff I've used it would be worth a shot. Good luck!

My friend spilled candle wax on the carpet. She took a thin towel (that she didn't want anymore) and put it on top of the spill. Then she took her iron and heated it up, placed it on top of the towel to heat the wax. The wax got gooey and stuck to the towel, not the carpet. You might try this- since crayons are made of wax.

I know with some carseat models it can be a little difficult, but I would suggest removing the cover & putting it in the freezer until the crayon hardens, then scrape off what you can. Then douse it really good with a liquid stain remover like Shout Advanced action gel and wash it according to the manufacturers suggestion.
Good luck with all!

Found this at the Mrs. Clean website. Hope it helps you out.
"To get rid of crayon from your carpeting or from upholstery, use this method.
Use a dull knife to scrape any of the debris off.
Apply WD 40 to the stain and let it stand for five or so minutes.
Use a stiff bristle brush to loosen the crayon.
Wipe off with a clean terry cloth.
Reapply as necessary.
Apply liquid dishwashing detergent to the area with the stain.
Work into the stain.
Wipe clean with clean terry cloth.
Rinse with a damp sponge.
Allow to air dry fully.
To remove fresh or even melted crayons from fabrics such as clothing, you will want to follow this method.
Turn the stain upside down on top of white paper towels.
Spray the back of the stain with WD-40 and allow it to sit for five or so minutes.
Next, use your liquid dish washing detergent. Apply onto the crayon stain back and work into the stain.
Launder in hot water, as hot as the fabric will allow.
You can also add color safe bleach to the washing if this is allowed according to the manufacturer’s directions.
Rinse well and air dry."

This works with carpet so it may be worth a try. Takea sheet of wax paper and your iron lay the paper over it and gentle use the iron pat the paper with a dish towel and it should bring it up. This may take a couple of tries but it generally works it also works for wax candels on carpet.

Have you tried GooGone? I don't know if it will be any good on fabric. If not, maybe you could heat the crayon up with a blow drier, and lift up as much as possible while it is soft.

I had crayolas in the dryer once and it was a shocking mess!! I thought I was going to have to throw away the entire load. I researched and found out about WD-40 and used it on all the clothes. I scrubbed it a lot and allmost all came out. Then soaked it in detergent and water. After, I washed it in the washing machine and put baking soda in it. Amazingly everything came clean! Try that. It's the best advice I can give and I don't know of anything else that works on crayons. Good luck!

My son once spilt a melted red candle on the carpet. I used paper towels and an iron. I put the paper towel over the candle wax and ironed over it. The paper towel absorbed the candle wax. It took quite a few paper towels, but the wax came right up so I would think a crayon would work the same way. Good luck!

Try taking an old cleaning rag or towel and placing it over the crayon. Then use a hot iron on top of that. The heat will melt the crayon and the towel will soak up the mess. You may have to do this a few times and the color my not completely come out, but enough so it will not get on clothes anymore. You could also try it with just plain paper towels.

Get a brown paper bag and iron it over the spot with the crayon, the wax will lift and get trapped in the paper and you can throw it away. Depending on how much crayon is in the seat, it may take a few times with new paper to get it all out.

You should be able to reheat the stain with an iron place a sheet of news print between the crayon and iron. It is the same way a batik is made. The paper is used to soak up the crayon and the heat loosens the wax. Good Luck
